Witnesses say there was a standoff between DHS/ICE agents and roofers repairing hurricane damage at The Grand Marlin on Pensacola Beach, Oct. 13, 2026. They say the agents wanted several men to come down and show them their papers. The men sent their papers down but refused to leave the roof until agents left.

Holy shit they went full Nazi “show me your papers”. What the fuck.

u/kytulu 3d ago

Legal immigrants and permanent residents, also known as green card holders, are required by law to carry their papers with them and present them for inspection when required by law enforcement.

My wife was a green card holder for 12 years before she got her citizenship. It's spelled out pretty clearly in all the paperwork she received.

u/Key_Acanthisitta2218 3d ago

It should not take as long as it does to become a citizen!and ICE in its haste has targeted citizens

6

u/SunshineSt8Reprobate 3d ago

Exactly, they're not acting in good faith.

2

u/DarthCheez 2d ago

How long should it take? For some people citizenship is instant. For most its 3 to 5yrs after getting a green card. That's pretty reasonable for assimilation into the local culture language etc.

1

u/Key_Acanthisitta2218 1d ago

Yes , but most have a job , so fitting in a citizen ship class could be a challenge , I think a year would be enough !

1

u/DarthCheez 1d ago

A year is crazy fast. Faster than most developed nations. Also not sure what you mean by most have a job as most of what I have seen are marriage or family based green cards that move in to citizenship.

6

u/IncomingAxofKindness 3d ago

What if you're a citizen standing next to a green card holder. Are you both required to present papers?

5

u/BikerJedi 3d ago

Did you just wake up from a coma?

2

u/Segments_of_Reality 2d ago

The did go full Nazi… but they also have been going full Nazi, too (RIP Mitch)

Sending ICE agents but refusing to send actual aid or even declare it an emergency, oh joy!

Literally fucking wal mart and random bbq places doing more to help than the dickheads these gumps voted for.

5

u/Justlookig1294 3d ago

Fortunately we do have a great response from local emergency management since this isn’t completely uncommon for us. Helene and Milton really taught us what gaps we have and how little we can trust the federal government for assistance.

10

u/annuidhir 2d ago

To be fair, the federal government was a lot more trust worthy before Trump. Not completely 100% trust worthy, obviously. But more than it is now. Even Bush, in his poor handling of Katrina and other issues, provide significantly more support and was more trust worthy than what is currently happening.

1

u/Justlookig1294 2d ago

This is true. But I have lived in Florida my whole life and first response is always from local communities.

2

u/annuidhir 2d ago

As it should be. The federal government should empower local response, and provide any backup support if needed.

2

u/Justlookig1294 2d ago

I absolutely agree. And we should be relying on our communities first. Our local government knows our infrastructure and emergency systems better than anyone.

2

u/SunshineSt8Reprobate 3d ago

Love the term "Gump"

1

u/Justlookig1294 3d ago

Only upvoted because you’re totally valid, hate the way it’s going down.

17

u/Justlookig1294 3d ago

What a horrific situation we have found ourselves in.

73

u/seanrm92 3d ago

Lol, they stayed on the roof because they know the ICE agents aren't fit enough to climb up

14

u/hauntedbeachhouse 3d ago

It’s so hot today I’m sure they’re not even fit enough to sit in a lawn chair at the bottom.

What happens to housing prices when construction workers working on houses are deported?? Trump said prices would go down???

Median age of homeowner is 59 BTW

17

u/greet_the_sun 3d ago

Don't forget that Canada is also the #1 importer of lumber and #2 importer of copper to the US that we are now having a trade war with, both pretty important raw resources for building homes.

5

u/Pheighthe 3d ago

Are you taking into account all the corporations that own homes? Cause some of those corporations are pretty new and shady.

-5

u/Interesting-Fly-6891 3d ago

Yeah. They start tanking, so no intelligent buyer will buy in there.

26

u/Thirsty_Comment88 3d ago

Fuck ICE Gestapo pieces of shit!

11

u/tomjoads 3d ago

Team roofer

5

u/Key_Acanthisitta2218 3d ago

Calling out ICE when there is an emergency is cruel , wasteful and inhumane ! See ya at the polls

2

u/Luasol51 2d ago

Good for the roofers!!

3

u/Interesting-Fly-6891 3d ago

Definitely. New home sales turn homes over as “sold” and let the “home warranty” kick in and finish the build. Actual owners spend up to a year making the build more livable. As a realtor, I meet with people who cannot sell their “new build” because the builder is selling next phase with all sorts of “incentives” the now owner cannot compete with. It’s heartbreaking to see someone ready to sell but the neighborhood will not support it.

1

u/TheRealFiremonkey 2d ago

So what actually happened? Says they sent their papers down - did the jackboots inspect the papers and leave or arbitrarily insist on flexing they dick to see who’s is bigger?

-8

u/VanillaLlfe 3d ago

Great grouper at the Grand Marlin

-64

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

I get where they are coming from, but they are just making the situation worse by not coming down.

38

u/NoBSforGma 3d ago

I'm not sure how it could be "worse" than getting thrown to the ground, handcuffed, detained - only to find out some time later, the person was NOT an "illegal." And the people who did the illegal detention would not help his family or do anything to see him properly released.

What "worse" are you talking about?

7

u/Radmode7 3d ago

Assuming they survive the experience, even.

-45

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

Extra charges for not coming down.

23

u/hunterdavid372 3d ago

What would the charges be? They supplied the papers, that is all they are required to supply to an immigration officer who are not law enforcement officials.

3

u/NoBSforGma 3d ago

Something like "refusing a lawful order" is probably a misdemeanor. And if the paperwork is OK, then the Feds need to just go on their way and harass and kidnap someone else.

14

u/MusicianNo2699 3d ago

Immigration officials don't have the ability to give lawful orders like this. It may help to read up on the law a little bit.

-27

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

Getting a misdemeanor over this definitely qualifies as making the situation worse, which is what I said.

A misdemeanor sucks for someone with no record. Many employers reject anyone with any kind of criminal record.

7

u/Zombie_Fuel 3d ago

And a whole fuck-ton of employers don't. 🤷🏻‍♀️

0

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

Yeh but why needlessly reduce your pool of possible employment opportunities?

7

u/Zombie_Fuel 3d ago

Do you know anything about the conditions that ICE is detaining these people in? Between the chance of getting a misdemeanor, and the chance of being locked up indefinitely in a two-man cell with 7 other people and possibly being sent to a country my family isn't even from, I'd take the misdemeanor. Shit, I already have a misdemeanor on my record, and I've never had a problem getting a decent job.

-2

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

Agreed ICE is operating like they are the CIA during 9/11, but even the CIA wasn't just execiuting people in broad daylight in the streets. I just think that refusing to come off the roof just makes a bad situation worse. It allows them to actually cite some legitimate potential charges.

3

u/lohonomo 3d ago

But ice IS executing people in broad daylight

1

u/lohonomo 3d ago

Because they weighed the risks and benefits and chose what they believed was the lesser of two evils.

6

u/lohonomo 3d ago

No they fucking dont and you know it

1

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

I have no doubt that I would be out of a job if I got a misdemeanor.

4

u/lohonomo 3d ago

Sucks to be you then

5

u/Bart_Yellowbeard 3d ago

Not roofers, hell it's practically a prerequisite. Fuck ICE.

14

u/MusicianNo2699 3d ago

Why? They aren't required to speak to them or present anything to them, by both state and federal law.

-11

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

They could get a resisting a lawful order, obstruction of justice, and resisting detention. Sure maybe these chargee can be argued in court, but is going to court with a public defender to fight these charges the wise decision?

13

u/MusicianNo2699 3d ago

No thry really can't. The law is pretty clear when federal immigration agents can and can't ask for actual paperwork. Good examlle, I got pulled over at checkpoint three hundred miles from the texas, mexico border. They asked for identification, and I asked for a reason for the stop. They didn't have any and said they didn't need one. I laughed at him and drove off. There are hundreds of videos online you can watch of this exact same thing happening across america. Or you can call any attorney who will tell you the exact same thing. Immigration officers cannot just go anywhere in the united states and demand to see paperwork unless they have probable cause to conduct that stop. This is why they try it, and when people say no, they walk away in shame.

1

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

None citizens do not have the same rights as citizens. For people here on a green card they do have to present it on request. Probable cause is not required for ICE to request it.

11

u/lohonomo 3d ago

Yes they do have the same rights as citizens. Do you genuinely not know that?

2

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1357

They can demand a green card and it has to be presented. Probable cause not required.

7

u/lohonomo 3d ago

The linked article states that the roofers provided the necessary documents when requested. What law did they violate by not coming down off the roof, considering they met the requirements to show their papers?

-1

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

Failure to follow lawful order, obstruction of justice, resisting detention. The charges can absolutely be fought, but I don't think that is the wise course of action for a green card holder on a roofer salary.

5

u/lohonomo 3d ago

Real talk, who cares what you think?

2

u/MusicianNo2699 3d ago

They can ask for anything including a pet turtle and a YoYo, but in the United States of America, and its territories, you can tell them to piss off, short of probable cause. They dont get to guess that a person may or may not be a citizen. Again, this isnt hard to look up in 13.3 seconds. Or ask an attorney. Or, continue to be ignorant and wrong...

5

u/lohonomo 3d ago

Do you think a misdemeanor is worse than deportation?

0

u/DopamineSavant 3d ago

No but this implies that staying up there is going to prevent deportation.

6

u/lohonomo 3d ago

It probably will lol

2

u/lohonomo 3d ago

What are the other risks? If they did come down to talk to ice, even though they'd already met the requirements of handing over their papers, what are the potential ramifications? List them.

3

u/lohonomo 3d ago

You don't get where they're coming from.
