Gaming These ai video game mash ups

I hate these stupid gimmicky ai slop video game mash ups. I genuinely do no care for them. Everyone is acting like it’s the coolest shit in the world, it’s a fucking gimmick you laugh at for 5 minutes before moving onto something with equal or less substance. It’s also more justification for ai being pushed into every little fucking thing for no reason.

That's because this is one of the greatest advances in gaming / modding scene ever.

We're able of reading the source code of games, recompile game and change stuff that's hard coded into the game and would've been impossible to ever change.

People who hate on this have no idea how valuable to gaming this actually is and how we've not even tapped it's full potential yet.

The issue is that often this recompilation stuff is straight up just...not good. I' ve lost count of how many recompiled vibe coded stuff is done that is barely better than just emulating stuff.

8

u/VolkiharVanHelsing 12d ago

It depends

Something like Sims 3 getting decompiled is a massive treasure trove, due to how it was terribly coded + 32 bit + ugly sims despite sharing the same base as TS Medieval

1

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 12d ago

It' s kinda hard to weight in because I don't know the situation for Sims enough to talk about it; I' m speaking generaly becausen nowadays saying "decompiled" means just slapping vibe coded bullshit code with thousand of mistakes that are basicaly unusuable in anything actually worthwhile. Human-made recompilation is still the way to go, wit ha possible AI assisted program to go along with it.

Otherwise you just end up with jibberish.

Compilers nuke a lot of the structure in the source code and scramble it depending on the optimization level set. There often is no single correct mapping from compiled instructions to source code so any nuance for implementation details are lost.

This means that many abstraction mechanisms present in the source can be completely lost and indistinguishable from being hard coded everywhere. This is especially true for compile time abstractions.

"often it's bad" is not really a good defense though.

For example, art is often bad, does that mean that artists no longer matter?

1

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 12d ago

No, the point is that modern decompilation stuff has become the equivalent of unusuable bullshit because, simply put, vibe-coding decompilations without someone that knows what they are actually doing is just useless and made to get a quick shot of endorphine. It is actively destroying people who are actually into doing a good job into this because people just prefer to slap AI slop code that barely works because "they did it first".

1

u/happy_vibes_only 12d ago

How is this "actively destroying people who are actually into doing a good job"?

Before AI, there were tons of devs writing shit code every single day. That did not destroy the good developers, so why should this?

Quality will always be recognized, either with or without AI. If the AI is worse, we will notice.

2

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 12d ago

Because people will only play the new decompiled AI vibe comped bullshit, and no one else will do that title because the "credits" already got stolen. Why do you guys are even talking about a topic you clearly are not interested about?

1

u/happy_vibes_only 11d ago

No one will do it because the credits got stolen?

If something sucks, someone else might try and do it better. It's always been like that both in games and in products.

1

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 11d ago

The point is that people prefer to use "good enough" instead of "actually good", and it creates issuees later down the road that makes everyone waste more time than if they actually did a good recomp.

1

u/happy_vibes_only 11d ago

It feels like you're trying hard to justify the hate here. I'm generally pretty anti-AI myself but I never understood why people were complaining about AI in software development, and I say this as a developer myself.

At the end of the day the AI is not responsible for what is being shipped, it's the owner of the product. If it sucks, they didn't refine their product enough, and were satisfied with whatever their AI pumped out. That's not a problem with the AI, but with the owner's low standards.

1

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 11d ago

The issue is thatAI allows dumb people to basicaly vandalize the enviroment that other people were working into. Before this, decompilations were made with a certain level of standards; but now with vibe coding, everyoen is just pretending to know what they are doing, releasing unusuable bullshit, and then getting their shot of endorphins before moving on to vandalize more stuff.

It' s the equivalent of being a graffiti artist and then someone sprays all over your own stuff with a dick. It feels like that.

What you say is not necesserialy untrue, but you know better than me that this is not how it works most time. The decompiled AI bs becomes the "good enough", and then nothing else gets done because people are not interested in it anymore. It fucking sucks. And the AI bros are always first in line defending this BS despite knowing 0 about how this stuff actually works.

I mean, sure, a lot of the recompilations are vibe coded, and hence likely unsustainable to maintain

But I'm pretty sure for Mario 64, its a decompliation rather than a recompilation, and also predates the AI-generated ones

For comparison, for Sonic Unleashed, that one is indeed a recompilation rather than decomplication, but a manual one which predates the surge/wave of vibe-coded ones

3

u/P1amp 12d ago

Can't you push fork the repo and keep working on it?

0

u/BigBard2 12d ago

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about if you think this isn't insanely impressive.

A few years ago I couldn't get an AI to generate super basic beginner level C code for college, the fact something to this scale can just be vibe coded is incredible

3

u/hsholmes0 12d ago

why is bro downvoted, they're right tho

6

u/Southern-Teaching-11 12d ago

Youre going to be playing games on the cloud that are ai generated mishmahses of IP owned by publishers

8

u/SleepWorth3354 12d ago

And for some reason people on Reddit think this is utopia

I can’t wait to eat my bugs and stream my games using my Amazon credits

13

u/Aandrisky 12d ago

If AI is able to brute-force reverse engineer an entire video game, then it will soon get to the point where it can brute-force through anything.

Encryption? Well that won’t take long to crack at all. I hope your bank’s software is up to date. But even then, it won’t matter.

We already know AI basically hacked the Australian government. The more that we train AI to break down entire projects down to their source code and recompile things from the ground up, the more capable it becomes of doing serious damage to things that actually matter. I don’t think people realize what this means for the long run.

7

u/Metalheadzaid 12d ago

I mean, I'd also argue that this is only a short term problem that can be resolved using new methodology that AI can't interface with. Of course...timeline of said issues is another question entirely and with how loose AI companies are and the boomer governments of the world doing fuck all to limit it, probably closer to a problem than not.

4

u/VolkiharVanHelsing 12d ago

It's moreso that decompiling is precisely the stuff that AI is very good at yet humans don't want to due to its tedium

A great engineer then can remake Sims 3 with a more "acceptable" standards

3

u/scrdest 12d ago

Out of all the possible cybersec risks to illustrate your point, you picked ENCRYPTION?

You know, the thing where the algorithms used are famously open-sourced as best practice, because obscurity is the lowest form of security and more eyes means more gaps get spotted early?

2

u/lbkthrowaway518 12d ago

Current standard encryption methods are also pretty much impossible to brute force, aren’t they? I’m no cyber security expert by any means, but my understanding is that encryption has been really strong for a while afaik

2

u/xeio87 12d ago

This is why most software development is using AI for security patching too. Red teaming is a thing.

Linux has basically seen a cavalcade of CVE fixes this year due to it, as has most software.

1

u/FuturetheGarchomp 12d ago

it did what?

2

u/mrbails123 12d ago

Well, if it's valuable to gaming... I guess I have to look the other way on the job loss, AI non-consensual porn, AI propaganda, and environmental impacts.

All of that is worth it if it means I can fight Sephiroth as Sonic the Hedgehog in Hyrule Castle.

0

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

All of these existed before AI.

3

u/mrbails123 12d ago

Oh well, by all means let's make them way more accessible and 1000x more common, lol.

You people are insane, they could put AI into a robot that kills 1000 kids and you'd say murder existed before so it's all good, lol.

As long as you can play Mario x Minecraft slop edition.

0

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

It's not this deep.

-15

u/BSF7011 12d ago

Cool, now why don't you get some effort to go along with that passion instead of having the AI do it for you

26

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

Thanks for proving my point by showing us you have no idea what you're talking about.

AI is doing the impossible here by reading the source code and applying it logically and consistently. There's a reason we haven't had mods like these until now. So please, put some effort into using that anti AI brain of yours to think for once.

-2

u/Wboy2006 12d ago

The thing is, can we justify the environmental impact and monumental amount of theft that is used for AI, just be get slightly “better” mods

Sure, it’s basically impossible for a human to make this, I can’t argue with that, but maybe it should stay that way, when the societal costs required to make this stuff are way higher than it’s worth

3

u/FoxMeadow7 12d ago

Right? The nerve of these people man…

8

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

"Slightly better", we're talking about the biggest leap in the gaming industry.

This allows us to restore and remaster games that have been lost even by the original developers. EA has lost for example the source code of some of their CnC games, now they have the opportunity to get it back again.

People love talking about preserving media but the moment AI is involved suddenly it doesn't matter.

1

u/ArgonicPeach 12d ago

I hate ai with every fiber of my being but unfortunately you are right

4

u/BSF7011 12d ago

Everything they're saying is idealistic at best

The ai isn't going to find any lost source code, just attempt to imitate what it think that code would look like

None of these videos are actually playable games either, they just look like a game you could play

Remastering games doesn't even require ai, and who the hell would want to play a remastered with ai graphics? At that point just use DLSS5, which people also don't like

5

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

Still no clue what you're talking about it seems.

I'm not saying to use AI to remaster graphics, but to decompile lost source code to use said code to make faithful remasters possible.

Please bro, you've got a fully functioning brain (hopefully), use it I beg you.

-1

u/BSF7011 12d ago

You don't know what the definition of "lost" is, do you? The ai can't find something that isn't there

3

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

Buddy are you... Are you okay?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/FearCrier 12d ago

they're not talking about remastering, they're talking about what is essentially salvaging lost media because the code can't be replicated anymore

3

u/BSF7011 12d ago

"They're not talking about remastering"

"This allows us to restore and remaster games"

Damn, not remastering huh?

1

u/serenaTcat 12d ago

reading comprehension 0.
"HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY" to get it back again
they literally never said anything about ai graphics, just about sorce code

2

u/BSF7011 12d ago

That's what a remaster is

It's the same game, just with slight improvements, it's just a modified version of the original

It doesn't even have the opportunity to get back the source code either, the other guy literally made it up

-7

u/BSF7011 12d ago

Okay but if you do even the most basic of research you'll find that these videos are purely performative and not a full product you can give to people to enjoy. It's not actually like coding Mario's moveset into Elden Ring, it's just telling the ai to simulate how it should react to Mario doing X things, which we can even see being inconsistent via the "damage values" or how when he throws the enemy off the ledge it just... reappears in the arena instead of dying from the fall like in actual Elden Ring

12

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

Shocker, new tech is still experimental and being worked with. Still doesn't change the fact it's capable of reading and merging source codes, - which at the time being is humanly impossible.

-5

u/BSF7011 12d ago

If that was REALLY the case then Margit would've died at around the 43 second mark

7

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

Thank God we've got AI. That means we won't have to rely on people like you to think in the future.

-1

u/BSF7011 12d ago

Yeah because relying on a shitty bot to think for you is so much better

Relevant Pizzacake panels for your behavior

1

u/DaughterOfBhaal 12d ago

Of course you unironically like pizza cake comics.

Good luck in life my man, you need it

0

u/BSF7011 12d ago

LMAO of course not, but the difference is that you hate her because she's against ai, I just hate her because she's obnoxious

You definitely seem like the type who would like stonetoss though!
