Help me find a new name for tpg Max! 🚌

I’ve been running my free public transport app for Geneva since 2020, offering an alternative to the official apps. I recently received a formal notice asking me to stop using "tpg" in the app’s name, so after more than six years, it’s time for a rebrand. I have 30 days to make the change. 🥲

What should I call it?

I'm thinking about keeping Max in the name, but I'm open to suggestions! Ideally, I'd like something short, memorable, and perhaps with a little Geneva / public transport flavour. (And of course, no “tpg” or look-alikes in the name.)

I'd also like to still mention in the App Store and Play Store listings that the app is for public transport in Geneva, without including tpg in the actual app name.

A few examples of what i had in mind:

• Max - Geneva Public Transport
• Max - Geneva Transit
• Max - Bus & Tram Schedules

What would you call it? Serious suggestions, terrible puns, and completely out-of-the-box ideas are all welcome. Just shoot!

I tried it but I'm not sure I like it, it is a bit too long. It fits only by removing the spaces.

Oh my god this rocks! I use your app daily now and it is soooo good! Thank you so much, whatever you'll name it be sure we will all keep using it!

I admit the name is quirky and long, but really special and unique to Geneva, also conveying the idea that after all the shitty bus apps there is a least on light at the end of the tunnel, yours!

Thank you again for making all our lives easier, I use it minimum 5 times ans day and sometimes even more!

Me too, this app is reallyyy making daily life and use of the tpg network so much easier and breezy. I bet they are just jealous they can't do anything this simple and efficient!

I like the second option, thus it doesn’t resemble anything TPG in English or French (lest they chase you for using English translation of their brand). The third option is a bit meh.

I like "Max - Geneva Public Transport" as it contains the acronym GPT, which is TPG reversed.

In any case, kudos for your app!

Many years ago calling it "gpt" instead of "tpg" would have been a funny reference to a joke that kids from Geneva used to make (because it sounds like "I farted" in French). Sadly, nowadays you'll get another very formal letter if you name your app this way...

Btw, when I built an app with a friend many years ago using the old TPG API, we also had TPG in the name and we also got a very formal and angry letter from TPG asking us to remove it instantly. I don't understand why they were so quick with us. I think the request came when we hadn't even made the app available for public download, only in beta. There's was a guy internally who really hated us for some reason. Forgot his name but I'm sure he was at the origin of this.

I personally know the developer of TPG Widget and so far he's told me that he's been going strong 10+ years without any request from TPG to remove their name from his app name ;).

Hey, TPGwidget author here! (Obviously, not a lawyer)

I actually also received a formal request from TPG to remove “TPG” from my app’s name. I tried to contact them multiple times to ask for clarification, but they never replied to me.

The app eventually died when TPG shut down the API they were providing to developers without notice. But I was never forced to change the name of my app before it died 🙃

GVA is the iata code of the airport and doesnt have anything to do with the city bus system. Plus, if the guys doing the video game GTA Geneva didn't use GVA in the name, it is most likely that the airport who owns the "brand" GVA doesnt want it to be used for other things (either that or those dudes are reaaaally bad at finding good and evident ideas)

Well, Hacon won the public tender for over 4 millions chf to do their new app (https://www.simap.ch/fr/project-detail/babb1b20-5086-4901-b244-f629630965ea). After spending that much money I'm not sure they would want to buy my app.
