Visiting Guangzhou for a while, any local to grab a coffee or hang out?

27m from Spain visiting Guangzhou for the first time! I've been here for the last 2 weeks and I will stay a few more days.

I want to make use of my last days here to meet up with locals.

I'm also learning Chinese and I speak fluent English and Spanish/Catalan natively.

Id love to meet with someone who has at least some level of English so the communications isn't that awkward.

Thank you and see you around!

Visiting Guangzhou from Canada

Hello!

I 30M am visiting Guangzhou for the first time in a long time to both to see some family and visit the Canton Fair. My background is Chinese but being raised in Canada my Mandarin/Cantonese is extremely mid at best.

Would love to make some friends while I’m in the city and grab a drink together. Bonus points if you’re local and can help me navigate a bit of the language.

谢谢 :)

We Pleat a PERFECT Bao!!!

We had the best time making bao together 🥢 You came in not knowing how to fold one at all, and by the end, you made a perfect little bao with your own hands ✨ We also tried a mini bao experiment, tiny ones, sooooo cute, absolutely worth it! I loved every messy, floury minute of it. I’m so proud of you guys!

💛 Thanks for sharing all the laughs with me. Come back to Guangzhou anytime, the kitchen’s always open for you!

✅ Vegetarian, gluten-free, or any other dietary need? No problem at all. I’ll tailor the class to you.

Wanshengwei and surrounding areas rent price.

Looking to rent an apartment for 6months (to start), my office is in wanshengwei but I would rather not pay 4k (thats rmb) minimum for an apartment. I looked around the nearby old town which has more reasonable prices, but most of the landlords don't want to rent to foreigners as obviously I have to register my address with the police station and then the landlord has to pay more tax by doing everything by the books.

I don't mind living 15ish mins away from wanshengwei as long as there is a bus or train stop nearby, just need help finding the areas I should be looking at.

Budget is up to 3.5k rmb, 3.6 is also possible for a slight improvement. one bedroom is ok but we prefer two if possible.

thx

In Guangzhou until Oct 27 🇨🇳 | Canton Fair, local food, hidden gems & maybe a Reddit meetup?

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm visiting Guangzhou from India with my dad for the Canton Fair, and we'll be here until October 27. Currently staying around Panyu (番禺).

We're entrepreneurs exploring business opportunities, but we don't want this trip to be all work and exhibitions!

Would love some local recommendations and possibly meet a few people along the way.

- 🍜 Food: Hidden local gems, street food, affordable restaurants, great coffee, and vegetarian-friendly spots (for now).

- 🏞️ Exploring: Less touristy places, nature, scenic views, interesting neighborhoods, night markets, and experiences beyond the usual Canton Tower and Baiyun Mountain.

- 🛍️ Shopping: Local markets for clothes, electronics, furniture, gadgets, and unique finds.

- 🤝 Meetup: Thinking of organizing a casual Reddit meet-and-greet over coffee or dinner after the fair. Locals, expats, fellow travelers, and Canton Fair visitors are welcome!

- 🗣️ Local company: Would be great to connect with someone who speaks both Mandarin/Cantonese and English, enjoys exploring, and wouldn't mind showing us around. Happy to cover coffee or a meal!

We're flexible about traveling around Guangzhou and nearby places like Foshan.

Locals: what are your favorite underrated places that tourists usually miss? And would anyone be interested in a small meetup sometime before October 27?

Feel free to comment or DM. Let's explore Guangzhou! 🇨🇳

Anyone up for hanging out on Sunday Oct 18?

Anyone up for hanging out in Guangzhou tomorrow, October 18th? Let me know if you're free and feel like spending some time together! I’m not going to the Canton Fair, but I’d be happy to show you around Guangzhou and maybe try some local Cantonese food together if you’re up for it!

Canton Fair visitors — I’ve lived in Guangzhou for 20 years. Ask me anything local!

Hey everyone!
With the Canton Fair happening right now, I thought this might be a good time to introduce myself.
I’m a Guangzhou local, have lived here for around 20 years, and I’m based very close to the Canton Fair Complex in Pazhou.
I know how confusing Guangzhou can be for first-time visitors. The city has so much to offer, but a lot of useful local information isn’t easy to find in English.
Happy to share what I know or help point you in the right direction.
Here are a few things I can help with:
🍜 Food & nightlife — Authentic Cantonese food, dim sum, hotpot, local restaurants, bars, coffee shops and places worth visiting after the fair.
🌆 Exploring Guangzhou — Hidden gems, sightseeing, weekend trips, shopping areas and places beyond the usual tourist attractions.
🛍️** Shopping & local markets — Where to find clothing, shoes, watches, electronics, Chinese brands, retail stores and wholesale markets, depending on what you’re looking for.
🏭 **Factories & sourcing
— Finding relevant manufacturing areas, locating suppliers, understanding local markets and helping with Chinese-language communication or introductions where possible.
📱 Everyday life in China — WeChat, Alipay, Didi, transport, food delivery, Chinese addresses, local apps and navigating the city.
🤝 Local connections — Need to contact a store, make a restaurant reservation, communicate with a business or figure out who to speak to? I may be able to help.
I also work in tech and digital products, so I’m happy to connect with people interested in technology, AI and business opportunities in China.
I’m happy to answer quick questions here for free. For anyone needing more involved, personalized local assistance, I’m open to discussing that too, with any fees agreed in advance.
A question for everyone attending the Canton Fair:
Which phase are you attending?
Where are you visiting from?
What’s one thing you’re struggling to find or figure out in Guangzhou?
I’ll do my best to share useful local tips.
Welcome to Guangzhou! 🇨🇳 vx: SyberH. Also telegram @syberh

Canton Fair Phase 2 Meetups + Happy to check booths for anyone curious

I’m an American (23M) based in Shenzhen/HK and heading to Phase 2 of the Canton Fair, and will be in Guangzhou 24th-28th of October. Would love to meet up if anyone is around! My experience is mostly in real estate & construction but happy to connect with people from any background.

This is my 3rd fair and I have a lot of experience in the region so also happy to answer general questions about the fair, e.g., how to prep, things to do nearby, etc.

Phase 2 covers covers building/decorative materials, household goods, furniture, gifts, etc. so if you’re sourcing in any of those categories and can’t make it, I’m happy to swing by a few booths and ask questions, send over info, or whatever would be useful since I'm there anyway.

Feel free to comment or DM if you'd like to connect!
