Enjoy a long rambling list of America headcanons!
• I’m just gonna start out by saying that I don’t particularly view Alfred having a buff, toned body. If anything, he’s chubby with some muscle. He’s both soft and strong, sturdy and cuddly, and an absolute unit in a fight. He can lift and carry heavy things and doesn’t tire out easily, yet this doesn’t burn off his chub completely. He might slim down a bit, but he’s still quite round and friend-shaped.
• Put this man in a button down flannel/plaid shirt or long sleeved casual shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. It’s a dang good look, istg.
• Since most people headcanon this, I will too. Alfred is quite versed in quite a number of languages, being Spanish, German, some French, and a bit of Italian. Most of these languages were learned due to the number of immigrants that came to America and, as a result, Alfred somehow acquired the ability to understand. However, over time, Alfred has forgotten some of what he has learned but can still communicate at a basic level. Though if there’s one language that Alfred has perfected, it would be ASL. With Al being very expressive with his hand gestures, sign language naturally came easy to him.
• America will always, ALWAYS, bring Tupperware to World meetings whenever someone cooks something. There’s always a rotation of whoever hosts the World Meeting, the food that is served is from said hosts country. And given that Al is a major foodie, he always has Tupperware in tow because he wants to enjoy some of that food when he gets home. He’s not picky when it comes to cuisine and is willing to try things at least once. He’s a man of opportunity after all. Bonus points if he asks for the recipe.
• Speaking of food, when it’s Alfred’s turn to host, he’ll do either Southern BBQ or an outdoor grill party. He’s very versed with a grill and knows how to season his food. You can bet that he gets a kick out of people’s reactions when they try his brisket.
• He works in Washington DC, a no brainer there, in a government office with other political officials. Most of his work contains a lot of paperwork and general tasks pertaining to his states and a bunch of legislative duties. It’s very grueling for him as it requires a lot reading and looking over documents sent over by his states to look over, proofread, and re-send. Occasionally, there are Zoom meetings where he’ll be in chat rooms with the other States and their senators, which can take hours to wrap up, as well as check ins with the President to oversee any global issues or current events going on that may need addressing. Sometimes he’ll get in touch with the other nations, but most of his time is spent at the Capital with other politicians.
• However, part of his job also consists of him traveling to the other states in person to see how they’re doing. Part of it is work related, but it’s also an opportunity for Al to see his family and catch up.
• Al does side hustles just for fun. He does Twitch and streams all kinds of games and gets into lobbies with other nations who also game, like Japan and Prussia.
• He volunteers in various programs and has worked in helping adults get into schooling and acquire skills to apply for jobs. He involves himself in community drives, whether it’s food pantries or back to school events. Like, this is the kind of hero work that I can imagine Al doing and enjoying that gives him a break from his usual mundane, stressful existence.
• Al knows when to lock-in. He feigns ignorance when the topic doesn’t involve him, but when it does, his demeanor changes quick.
