Tommen’s Future Spoiler

{SPOILER} Had Tommen not offed himself.. who would have been next in line to marry him and become queen after Margaery? On my third rewatch and there aren’t any obvious choices I can think of. Samwell’s sister, maybe?

She would have confined her son to indefinite bed rest due to illness brought upon by grief. And while he was "recovering" she would be regent.

Cersei is incapable of planning in the long term, once she is comfortable in the present. She'll do anything she can to maintain her power, even if doing so destroys her future. If tommen somehow survived, he would spend thecrest of his life as her prisoner. A comfortable one. But still a prisoner.

Daenerys. Unify the competing claims for the crown and avert the war.

Not a chance. A Tarly is not going to be Queen. I think it would end up as someone not revealed as on the board, yet must exist- quite possibly a Hightower.

Randyll Tarly is one of the most respected, militarily accomplished and competent lords of reach and Horn Hill isn’t poor by any means.

I don’t think it’s explicitly established in the show canon but there have been Westerling, Costayne, Penrose, Dayne and Blackwood queens. And in show canon vis a vis AKOTK heirs married to a Dondarrion and a houseless (atleast that we know of) Tyroshi. Actually now that i’m writing this i don’t know if Jena is named in AKOTK but im gonna keep this here.

None of those houses are particularly powerful or wealthy, none obviously moreso than House Tarly atleast to my knowledge.

If Cersei has plans of staying allied with the reach after the Tyrell’s are blown up which she manages to do somehow because Randyll and Dickson still die for her, a Tarly girl is a perfectly acceptable match. Now there may be better options but a daughter of lord hightower who idek if he’s mentioned in the show but is a recluse in the books with only one non married maiden daughter who is old and crazy is not really a better option.

It would be esp crazy since Margaery's mother was a Hightower.

Meaning the Hightowers already had a queen through one of their granddaughters until she was killed by Cersei.

I doubt they would send another to KL during this period.

Sansa or Danny wouldn't work. Yara? One of the Frey girls? Someone from Dorne?

Cersei would’ve pushed that kid out the window herself to be queen. She already accused him of betraying her.

Cersei would never harm any of her children..

Tommen loved Margaery. You don’t think blowing up the sept with her in it was harming him? What did she think the outcome of that was going to be?

Cersei struggles with empathy (to say the least) and an inflated sense of self (to say the least) to the point where I genuinely think that she had no clue that killing Margaery would hurt Tommen. He doesn't need Margaery, after all, he needs his mommy.

If she did recognize that Tommen had feelings for Margaery, again I think she would have assumed that she'd just need to comfort Tommen for a day or two after and he'd be fine, because she is his mother who knows what is best for him and thus the most important person in his life.

Him killing himself likely never occurred to her.

I think by that point she had gone so mad, & already realized that the prophecy of losing all her children was coming true, it just didn’t matter anymore.

That doesn't mean she would kill him lol
