What baked goods/pastries do you guys miss the most?
Hi guys! I am planning on starting a mini cottage bakery from my house, both vegan and gf ! I was wondering what pastries/desserts/etc. you guys miss the most? Think even packaged goods - like twinkies and pop-tarts. Really curious to see :) I want to bring back the foods you guys miss and would literally find no where else most likely, and would also sell well! My sister is gluten free and we are both vegan!
I've made pop-tarts but I gotta find a more efficient way because those would NOT be worth the labor to sell ratio đ they were delish tho! đ

Advice pls??
My friendâs doctor said she canât eat:
meat
Fish
legumes
Avocado or olive oil
She has to be dairy free, gluten free and for all intents, paleo free.
What can she eat? Iâm trying desperately to find recipes or ideas that will give her proteins and nutrients.
She likes smoothies and pastas and baked goods so if you know of anything that could work for that it would be ideal as sheâs also autistic and some of her safe foods wonât be safe anymore. She is also a beginner cook so simple is best, thank you guys!

Vegan Gluten free Chinese restaurant
I havenât had American Chinese food in such a long time. It did cost an arm and a leg but it is such a rare blessing to be able to go out to a restaurant and have a meal with friends without feeling like a burden or being left out altogether. The restaurant itself wasnât vegan but there were so many options!
Go support the beansprout if you have the ability and the means. The food is great, the staff are kind, and it brings a sense of normalcy that many take for granted.
EDIT: itâs located in Vaughan, ON

Long time vegan (>8 years) and might be going GF soon (highly suspicious endoscopy, awaiting blood test results) -- just wanted to say these chips are delicious!

Recipe recommendations for protein bars/muffins etc. with protein powder?
So I've been trying to get some more protein into my diet. Got myself vegan&gf protein powder, but tbh, I don't really like the consistency in shakes much. What are your favourite recipes for sweet or savoury muffins, bars, etc., that use protein powder?
Thanks, and have a good day :)

Iâm struggling a lot to make meals my whole family can enjoy.
I currently live in a house with my wife and both of my parents. Iâm the only who cooks. My mom and wife can cook, but they wonât.
Making meals has been such a nightmare. Iâm vegan, as is my mother. My wife is vegetarian. My mother and wife are united in their celiac disease. My dad eats anything, but heâs diabetic so I have to be mindful of that.
And all of them like different things. Itâs driving me bonkers. I donât push my diet on anyone, so I do offer dairy options for my father and wife. Gluten is out of the question: we keep an entirely gluten free household for my mother and wife.
My mother is from a Mediterranean country and loves Mediterranean food. My dad hates it, despite his own family being from a Mediterranean country as well. This is the food I grew up with, so itâs the food I know best how to make. My dad likes American-esque meals like burgers and fries. Which my wife hates. My wife is from India, but she prefers when I donât make Indian dishes. Which is incredibly annoying because a ton of Indian food is naturally gluten free and vegan (or easily veganized). She doesnât know how to cook her momâs recipes, and nothing I make passes the test.
I will eat anything at this point. If my mom werenât vegan as well, I probably would have just dropped the veganism requirement from the menu. I canât name a single meal that my whole family enjoys. Actually, yes I can. Japanese curry with breaded tofu. Thatâs it.
I really just wanted to rant. This has been so beyond difficult and Iâm burnt out trying to come up with menus only to be criticized. Itâs not like Iâm not trying! I make fresh gf bread every week, I meal plan, I make sure we have the groceries. Iâm an average cook, and I started learning when I was about 12. So I know Iâm not great, but Iâm competent enough (especially with the foods I grew up with).
And if I donât cook, everyone eats cereal for dinner or orders in and then they have the nerve to act all huffy about it. Screams into the void

Gluten Free Veg struggles
I'm Vegetarian, not Vegan... But it seems like Gluten-Free Vegetarian groups aren't a thing anywhere. Anyways, I think we can understand each other pretty well đ¤
Wherever I go, whether I'm eating out or at a friend's place, I feel so uncomfortable when I'm offered gluten-free food containing meat and have to say, "Sorry, but I'm also vegetarian"... It makes me feel like they're going to think I'm so picky!
The thing is, I never chose to be gluten-free, I chose to be vegetarian... And I have the same right to choose what I eat as non-gluten-free vegetarians/vegans do...
Also, I wouldn't like to make "exceptions" to my vegetarian diet because, unlike people who enjoy eating meat but choose to give it up for ethical or environmental reasons, I've simply NEVER liked meat or fish in the first place, both because of their textures and because they were living beings, even when I was a child.
Anybody else feel the same when eating out?

Best gluten free flour for baking?
Alriiiight let's see if someone can help me here. I'm vegetarian, my sister is vegan. I'm pretty much gluten-free too but it's more of a selective thing for me whereas for her it's essential otherwise she's in pain and a little too gassy.
She's coming to visit and I want to bake her a cake for her birthday (on the 27th on this month) but I'm a bit lost on what flour to use. Am I overcomplicating it? Most likely! But baking is also a science right, and I want to get it right the first time because time is limited and my schedule over-packed as per usual. I want to bake with a flour that's going to work for a few different recipes and something that'll work (and taste the same) for those people coming to her birthday who aren't gluten free.
Iâve tried a few gluten free flours and itâs been very hit or miss with some batches turning out great, others feeling like I made a completely different recipe without realizing it. Texture is the biggest thing (either too dense, too crumbly, or just gross). If you have a go-to gf flour that works for most baked goods please let me know. Iâm also game for any tips you have when baking gluten free.

What are your favorite Thanksgiving meals?
Trying to plan ahead for a nice feast for me and my partner to have a home Thanksgiving (I'm immunocompromised so I can't go to any functions this year due to chemo). She has a peanut allergy and no gluten of course. Thanks in advance!! đ¸đ

Kale and Zucchini Soup with Millet
Millet is the most ancient of all the ancient grains and happens to be gluten-free. This is one of the healthiest soups I've ever made because peas and beans work behind the scenes to boost protein and make things creamier and more delicious.

GF/V items Iâve tried recently and LOVED
(Iâm in the US just fyi)
Some notes:
- If youâre someone who loved McDonaldâs breakfast hashbrowns, the Roots regular potato hashbrowns are an exact dupe when air fried (and salted)! The sweet potato ones are amazing as mini latkes with the CocoJune sour cream and chives on top!
- As someone who was obsessed with Nature Valley bars prior to going GF & Vegan, I was amazed when I tried the Made Good crunchy bars- they are incredible!
- Iâm very impressed with the Silk Protein line- I thought they were have a weird protein shake/bar taste but they donât!
- The onion rings are spectacular and I canât believe theyâre accidentally vegan! I was hesitant to post them because I selfishly donât want them to go out of stock everywhere. Lmao
