Sharing Work (Rule 2/3) I made a dithering tool you might find useful!

I made this to solve some 3D printing problems that i kept running into, but it works for vectors and videos too. Thought some folks in here might appreciate it / find it helpful.

https://warlock.tech/

Why did i make it?
1. Dithering photos is impossible in slicer tools
2. I needed the print as stepped layers instead of one layer of many colors

Once I built the 3D exports the other file types were easy to support so I figured I'd offer those too.

Gallery shows just some of what it can do. If there is more interest I'd be happy to share more!

Pretty cool, thanks for sharing. I could use this in my project.

Glad it can be helpful to others. Let me know if you have questions / feedback as you use it

The stepped layers are the interesting part here. When you export an SVG, does each color stay as its own editable group, or does it come out as one flattened set of shapes? Being able to tweak those layers after export would make this really useful for print work too.

The way I’ve been handling this in tools like Illustrator is by selecting a single cell in the SVG file and then choosing Select > Same fill. This gets all the pixels of that same color and you can do what you want with them.

But maybe I could explore SVGs per color as well. Is that the right file format for the task?

Yeah, SVG is the right format for that. I wouldn't replace the combined file though. One SVG with each color grouped/labeled lets someone edit the whole piece in Illustrator. Optional one-SVG-per-color would be handy for people making separate print plates or laser layers. Select > Same Fill works, but a named group saves that cleanup every time you export.

Good to know thanks. It should be easy to wrap same colored cells in <g> tags in the svg. I’ll try that when I make an update next week

This looks interresting. What kind om dither-algorithm did you use? Is it possible to do Atkinson dithering?

Yes, i included a number of them! The images mostly show a Bayer 8x8. But if you open the studio and check out the algorithm dropdown you should see them all including Atkinson

Cool! I'll give it a try.
