I once saw post on the Steam Deck subreddit with someone reading an ebook on it and holding it with one hand vertically. Post was something along the lines of “wow this makes a great E-reader”
I’d argue that was worse

I used my PSP to read novels on and took it to school to get a reaction from the teachers. I was a teen who wanted yo show off some low level but quirky tech skills. I don't know what OPs excuse is.

I don't think I would call it attention seeking. They're just using like a traditional social media which, to each their own, but most people don't.

Is there any neat ways they use the two screens? Like bottom navigated page and top views or something?

It's possible to do that in this homebrew; you can read with zoom at the top while the entire page you're reading is at the bottom, and you can scroll through it, or you can read vertically.

One is a comic book. It's a medium that has existed for almost 100 years. A visual novel is an interactive digital game with sound, branching choices, and linear pacing that the "reader" doesn't get to control.
You comment is like asking what's the difference between reading a script for a the Uncharted film staring Tom Holland and asking "how is that any different than just playing Uncharted on Playstation?"

It's a homebrew called ComicBookDS; I can read it using cbr or cbz files converted to a format that DS can read using PowerShell.

I think reading is the most important thing; I'm finally getting around to reading the comics I've always wanted to but never had the opportunity to, either because they're expensive or rare.
