My dad has one dead, black tooth. Has my whole life. I thought it was a rock when I was a kid. I asked him why he didn’t get it taken out and he shrugged and said it never caused him pain.
Edit: as I already said below, my dad does not care what I think. Maybe because he’s a boomer. Maybe because he’s very traditionally Sicilian and they don’t value the opinions of their daughters. Maybe it’s because I look like my mom and he hates me for it. But, I have told him all the below and whatever else. He doesn’t care. He’s 73 almost and has lung cancer so I guess it’s the cigs that will kill him not his tooth.

I don’t believe that’s true. I don’t think they have established a causal link, so a common confounder, such as not giving a shit about your health, explains both poor dental hygiene and cardiovascular problems rather than poor hygiene causing cardio issues.
