Mod Announcement New policy/rule

We have decided that, effective immediately, we will no longer be allowing OnlyFans accounts or similar to post. More often than not, it is a bot or non engaging user that just wants someone to click their bio with the hopes of someone paying for their OF.

This is to protect both users and the sub. I would also say the majority of accounts in this sub that are detected to be bots end up being bots. If you have such an account and still want to post pics of your dog, you can do so from an alternate account that does not contain adult content. I would recommend reaching out to us however to prevent the new account from being flagged by our processes for “stolen content”.

Mod Announcement Resource request

We would like to expand our wiki a little to help people looking for breeders outside of the US, Canada and UK. If you know what the equivalent of the Golden Retriever Club of America/Canada, UKC, AKC or CKC or Golden specific adoption services, please share it with us.

If you have any other helpful resource that you feel may help other Golden owners whether current or prospective, please share in the comments.

Thanks

Health Advice Any ideas on if this is normal

12 week Golden retriever puppy, dewclaw pad is rather hard and dry. No signs of pain, running, eating and playing as normal. Not sure if this warrants a vet visit or if this is completely normal

New Puppy Best age to spay my female golden retriever? Best advice

Hi everyone! I have a beautiful sweet female Golden Retriever and I’m trying to figure out the best time to get her spayed.

My vet mentioned that I could either have her spayed around 6–7 months old or wait until after her first heat cycle. I’ve been reading different opinions about waiting, especially with larger breeds like Golden Retrievers, and honestly, I’m torn on what the best decision is for her long-term health.

I’d love to hear from other Golden Retriever owners! At what age did you spay your female Golden? Did you wait until after her first heat, or do it beforehand? Has anyone received different recommendations from their vet?
I just want to make the best decision for my girl! 💕🐾

Training Advice Resource guarding since 8 weeks

Post image
282 Upvotes

She was resource guarding from my cats and then I noticed today she also will do it if I put my hand towards her food (less intense than the cat but growling and snapping). Yesterday I made a mistake and left her crate open with a kong and I saw her grab and shake my cat.

I feel like I’m raising a puppy who will one day murder my cat. For anyone with guarding issues, is this valid?

First off I reached out to a board certified behaviorist at 9 weeks old about the guarding but she also had confinement anxiety. The behaviorist suspected the guarding would drop by letting her eat in peace away from her former litter. Well she’s currently knocked out in her crate but now at 15 weeks the resource guarding has been horrible.

I’ve reached out to someone local and slightly more affordable ($300 an hour WHAT) and I’m just. Lost.

Our goldens got a new baby sister, 10 week old Raven is a 2.5 pound rescue Chihuahua Yorkie mix. She is small but mighty and already bossing the big dogs around lol They love to play with her except when she messes with their tails which she apparently views as meant purely for her own enjoyment. 🐕🦮🐕‍🦺

Supplies Recommendations for best brush - back end, thick

My 14-year-old golden is in good health (all considering). However, she needs a good brushing before winter.

I have a good brush and comb for her back and sides, but the areas around her tail/rear end/upper back legs is very thick. It's not matted down, but it's hard to get a good brushing in there - and yet I can pull fluff out of the area regularly with a couple fingers.

What comb/brush would work best? I don't mind spending a few dollars, but don't want to buy a barbershop.

Cute Pics my 5 month old baby is becoming a man!!

Bailey (currently 5 months) clocked in today at a whopping 42 lbs!! it’s crazy how fast time goes cause i feel like i just got him a few weeks ago when he wasn’t even 20 lbs, but it’s actually been over 2 months with this little guy 🥹

some current milestones:
1. we start his service dog training in about a week (not full on task training or anything yet)
2. he had his first pup cup a few weeks ago and was in heaven
3. he lost 3 teeth this week (that i counted, im sure he lost more) and his man teeth are coming in nicely
4. he’s graduating from puppy class this week

i’m also looking for more fun ways to enrich him mentally!! due to my physical health, i can’t take him on walks as often as id like, but i still make sure we do lots of play, training sessions, his puppy classes and puzzles but i want to get more creative ideas so we can switch things up. specifically if you have ideas on scent work or anything else, that would be great! i’m thinking about also starting a fun agility 6 week course with him next month.

oh and also vacuum recommendations?? 👀

Training Advice We need help with our puppy

Hi everyone!

We’re raising a Golden Retriever puppy as a volunteer host family. She’s 14 weeks old and has been with us for 2.5 weeks.

We’re really struggling to get her to go outside for walks. From the very beginning, we’ve had to use treats to encourage her to move forward, literally one metre at a time, just to get her to the nearest grassy area so she can go potty.

We also regularly sit on benches or stand still for several minutes to give her time to get used to her surroundings.

She does seem to walk a little better when I’m walking with someone else. However, in the evening, when it’s dark, not even treats will convince her to move forward, and I have to carry her.

I honestly expected her to be walking along with us a bit more normally by now, after 2.5 weeks.

We haven’t really received much advice or support from the organisation we got her from, so we’re trying to figure things out ourselves.

Is this behaviour normal for a puppy of her age, or are we expecting too much too soon? Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to handle this situation?

Thanks in advance!
