Idea The Desloppification sub is horribly out of touch
You have to be trolling if you think some random guy on Reddit has the skills to just put together something as good as the AI version, while also doing it for free, and also doing it in a quick timespan
For the group of people who claim to love artists, they sure seem to dislike actually supporting them— and would rather use their free labor to virtue signal on the internet
Like my guy just use the AI generated slop. No one cares. Nobody is gonna put a curse on you because you had the gull to use AI lol. It’s not that serious
These were just 2 out of 5 images he wanted desloppified; and let me tell you, actually making something like that from hand would take weeks to months even for a skilled artist. No only that, if it was done all from scratch, you’d be looking at a pipeline of a whole team of senior concept artists/VERY skilled artists working with a senior 3D artist (who has to make sure all this stuff makes logical sense in 3D as well as probably make the background and props), and you’re still looking at well over a week for each lol
That is the problem with desloppification. AI can output thousands of these per day when a team of artists would take weeks. You’re fighting a losing battle, give up.

i just don’t understand the point in recreating images that exist as they do because of ai in the first place. hyper realistic absurd images like this have a certain ‘vibe’ about them that people largely can’t recreate feasibly. i understand the contention with ai but the image was already created, using it contributes nothing to the harm that simple education on the topic wouldn’t prevent

u/Gnome_Trousers 14h ago
Yeah and honestly does it not kind of detract from the idea that ai should have no part in the creative process when they're literally using it as inspiration for their artwork?

u/Sandy-the-Angel 13h ago
Also it's just tracing ai with more steps. Meaning that the resulting image is still ai assisted.
7
u/soggypon 14h ago
There’s also no real source. What are the chances that they generated the image themselves to get some artist to deslop it for free 😭

u/RedditSucksMyBallls 14h ago
I bet that’s gotta be insanely unlikely right? If you’re pro-AI I don’t think you would try to get freebies from a real artist you would just keep prompting your AI

“hates the subreddit dedicated to making handmade versions of shitty ai images”
“seems to like ai images and might be pro ai guessing from their comments on this post and the words “it’s a losing battle give up”
holy fuck it’s John pro ai.

u/AutisticFun01 14h ago
Dude every time this guy posts he has the shittiest opinions imaginable I genuinely think he's ragebaiting
2
u/CheerfulWarthog 13h ago
The last twenty years have shown that enough of us have such absolute dogshit opinions for which they will happily commit themselves to for generations that I honestly no longer believe in ragebait. It is my firm belief that what a person will post one day as "lol i am ragebaiting so hard i am truly machiavelli and diogenes reincarnated", they will post within the year - and often within the week - as "this is just common sense and i don't see why people don't understand it".
Unless you think that's a ridiculous thing to firmly believe. In which case I only said it to ragebait you.
7
u/Frxdnt 14h ago
yeah the AI image already exists, and? if you allow people to create slop might as well allow creative people to make them with their own style and give them some personality.
"you're fighting a losing batttle" they know and they are fighting it with honor, god forbid someone likes drawing

I almost thought these were cosplays before i saw which sub this was posted on 😔

The sooner you accept that you like AI so long as you don’t know it’s AI, the sooner you stop hating it and accept the future of our world. Because it is here to stay. It’s never going away

The ironic part is that Buzz in that scene is the one living a delusion and literally couldn’t recognize that fact until he broke himself into pieces

You can hate and accept the future of the world at the same time. There are alot of things, humanity can't to shit about, that I hate regardless.
3
u/JankCranky 14h ago
I hesitate to accept the things that are artificially induced. I fully accept natural things that are truly out of humanity’s control, like the concept of life and death. Which we have tried to conquer for thousands of years.

Artist, here!!
We're doing it for the love of the game. It's not about out-pacing AI. It's about re-spinning designs into something that matches our particular set of morals.
It's no different than eating fake meat alternatives because you're a vegan / vegetarian that doesn't support the meat industry - but still likes the taste of meat.
Yes, it can be understood that recreating things like this can take a long time and a good amount of help ... but we, as artists, highly enjoy creating. I think that slips through the minds of every individual that promotes "surrendering to AI".
We're not looking to get a product, quickly. We're looking to create something because it's something we enjoy doing.
This is an overall ignorant post. Desloppification isn't about defacing the idea of AI superiority (although we are entitled to believe that machines are not superior, in concept). It's about recreating a product that we enjoy, without it creating friction against our morals.
TL;DR, we like making art, stop being whiny about the computers being faster.

u/DaciaSanderoF1Team 14h ago
80% of the post I see from there are just people asking for a desloppification rather than someone actually doing a desloppification

u/That_Anything_1291 14h ago
why did you insinuate that the deslop members is expecting high quality works when most of the deslops is a quick sketch?
3
u/CheerfulWarthog 14h ago
The more and more people say "AI is the future and is never going away and you have to get used to it because it's inevitable", the better I feel about the future of human-made art.
Things that are actually inevitable don't need increasingly desperate sounding cheerleaders.
1
u/RedditSucksMyBallls 14h ago
It isn’t desperation it’s realism. Look how much better it’s gotten since 2023
1
u/Sandy-the-Angel 13h ago
I mean, those people aren't saying it because ai is going away and needs their help lol. Basically every media company is onboarding it. Some just less openly than others.

I think he's out of touch for a different reason. I partly agree with you. He's asking people to do really complex cosplays and sets with Lazy Town type quality, all just for him, all for free. It's ridiculous to simply expect that.
A big part of the issue is that he could simply be lying. He probably adores AI and made them himself, and now switched and is pretending to hate AI just to trick people into making this stuff for him for free. I think a LOT of those posts follow that same logic, they pretend to hate AI but they really just want free art. These people are abusing the kindness of anti AI artists, by tricking them into doing something for free.
You can't trust any of these people for this exact reason. Also, if you hate AI so much, why would you want to pay direct homage to an AI image? Do something original. What's the point in paying homage to this stuff when there's much more value in paying homage to real artists. At least by paying homage to real artists you get to learn something about their techniques, and you'd be honoring the real hard work of a real person.
I totally disagree with the "losing battle" part. AI is incapable of labour, as well as incapable of making physical, sets, making physical costumes, hiring actors, filming, etc. In this case AI will ALWAYS lose because it can do zero of these things. It may make 1000 million short clips that give off the "vibes" of real movies, but it will never ever be able to do the things I just mentioned.
1
u/Sandy-the-Angel 13h ago
No one said ai was going to build sets?
2
u/PrinceDave 13h ago
Of course not. Kinda unsure of what your point is. I'm just giving examples of irreplaceable things. OP's final message was that we should just give up.
2
u/WiiUGamepad_2 MY STUDENTS ARE MORONS!!!! 14h ago
Okay, I moderate the subreddit and that's not the point. The point is to experiment and have fun. I approach desloppifcation as a loose guide to a output that takes inspiration from the slop, but is different in it's own way.
This has lead me to produce this image, which is different from the slop but I personally think it's better than the slop that inspired it. (See slop below)

The fact that artists would take a very long time to remake this would mean there’s heart and soul being put into it and effort, like how a lot of things should be made and earned. With EFFORT. Just sounds like an excuse to defend AI junk
1
u/RedditSucksMyBallls 14h ago
If I pee’d in your lemonade but said “hey man I poured my heart and soul into that piss out of love for you”
Would that make the lemonade any better than the cold corporation that just made it in a lab?
1
u/Own_Imagination_5402 14h ago
That’s not even comparable what the hell lmfao
I would’ve accepted “would you prefer homemade lemonade out of a factory made place or just homemade” but you just wanted to be gross

u/CC_Gamedesign 14h ago
It has nothing to do with being "as good" or outpacing it.
Our point the whole time has been that art is about the process not the outcome.

u/RedditSucksMyBallls 14h ago
Quality over quantity has been a dichotomy for all of art history. And now you can get top quality with insurmountable quantity. What’s the answer to that?

Who benefits from the quality of AI images?

u/CC_Gamedesign 14h ago
People who can't draw benefit from the image, cool.
In comparison drawing the image teaches you to draw, then after many dozens of attempts and revisions you get the benefit of the end product.
The main benefit is learning to draw, developing the skill. The side effect is that there is now a lot of drawings in your house.
I acknowledge the value brought to the person who doesn't know how to draw, and I consider it minimal. You haven't learned anything, you haven't gained anything. I don't care that you have a picture, I'm actually getting better at something.
2
u/CC_Gamedesign 9h ago
Despite the fact that you deleted your comment I'll reply to the idea that "some people don't have the time"
You don't need to master it, however much time you have to dedicate toward it is how much of an artist you're capable of / willing to be.
Most of the best artists I know have disabilities and became good at what they do inspite of their limits.
Sure if you want an image go ahead and use existing assets or generate your own, the more people use AI the faster these companies run out of money I don't mind pouring gas on the flames, but this post is devaluing the effort that people are putting in.
Minimizing the effort that you aren't willing to go through to make it easier to accept the fact that you refuse to learn and grow puts down the people who did go through the effort to be better than you are.

u/Poopiepeepeepoo 14h ago
I sure am losing a battle and that's the battle of finding the will to live in a world that's becoming faker, faster, greedier, more self-centered than ever.. generative ai stands against everything i wish society would be, and yeah, don't worry, I'm close to giving up
1
u/AutisticFun01 14h ago
Heyyy wait a second aren't you the guy who posted about videogames needing to be 70+ dollars because companies put a lot if work into them?
-4
u/RedditSucksMyBallls 14h ago

Lol desloppifying this would take some of the best 3D and 2D artists living right now and still weeks of work. I’m talking about artists who work for the top film companies/VFX studios for shit like Warner Brothers and Illumination/Pixar. Like cream of the crop
The level of detail AI images can put in is simply impossible for 99% of artists to replicate, and it does this in minutes lol
4
u/True-Estate2007 14h ago
Dude nobody said the picture has to be exactly same it just has to have same soul
1
u/Not_An_Potato 14h ago
You have so little faith in artists, to say a drawing of the images you posted would take months or this would be impossible for 99% of people is ridiculous. You say 'would take some of the best 3D artists weeks' is absolutely false, I know a professional 3D model guy who could make it in less than a week, he creates the outline of a dinosaur in 20 minutes in Blender.
I'm a gal who makes art for fun, if I take my back into something I can make a full art with multiple characters, scenario and lightning in 3 days. Granted is not hyper realism, because I don't specialize in that area, but a skilled artist who focus on this style could do a better drawing than I do with the same amount of time. You're either out of touch or spreading AI propaganda in disguise.
0
u/RedditSucksMyBallls 14h ago
Go look at any AAA game development pipeline and you’ll see the cost of hyperrealism
Again, AI can effortlessly produce hyperrealism. Something that requires the most skilled artists alive

Probably less than 1% of artists could replicate that. And it’s still probably 27 times slower than AI
1
u/Not_An_Potato 14h ago
You'd probably assume only 1% of human population can solve a hubrics cube, you're out of touch
0
u/RedditSucksMyBallls 14h ago
And a Hyperreal portrait doesn’t get you close to the AI depicted in their post. You also have to have Hyperreal backgrounds and props and perspective and lighting and everything else

If this AI art was made by human hands and looked exactly the same and was put in an Art museum, nobody would ever have any negative opinions of it or think it doesn’t belong. It is genuinely 0.01% level of art

u/JonathanStones1989 Lord of Green 14h ago
people will do a deslop and some people will say "well it's too similar to the original so it's not really deslop"
