Hey everybody! Randy here, the sub's resident OEM parts guy. It’s been a little while since I’ve popped by, but I’m back with some really good stuff to share.
For those who don’t know me, I’m the dude from Randy’s OEM Guitar Parts and lead guitar tech with Norlin.
Recently we refurbished a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom and actually recorded everything. We remixed 2.5 hours of work into a 19 minute video of pure Gibson related-information straight from industry insiders. Think Science Channel's How It’s Made meets VH1’s Pop-Up Video, but instead of showing a music video or building a toaster, we’re deep diving into a vintage Gibson guitar from the Norlin era.
Thanks for taking a look and I hope you enjoy our video!

Finally getting around to posting the Bigsby/Vibramate journey on my absolute favorite CS ‘68 Gold Top. Super satisfying, low hassle, highly recommend. Polish, condition, and strings along the way. I love a maintenance day.
So today marks the first day in my 30 years of life that I own a Gibson! I even talked them down to $1100flat +tax and from what I understand that’s a fantastic price for this BEAUTIFUL Gibson Midtown Standard P-90 in Pelham blue with original case! …no candy, oh well! I swear buying this guitar healed some childhood stuff in me 😂 Glad to be here y’all!

Found. Gibson Flying V.
Is this price fair to current market? What can you tell me about this model?

Has such a characteristic grain on the body. Love it, might swap p90s out with lollars or custom shop Gibson p90s.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to thank everyone for all the great recommendations. I ended up buying the Gibson Custom 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue Electric Guitar - Cherry Red, VOS. I tried the Les Paul, The 335 and the 339, but the size/weight made them uncomfortable to play. I am week 3 of rotator cuff surgery recovery on my right side (I’m right handed) and supposed to get my left done as well. I’m also 63 so, comfort does make a difference now. So I had to look at playability for my issues and not just how they look, which they were all beautiful guitars. But I did seriously look at all the recommendations and played them all at Guitar Center, but when I played this one, it felt great the minute my wife layed it on my lap😅😂. I’m still wearing a sling, but I can still strum. The weight and balance felt great, the neck fit like a glove. It was a guitargasm..
So I thank you all and I appreciate all the great feedback from the short responses to the short novel responses 😀
Have a great one everybody

Hi, I’ve recently been thinking about changing my guitar. I currently own a Les Paul, but due to issues with weight and my health, I feel I need a change. I’ve considered a Telecaster—I know I could go for an SG if I wanted a similar sound, but that’s not what I’m looking for. The question is: do you think it makes more sense to buy an American Classic and modify it to add a humbucker, or should I go for an American Professional II with the "push-push" feature? I don’t have the chance to try them out, so I’m not sure which would be better, nor do I know how much such a modification—or something similar—might cost. Best regards.

This is my prized possession, I have yet to play something that i enjoy more than this Les Paul . Ive had it since I was 15, it’s starting to show its age. This will 100p be a forever guitar.
Plus it matches the rig.

This is my first Gibson SG. I’ve played different ones over the years but never owned one. Until today. I couldn’t be more excited.

I just saw this black Les Paul with a distinctively large, flat pick guard in an episode of Modern Family. Can anyone help me identify what model it is?

I know it's a long shot but does anyone here own the Raymond Weil Freelancer Gibson chronograph watch? I enjoy watch collecting and have been trying to hunt one of these down for awhile now as they're hard to find. Would be fun to wear while playing my Black Beauty LP or SJ-200. Wondering if it's worth the chase as I haven't seen one in person.

I picked up a classic white SG earlier and missed this crack along the bottom side of the neck when looking it over. How bad is this?

This is a 1993 classic. It was gifted to my drummer’s father Eric when he was in the 360°s. They was signed and Eric got gifted multiple multiples of guitars from Gibson.
Eric gave it to my drummer for his 18th birthday.
This is the guitar we always use for rhythm tracks. We love the 500t.
It has some special serial number. I can’t remember what it means.

So I am 100% brand new to guitar, and chose the Gibson app to learn, paid the money. Fantastic. Loving it.
I got tired if terrible recordings to send to my father, so I bought an iRig USB device, an acoustic pickup, and wired it all together.
The Gibson app won’t let you screen record without some sort of interface you see, well… you can, but it won’t capture your actual playing.
The app tells you to connect this way, and the recording feature does not work at all. Tap the button all you want, there is zero recording, no response.
I should reaffirm, it works fine when you have nothing connected and are fine with it not recording your actual notes played.
Is there some sort of work around?

Should I lubricate these vintage Kluson tuners with Triflow?

I have a 79 custom with a bridge that is starting to collapse (previous owner had tail piece cranked down).
I’m trying to find a drop in Nashville style small post replacement in nickel. With notched saddles. I don’t know the threading on the post so if I could use the original posts that would be a plus.
It’s not clear that the common replacements would work without using the replacement included posts. It seems all that is generally offered is M4(?) post 2012 threading as well.
Thanks in advance

I need any fair relevant input for the selection process
1989 LP special tv yellow p100 pickups
2001 LP special cinnamon red p100 pickups
What am I looking at in terms of differences that make any difference
The neck on the 89 is slightly slimmer and interesting but not phenomenal in one way or another
The other neck is nice and it feels slightly more full
