Question How likely is my situation to get approved for bypassing a prerequisite to a class?

Hi guys,

I am a CS major graduating in Spring 2027. As part of my media thread, my plan for my final semester was to take CS 4460, which is typically offered every semester, but for some reason was not offered only last spring. I emailed the professor of this class for this semester and she mentioned it was on plan to be offered next semester, so I assumed the Spring 2026 thing was a one off.

However, I checked the course offerings and it seems that class is not being offered next semester either. The problem is that due to the lack of other media courses being offered next semester, my only option is to take CS 4455 instead. However, CS 3451 is a prerequisite for CS 4455, but I was planning to take CS 3451 next semester. Do you guys think I will be able to take this as a corequisite?

Rant Teammated copy pasted a lab report from a friend. What do I do?

*teammates (misspelled in title)

In a lab based class and I was finally done with projects for the week. Got a cryptic message from my prof saying he needs to talk with my team. I was worried it was something about ai, but no. They just copy pasted from one from their friend. I don't know what to do. I still have to write four more lab reports and I already do all the main discussion of our data by myself cause I don't trust them to. The profs said the default punishment is the assignment is just a 0 on the assignment, but he needs to mull it over to decide fair punishment. Genuinely what do I do? I do not want to be stuck with these three for the rest of the semester.

Rant Work arounds for not having a full fall break

Hey guys, I'm a transfer from an institution that doesn't bullshit thanksgiving break and gives us a full week off, and I made plans to see family I don't get to see all year for the break before realizing Georgia Tech's fall break is a nothing burger of three days. Have any of y'all been able to work with your teachers to excuse yourself from class for those two extra days without penalization? I want to make arrangements now.

Question Seeking Advice - Should I transfer elsewhere because Tech doesn't have the major I really want to study?

So, I'm currently a first-year International Affairs major at Tech. I know it's probably criminal to say this as a Tech student, but I originally really wanted to go to u(sic)ga as a history major because their program seemed right up my alley. I have loved history since I was a kid, and knowing that Tech didn't really have a true history major, I didn't even want to apply here. But as it goes, my mom made me apply "just to see", and lo and behold, I got accepted to Tech and waitlisted at u(sic)ga. (Yes, I know I'm an anomaly for having that scenario, people tell me that every day.) So I started here this past summer in the Ignite program. This fall semester, I've been taking some of the intro-level international affairs classes (specifically Intro to International Relations and Science, Tech, and International Affairs), and I honestly really don't like them one bit. The historical aspects of them are super fascinating to me, but when it comes to the modern application of international relations studies and theoretical lenses, I'm both lost and bored half to death. Not to mention the Elementary Japanese class I'm taking to satisfy the major's language requirement is just beating me into the ground.

Now before you all come for me, I do know that we technically have a History, Technology, and Society major. But honestly, that major just felt way too broad to me and very science-heavy based on what I saw. The course offerings and different specialization options just didn't really appeal to me. But I also could totally just be reading into it wrong because all I have to go off of is course offerings and descriptions, which are usually pretty vague.

To complicate things further, I really don't dislike Tech as a whole. I have a great group of friends, I'm in the marching band and I love practicing and performing, and the campus itself doesn't feel bad or wrong to me in any way. I love all the traditions and am having an amazing time just being here. I just really am not having a pleasant time with my major right now, and I keep coming back to this feeling that Tech just doesn't have anything for me.

I don't want to uproot myself since I do like it here, Tech is obviously a great school, and I also know transferring can be really disorienting, but I also don't want to get a degree in something that isn't really at all interesting to me. Should I just stick it out and see if maybe INTA gets better past the intro-level classes? Do I consider switching to HTS just to see if it's better than it looks? I just feel really stuck and kinda burnt out right now and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Hey Tech community!

My small app dev startup, Daydreams Workspace, has published our first app to the App Store. While I was at Tech, I always dreamed of doing something like this, and never thought I would get to the point of starting my own company and releasing something to the public. Now, 5 years later, here we are...it can happen!

If you are a college football fan, would love for some fellow Tech alum/students to check this out and send me any feedback you have.

Appreciate y'all checking this out!

- Erik

EDIT: I went to Tech and didn’t remember to add the link, LOL

Other College of Design laser cutter emails

I graduated back in 2021, but I still get these emails because of the terrible laser cutter system in the design building.

I know I can unsubscribe from these mass notifications, but it always makes me laugh that this is still an issue 5 years after I left.

Lol whoever you are breaking the big no-no of staying logged into the laser cutter, you bring me a little nostalgia!

Question How to get access to a patch of grass somewhere near campus

Hello, I have some outdoor research equipment that I would like to test outside and am looking for a patch of dirt ~10 ft x 10 ft somewhere on campus where I could dig a small hole in. I have been told that the landscaping people on campus are not very keen on letting people dig holes. Does anyone know if I can contact someone about using a patch of dirt/grass, or if there is somewhere I could go?

News Dr. Tim Lieuwen Named Interim President of Georgia Tech

University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Sonny Perdue today named Dr. Timothy Charles Lieuwen as interim president of the Georgia Institute of Technology, effective Nov. 1, 2026.

In June 2026, the Aspen Institute named Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera as its next president and CEO to lead one of the world’s foremost nonprofit organizations dedicated to leadership, dialogue and addressing society’s most pressing challenges. Cabrera, who has led Georgia Tech since 2019 through one of the most successful periods in its history, will leave the institution on Oct. 31.

“We’re deeply grateful to President Cabrera for his visionary leadership over the last seven years, driving historic growth in research and strengthening Georgia Tech’s reputation as a global engine of innovation,” Perdue said. “As we conduct a nationwide search for the university’s next president, we’re fortunate to have Dr. Tim Lieuwen step into this leadership role. With his deep roots as a Georgia Tech alumnus, acclaimed researcher and executive leader, he brings the experience and stability needed to keep Georgia Tech moving forward without missing a beat.”

Details regarding the nationwide search for Georgia Tech’s next permanent president were announced in July, when the Board of Regents named a 14-member presidential search committee chaired by Regent Harold Reynolds. The search is ongoing, with the committee guiding its initial stage to identify three to five unranked candidates for the Board’s consideration.

Lieuwen brings more than 25 years of service, academic leadership and higher education experience to the interim role. He currently serves as executive vice president for Research at Georgia Tech, overseeing the university’s record-breaking $1.4+ billion research enterprise, economic development initiatives and sponsored projects.

This includes leadership of the Georgia Tech Research Institute, the Enterprise Innovation Institute and 11 interdisciplinary research institutes.

A double alumnus of Georgia Tech, Lieuwen earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the institution after completing his undergraduate degree at Calvin College.

Throughout his career at Tech, he has served in various key roles, including executive director of the Strategic Energy Institute and interim chair of the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering. A Regents’ Professor and the David S. Lewis Jr. Chair in Aerospace Engineering, Lieuwen is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and an internationally recognized expert in clean energy, propulsion and national security.

“It’s an incredible honor to serve Georgia Tech as interim president during this transition,” Lieuwen said. “Georgia Tech is a special place that has shaped my own career, and I’m deeply committed to serving our students, faculty, staff and alumni. Our mission to deliver progress and service through world-class education, groundbreaking research and economic impact for Georgia has never been stronger, and I look forward to supporting our community as we build on this remarkable momentum.”

We're back from the bye. We've seen rough stretches of football. We've endured them. Coach Key brought us from a garbage situation to a breakout season last year. Now he's facing one of the toughest tests of his tenure; demonstrating that he can endure. Especially after some missteps. If he's gonna endure, it's going to depend on his ability to get the team back on track and back to showing continuous improvement.

Fight on!!!
