Gaming I hate this stupid ass knock kneed idle stance that plagues fighting games

Thumbnail
gallery
10.2k Upvotes

EDIT: for the love of god people read the last paragraph in regard to toph being part of the images. Reading comprehension is a valuable skill.

Both of the first two characters are from granblue but there are plenty of other examples.

The latter being Meg which is particularly egregious because she’s supposed to be this super strong badass shark tamer fighter.

The stance is just poor form. It’s not sturdy, irl you could be pushed over with a light push. It’d be hard to generate any power in your strikes.

On top of that the stance is just there because they are pretty girls, as far as I’m aware there is not a single male character using this dumbass idle pose. Imagine if they gave ryu the knock kneed stance for the next SF game.

My last example is toph from the avatar fighting game as a good example of a fighting stance from a female fighter. She has a low square stance that is rock solid (pun intended)

Generally, I don't like it when people impose rules on how you should enjoy something-like saying that if you didn't play the same way I did, you're a fake fan.
But it bothers me even more when those arbitrary rules are applied to a game like Minecraft—a game that actively encourages creativity and doing whatever you want-so I don't understand why anyone would get upset over something the game itself offers you.

Gaming I heavily dislike Deltarune.

Post image
3.0k Upvotes

Oh god I can hear the fans getting their torches and pitchforks, but I don’t care.

1.) The fandom is just…..I dunno how to describe it, they become a pack of savage wolves that can’t take the slightest bit of criticism and god forbid your new to the game and gender Kris off the bat (insert Ralsei crucified meme)

2.) The gameplay is subpar and enemies are repetitive. And the choices don’t really make sense to me since—at least from what I’ve heard—Toby Fox is only going to make one ending for the game which makes me wonder why the weird route exists which fans originally thought meant that Kris raped Noelle?

3.) Where the hell is Papyrus? ā€œOh he’s the roaring knightā€ no the fuck he isn’t, no where have I seen it even be confirmed he’s the roaring knight and papyrus is the best character from Undertale.

4.) The music is nowhere near as good as Undertale, I only remember like two songs and their fucking parodies ā€œPotential Manā€ and ā€œDriving in my carā€.

5.) You wanna know why Undertale is better than Deltarune? It’s because it’s finished.

6.) Players support slavery because it’s confirmed that you are inhabiting Kris against their will (joking, lol, but still you are all terrible people)

7.) Toriel didn’t call me her little pogchamp, what the hell?

8.) This game came out when I was in the seventh grade and now I’m twenty years old, what the fuck Toby? How come it’s not finished?!?!

Edit: okay, you guys said it enough. The asgore parody is a Deltarune ost parody, which means Deltarune only has ONE good song.

I hate these stupid gimmicky ai slop video game mash ups. I genuinely do no care for them. Everyone is acting like it’s the coolest shit in the world, it’s a fucking gimmick you laugh at for 5 minutes before moving onto something with equal or less substance. It’s also more justification for ai being pushed into every little fucking thing for no reason.

I do not see myself as left wing or progressive at all but these people are so fucking annoying that I almost want to. They act as if western civilisation will collapse if a female character's outfit becomes a tiny bit less revealing. Not every woman character needs to be attractive you idiots. If you want to jack off to video games then download mods, don't force your goonbait on everybody else.

These guys are just like the "SJWs" that people were making fun of back in the 2010s. Literally getting triggered by the tiniest, most inconsequential of things.

It's probably one of the most useless thing to ever do great you didn't played for a week? Awesome they don't care since y'all just came back a week later anyways and started to pre order the next game

Christ imagine if they did a strike on their jobs and decides to have a end date for no reason of course there not gonna care and not give you worker rights because you stopped being angry for a week it's performative and just doing it so you can look good

This is garbage boycott like you mean it no end dates until the company you are boycotting actually listens.

there's an on surge of mods merging multiple games into one in a mod. The mod uses Ai technology which makes this easy to do at an all time low rate. To me, unlike most with ai, it's just fun and pretty harmless overall. SomeOrdinaryGamer released a video going over it, and he managed to get the original console halo running on PC. THIS HAS HUGE ARCHIVING POTENTIAL.

Games that companies always abandon and never allow access to may actually have a chance at being played and archived. Overall, I believe this AI use is more acceptable and fun than the typical AI use, and mods like these weren't really all that common, since it took such a long time to do. If someone simply wants to have fun and release/make a mod that merges multiple games, I'd say go for it(especially those minecraft ones like in the video above).

I personally wonder can we get some old mac games like Weekend Warrior to run on windows.

SomeOrdinaryGamer talked about how AI has helped a lot in emulator spaces. Now, I haven't kept up with emulators in a long while. But if true, that's crazy and is a good thing.

I think the game mash ups are fun, but I'm even more excited for the potential for archiving.

Mutahar video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBIqutAA6nU

Minecraft/Elden Ring video: https://x.com/TobynJacobs/status/2104884843297599594

Edit: I feel I should put this video here talking about the possible bad affects of this. I don't think it will get to this level, as these sorts of things usually get predicted and almost never comes out as bad as people believe. Look at y2k, Malthusian catastrophe didn't happen when predicted(Hopefully it will never happen to the affect people believe), and countless others I'm sure. But here's the video, do I think it dooms a little too hard? Yeah, it dooms. It is a real concern though, I can almost guarantee it won't get as bad as the video makes it seem(or at least hopefully not as bad and will hopefully actually be really hard to achieve even with AI): https://youtube.com/shorts/4ZnfU3_sErw?si=3gyBMiYs029mNvfL

Edit: Is it possible for someone to do this with Palworld and Pokemon? Two amazing games but barely any overlap, so if people can make this work somehow, that'd be great.

Gaming I hate when gendered character Designs are like this

Post image
6.2k Upvotes

Like I usually choose the male protagonist in JRPGs As I am A dude But There is A Reason why its a joke that men chose the female option in video games and thats because the Male Character designs are So FUCKING BLAND and dont get me started on The Hair customisation options especially male hair choices like for example In Pokemon Sword And Shield
The Female Protagonist Has 38 hairstyle Choices
While the Male Has EIGHT ONLY 8
And In Pokemon X And Y THERE WERE ONLY FOUR And Also The Clothes Customisation Is Boring Like Its Shorts Trousers Shirts Jackets With Different Colour Variations And Maybe Like One Cool Option Like Im Happy Female Protagonist Have so Many Customisation Options but WHAT ABOUT US
Like At This Point Just Remove Gender Restrictions on Customisation and Allow Crossdressing because The Female Customisation Options Will Always Be Better
And The Hair Customisation for The Male Protagonist Is
-a Bowlcut
-One That Looks Like You work In a 9-5 Office Job
-A Cut That Looks Like The One Your Mom Makes You Do When you go to a fancy event
-One With A Terrible Fade
-The Naruto Cut In Boruto

Like the Only redeeming Quality is that the hats are usually cool so i can cover up the Godawful Hairstyle Choices

Gaming I genuinely hate what game reviews have become

Thumbnail

5.5k Upvotes

This could honestly also be said for movie critics, but I absolutely LOATHE the current state of game reviews. The entire point of a review is to have someone judge a game without bias and give their opinion on how well the Game achieves what it sought out to do. id even say a reviewer Doesn’t need to have beaten the game, so long as they far enough in to understand it’s fundamental gameplay loop

so now not only can reviews be paid off to be higher, defeating the purpose of an unbiased review, but we Constantly are shown examples of these reviewers either being so ass that they can’t get far enough to judge the game properly, or reviews that are so needlessly nitpicky about things the game isn’t trying to do. There’s genuinely no reason to take them seriously anymore.

Edit: unbiased was the wrong word for this, I meant an honest review

Gaming I hate how quickly AI is defining the future of game development

Thumbnail

3.0k Upvotes

Was really looking forward to Drunken Goddess Reflux specifically but now it seems like we won't even get an inkling of content to look forward to until they decide to shadowdrop the full game.

People make me sick, we can't have anything nice in this world anymore. This is like that time travel idea everyone has, the one where someone wants to go back in time and pitch a popular idea that exists today first so they can take the credit and riches it eventually earns, BUT WITHOUT THE TIME MACHINE AND IT'S HAPPENING NOW.

As an aspiring game developer myself, this terrifies me. I've had ideas of doing things the Deltarune way where I could have things released in chapters, and others like releasing the first part as a pitch and then perhaps doing a Kickstarter to help expedite development (of course following through with the game regardless of its success, it would just grant the opportunity to really focus on things without the need to worry for other obligations as much), but not anymore.

You can't even pitch an idea or show a gameplay trailer anymore without the risk of someone stealing it and making their own, which has always been a thing, but can now be fully fleshed out within a matter of DAYS.

To anyone aspiring to create anything anymore, keep your ideas closely guarded and try to take any precaution to make sure your work is definitively tied to you.

I hate hate hate these gender differences cause they make no sense! Pokemon already has gender differences for most Pokemon and they aren't blatantly "spiky = boy | frilly = girl" most pokemon (with 2 exceptions but wobbufet and jellicent are funny) are something subtle like a Pokemon with horns [males = larger horns than females] not this lizard evolved to have a dress

And also legendary Pokemon (slide 2) dont have genders so why would their be male and female for Pokemon their is only 1 of?

Gaming I hate mining and exploring post Caves and Cliffs so much

Post image
4.3k Upvotes

I think I'm finally getting to my old man yells at cloud phase but I hate modern Minecraft worldgen so much. Big caves like this used to be a rare sight and very special. Mountains would be huge spectacles that often defied logic and had floating chunks with strange surfaces. Now everything is a huge cave full of mobs that just immediately rush you from all directions and it's impossible to light them up fully because they span thousands of blocks in all directions with little ledges somewhere ten blocks up that has just enough darkness to spawn more.

Everything's the same four biomes for lightyears from spawn and the oceans are more like small lakes. Structures are everywhere. I remember when finding a dungeon was special.

But I can excuse all of this, all of it, with one small exception: I fucking despise deepslate for all it stands for and hope the person responsible for it develops an autoimmune disease. "Ooouuhhh let's make the bottom half of the world take nine business days to mine through!" As if having four different stone types filling our inventory wasn't annoying enough, at least the patches of diorite granite and the other one have the decency of breaking the same speed as stone!

Gaming I hate how the Pomni and Jax Fortnite skins look

Post image
4.2k Upvotes

I'm not hating on the collab itself, nor am I hating that it was these two that got skins, but I specifically hate the way they look. Jax's face just looks completely off, it looks like a 2D texture that they slapped on his face. Why they didn't just use the same 3D model seen in the show is beyond me.

Now Pomni on the otherhand, I can't explained it but it looks like they tried to make her design more sexualized. I don't know if it's just her shorts looking weird with the longer legs the skin has or they really did change her design but it looks so uncanny. (but at least it's better than just putting her in a mech so I guess that's a plus)

Gaming I hate the fact that you can’t criticize GTA 6 without a bunch of fans showing up just to bitch about it. Dude, this game has had 13 years of development and reportedly somewhere between $1 billion and $3 billion invested into it. At this point, literally any criticism is fair game.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1.7k Upvotes

And I’m not saying I hate the people themselves. What I fucking hate is the constant whining whenever someone points out even the smallest flaw, like we’re not allowed to criticize anything because ā€œit’s just a tiny detail.ā€

My brother in Christ, IT’S NOT JUST A TINY DETAIL. 😭

That stupid scene where the cup basically gets summoned straight into the character’s hand out of nowhere is a perfect example. People keep saying we’re nitpicking, but this is supposed to be one of the most ambitious, expensive, and anticipated games ever made.

After 13 fucking years of development, it is completely reasonable to expect basic details like this to be handled properly.

And the funniest part? Older games have already managed to do this better.

You take something out of a refrigerator and the object is actually there. It doesn’t magically teleport into your hand like you just cast a fucking spell. How the hell are we still talking about this in 2026? šŸ’€

What pisses me off even more is the idea that criticizing something like this somehow means you think GTA 6 is a bad game. No. You can be incredibly excited for the game and still point out flaws.

In fact, the bigger the budget, the longer the development time, and the higher the expectations, the more reasonable it is to scrutinize the final product. GTA 6 isn’t some random little indie game made in two years by five people. This is one of the biggest and most expensive entertainment projects ever made.

So yes, I’m going to criticize the fucking cup. If something looks stupid, I’m going to say it looks stupid. A detail being small doesn’t magically make the criticism invalid.

Thirteen years. Billions of dollars. Let people complain about the goddamn cup. šŸ˜‚

Gaming ā€œ30 FPS is enoughā€ isn’t an argument, it’s just accepting a limitation

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

Everyone can consume media and play video games however they want, but I think people constantly confuse accepting a limitation with actually preferring it. The fact that something is good enough for someone doesn't mean everyone else should be expected to adopt the same standard.

Games running at 30 FPS because that's what a console can handle is a hardware limitation, just like watching a VHS movie on a CRT because that's the technology that was available at the time. You can absolutely enjoy it. I have. But being okay with it because it's your only option isn't the same thing as choosing it when better options are available.

The movie comparison is strange because movies being 24 FPS is an intentional creative decision. They're filmed, edited, and presented with that frame rate in mind. If you artificially increase the frame rate of a movie, you change how it looks and feels because you're deviating from the way the director intended the material to be presented. Games are different.

Unless a game has a deliberate software limitation or is specifically going for a cinematic or retro presentation, games are designed to respond to player input in real time. Higher frame rates make the experience more responsive and fluid. The fact that a game can be played at 30 FPS on a console doesn't mean it was intended to be played at 30 FPS. It was designed around hardware limitations.

Nobody would seriously argue that 720p is "enough" and therefore people shouldn't expect 1080p or 4K just because older hardware was perfectly fine. Standards change as technology improves. The same applies to FPS.

If you gave someone who says 30 FPS is perfectly fine the option to play an action game at 60, 90, 120 FPS or higher on otherwise identical hardware, how many do you think would voluntarily choose 30? People accepting 30 when it's the only practical option doesn't prove that they're satisfied with it. It just means they've adapted to the limitation.

I can and have enjoyed games at 30 FPS. I used to have a mid tier laptop where that was often my only option. I still had fun. But my standards changed as I got access to better hardware, and I have no interest in going back to those limitations.

That's fine if someone genuinely prefers 30 FPS. Play however you want. But I don't think people should turn their own tolerance for a limitation into an argument that everyone else should lower their standards too.

I'll play GTA VI at 30 FPS on PS5, just like I used to watch VHS movies on a tube TV. I'll enjoy it because that's the only option available. But the moment it gets a PC release, I'm ditching that 30 FPS and playing it on better hardware.

Anyone who has the option to have a better experience is going to have a hard time convincing me that they wouldn't do the same.

Gaming I I hate fighting game roster size nowadays.

I find it HATEFUL that I pay 60 or more dollars (in my case euros) for a fighting game and then greeted by a very small, "mouth-watering" roster of characters consisting of only less than 20 characters ALWAYS. In the Avatar case i can forgive this problem because the price is accessible But for the rest of the industry, there needs to be a change ASAP because it's disgusting. SF6 releases four characters a year and charges up to 50 euros for them and their skins. Oh yeah, this whole paid skin thing in full-price games is horrible. I love Fighting games, i love playing them casual but having small rosters but then selling you a disproportionate number of DLC characters (ArcSys fuck you) it's just cashgrab. Tell me your opinions in the comments.

Gaming The death of art style in video games

Thumbnail
gallery
3.1k Upvotes

AI has genuinely been the worst thing the gaming industry has even had to deal with.

First, it increased the price of RAM so that nobody can afford it anymore, and now it’s taking away individual art styles. Adding a slop filter on top of someone’s intended art direction.

This technology will either ruin gaming entirely, with developers relying on the tech to do all the visual work for them (this would also make it unfeasible to use AMD or Intel)

or

It dies quickly because genuinely nobody wants it. As consumers switch to indie and 2D titles.

Why has the world become hellbent on destroying art? The world would be nothing without art and artists. Buildings used to be colourful and ornamented, art would be hand-drawn by someone over many hours and life in general had so much more colour.

EDIT: A couple people have called the Cloud picture fake. Here’s your proof it’s not.

Gaming I HATE KERNEL-LEVEL ANTI-CHEATS SO MUCH

Post image
3.0k Upvotes

oh my GOD i cannot express my hatred for these kinds of anti-cheats enough. if you dont already know, kernel-level anti-cheats act as a piece of software some companies choose to add into their games to make it harder to cheat. they essentially gain access to all of your hardware and software and then check it all to make sure nothing looks like it would allow you to hack.

the only issues with this software is the fact that it:

  1. makes malware injected through it extremely more dangerous and difficult to remove
  2. doesn’t work on linux directly

  3. its glorified spyware

as someone with 1 storage drive who daily drives linux, it is VERY annoying to have to also keep a windows install eating up a bunch of my storage just to play games that have this stupid software built into them.

i will give battleye and easy-ac the pass here because they technically support linux through tools like proton/wine, but that feature needs to be enabled first on both of them for it to actually work. the issue is, some developers just DO NOT ENABLE IT FOR SOME REASON. i play rainbow six siege, which uses battleye, which (technically) HAS LINUX SUPPORT, but UBISOFT JUST HATES EVERYTHING GOOD IN THE WORLD AND KEEPS IT DISABLED!

Gaming I hate how Edgerunners made people forgot what was CDPR promised for Cyberpunk 2077

Thumbnail
gallery
2.3k Upvotes

I love Edgerunners anime, it's pretty good tragic story about how NC burns its legends.

What I don't like is how its existence made people forget what was promised by CDPR regarding Cyberpunk 2077 game — its immersive RPG experience.

Now the term "RPG" is of course subject to the usual debate of "what counts as RPG". But for Cyberpunk 2077 thankfully we get promised that define what CDPR claimed to be "deep immersive RPG":

https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/s/vm3XesTAKc

Besides the game is supposedly inspired by a TTRPG that lets you do just that, RP as a guy living in NC.

The premise seems pretty simple, a 3D open world game that has such a deep role-playing you thought it's a CRPG, kinda like Fallout New Vegas if you will.

But we didn't get that, no. What we got is a game whose RP is closer to NBA 2K MyCareer than it is to Skyrim. Stats and builds with some dialogue choices here and there.

Aside from select few gigs (Maelstorm in the prologue, Sinnerman, saving Takemura, the ending, etc) the game is pretty damn linear. Your Lifepath only matters for the prologue and some "[Nomad] I live in cars" dialogue that doesn't really change the outcome.

The Night City itself is fucking dead. You can't "interact" with the world. The civilian NPCs are literal drone (that info scan gimmick is literally nothingburger) you can't even interact with, even Bully (2006) allows you to taunt/praise the civilians. There's barely any activities aside from, what, boxing and street racing (with its terrible controls). Like I initially want to compare it to GTA but GTA V has a lot of pastime activities for one.

And the level design. "You can approach combat however you want" and it's mostly just one more vent to slip into. Most of it is just choosing between guns blazing vs stealth, in a very linear way. I've seen ppl compare this to Deus Ex and they're crazy I say.

The enemies. For such a colorful bunch w their lore and with the amazing skill tree we got due from 2.0 Update... They fucking suck in terms of variety, they blend into each other. Sure there's a bit of commonality with some gangs like Animals have a lot of muscle bruiser or Tygers use katana and pistol... But these doesn't meaningfully change how you fight them. Biggest crime is VDB fighting near similarly to fucking larpers in 6th Street. Citing Bully (2006) again, every cliques there fight uniquely. Like the Nerds in Bully sucks in hand to hand, so they rely on their inventions (or some who are pretty good at wrestling, wrestles). Or the Preppies fight with various martial arts and can dodge your attacks while spamming eggs. Or the Jocks being the toughest enemy in the school with their HP bar and effective fighting style related to sports (using baseball bat bc they're playing baseball, charging tackle bc they play football, etc).

And to cap this off, you can even look at CDPR marketing team themselves lol. Their Twitter handle removed the phrase "role playing game" in June 2019, coinciding with them being listed in game stores. And they quietly changed their Steam description in February 2022 to add back the "RPG" (spoilers, they're still not that far off in terms of RP compared to version 1.0).

The first two are pretty straight forward, right? But you may not get why the last one upsets me. I'll explain. Really briefly.

The last one is based off of the racial stereotype that poc have to act a certain way and that only white people can do/say certain things.

Gaming I hate this tweet and this general belief about single player and PvE games

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

When I play a non-sandbox pve game, I expect to engage with some level of an intended experience. If a game gives me access to something that isn't explicitly stated to lower the difficulty (ex. easy mode) or imply that it is a sort of overpowered mechanic meant for mindless fun (ex. cheats/secret weapons) then it is reasonable to expect that this is part of the experience.

It is unreasonable to expect players to have to self-police for an engaging experience when there are no more further in-game options for increased difficulty. It is especially annoying to see this argument used for games that have a consensus expectation for difficulty such as in a franchise that has had challenging games before or an action game that is aimed at older teens to adults. Avoiding certain buttons, mechanics, weapons, or other such things due to them ruining the game balance is a fault of the game. Expecting people to do that is just asking that people play some less complete game, one that has some amount fewer weapons or mechanics.

Scalding hot take: I would say this even applies to unintentional bugs and glitches depending on how easily they are first encountered and replicated. Though I have a significantly milder reaction as to whether or not developers bother trying to fix them.
