Question Does anyone else think city water has developed a weird taste?

My city house water and water from the downtown YMCA tastes like the smell of mold. This started a few days ago. Has anyone else noticed that their city water has an off taste recently?

Yes! That's the exact smell we're getting from the tap water! It started a couple of weeks ago for us

Hooray! Thank you for helping me feel like I’m not the only one.

I'm simultaneously glad and not glad we're not alone in this 😂

Call 336-373-CITY (2489) to let the City Services people know so they can look into it. They may have an issue they don’t know about in the treatment process.

Yes, out towards Whitsett but on Greensboro water. Tastes like lake water, I've read on other threads that it's because the water level has been so low. Hopefully the recent rain helps

That’s interesting and a plausible explanation. If the smell/taste goes away after getting this recent rainfall, then it’s possible that that was the cause

Same! I’ve asked my husband a couple times if the refrigerator water filter needs changing. I just called the city and reported mine and they said they will have a lab come out and test it.

Same!!! We had a noticed a change in our water off of battleground a couple of weeks ago! I’m glad I’m not crazy but sad everyone else is having issues

There is a definite moldy taste/smell I’ve noticed at my work downtown. I just attributed it to old lines. I don’t have the same taste/smell at home (Lindley park)

EDIT: definitely tastes like mold in Lindley park now

Call the city and ask tell them and ask them to flush the system. The city has a helpline you can call for anything that is easy to find but I do not have it memorized.

I looked it up the other day but did not have time as I was needing to get to the Amtrak station. I remember the area code and the CITY part and never remember the 373 part.

I work downtown and noticed a BIG difference in taste over the weekend from the tap. I live in Fisher Park close to downtown and the water here is fine - I think it's just downtown.

Same but I also live by deep roots but not in those apartments a couple blocks down Eugene in Fischer park. But haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary.

I’m on North Eugene in FP too (I’m the person who asked the question). At first I thought maybe something was funky with my house waterlines but then I noticed the same smell in the drinking fountain water at the Bryan YMCA

Huh, I haven’t noticed anything. But I’ll be honest I mainly drink wine when I get home so it’s not outside of the realm that I hadn’t noticed it. Also since my fridge has a filter and that’s my source of drinking water it could just go unnoticed.

Wonder what the odds of running into multiple people on Reddit who are on the same 3/4 block long stretch of street.

I was at my sister’s place today and had a bottle of her water then needed more and went to get it from the fridge door (new 8/2026) and she said bottle is better and she will not drink it. My stomach decided to unload and that never happens 2x in 2 hours. Now I am wondering if it was Greensboro h2o. Great 😌

Switch from chlorine to Chloramines happens every now and then. Prob that

In the past, we’ve gotten a notification from the city when they made that kind of change because they know it affects people who have fish tanks, for example. So I don’t think it’s due to that, but I’m going to call tomorrow.

I haven't noticed anything. I drink tap water, but I filter it through a Brita first.

I can smell the moldy smell. I have a pitcher filter too and that removes the smell/taste

I understand.

Stayed in 2 different hotels and the water tastes like mold!!! Had to turn to Reddit to see what’s going on with the tap water here. Couldn’t even refill my water bottle in the lobby water fountain it tasted so bad. Got water at a restaurant and couldn’t drink it 😂

Don’t drink the City Water it’s been contaminated for decades! Cone Mills use to dump blue dye in the water that flows to Buffalo Creek! You can smell it on Hot days just ride over to the North East Side of Greensboro!! Smells like death!!

Got a free water test from Jason at Johns plumbing.
Got a whole house filter and now I can smell it when I need to update it, or when the water filter is getting old! Have officially become a water snob

I've been in Greensboro for 3 years. I live on spring garden. It stated like shit the whole time to me.

It's always tasted like crap to me :( I used to live in Winston and it was palatable. But Greensboro water is...wow

u/Funny_Box_4142 24d ago

I'm downtown and it's always been off to me. Since moving to Greensboro I've religiously been using a filter...
