Sad day for the industry. Peter David was a legend. Absolutely defined books like X factor and the Incredible Hulk. I know he’s been having health problems for a while, condolences to his loved ones and family.

This man contributed so much to comics for so many years and yet his family had to resort to a GoFundMe to aid his failing health. That is about as damning an indictment of both the comics industry and the American healthcare system as I can think of.
RIP to a goddamn legend.

Well shoot. One of my all time favorites and a nice guy. I’m glad I got to meet him once at a con and tell him what his work meant to me.

At some point in the mid 90's, after not having read a Marvel comic in more than 15 years, I tried to get back in. The X-Men books were their big sellers at the time, so I gave them a go but was never able to get more than a third of the way through any issue because it was all so convoluted that even someone well-versed in how to read superhero comics like me was just confused and bored.
Someone suggest I try a Peter David Hulk. I'd always liked but never loved the Hulk and saw that it was the middle a storyline so didn't have much hope but was immediately hooked. Great opening, characters and story clearly but unobtrusively explained for new readers like me, great pacing, the whole shebang. Other than the first time I read an Alan Moore story, I'm not sure I can recall ever being so impressed by my first exposure to a writer. PD was sort of the platonic ideal of how to write superhero comics.

My first PAD Hulk was #391 part 2 of " War & Pieces".
The story, dialogue & art had me hooked and I remained all the way to the end of his run with #467.
I got hooked on PAD's X-Factor because of that Hulk crossover. XF #87 remains one of my favorite single issues to this day.

My father collected a lot of his work, especially his Hulk runs. He and his writing will be missed.
I've been following his GoFundMe for a while. Hope he is finally at peace. My condolences to his family.

RIP. Never stop shaming Marvel for their treatment of him.
