Need Travel Guide & Tips!

Hi, we are a group of around 10 college students visiting Manali from (30th Oct to 2nd Nov).

  1. What would be the best option to stay in Manali (Hostels/Homestays/Hotels?), we are planning a budget trip under 10k (excluding travel to Manali).
  2. What activites should we prioritise, and what can we realistically explore in 3.5 days?
  3. What’s the best way to get around Manali and visit nearby places such as the Atal Tunnel and Sissu? Would you recommend renting scooters?
  4. Any hidden gems/places which we should explore? And what day-wise itenary would you recommend ?

Also, if there are any important things we should keep in mind while visiting the city ?

Thank you!

Hi! I am a 27F solo traveller in Kalpa right kow and looking for company to travel to Spiti tomorrow. We can rent a bike but I can only be a pillion rider. We can also rent a cab found a local credible cab guy who is up for a 2 night 3 day trip for a decent amount. Or we have HRTC always at the end.

Anyone planning/want to join to do one day road trip on 19th Oct Sangla/Batseri/Rakchham/Chitkul (from Kalpa/Reckong) maybe one night stay in Chitkul and come back next morning?

I was thinking about the bus schedule being so tight reaching these places, if someone is having the same thought we can book a cab and split the cost among the group. We will save a lot of our time and explore really well.

Need advice for a winter trip

Hi, I'm planning a once-off trip to celebrate a personal milestone and the main goal is real snow. After much discussion, I feel I could do 3N in Manali, a Kasol riverside cottage for a day and maybe Jibhi for a treehouse night. I'm skipping Spiti (too harsh) and Kalpa.

My worries:

  1. Snow timing. Is late December reliable enough, or is mid/late January the safer bet? Last winter looked light in December and heavy in late January.

  2. Closures. I know Rohtang is shut by snow, and Jalori is usually closed in winter. One agent told me Jibhi gets road blocks in January. Another said treehouses are unavailable because of the cold. A third said Jibhi is low enough to stay accessible. Who's right? And what's the tradeoff?

  3. Sissu. The panchayat has banned tourism there from about mid-January to Feb 28 for Halda/Losar in recent years. For Jan 15-21 that's right on the edge, so I'm not planning to go. Do I need to postpone or change the dates to accomodate heavenly views of Sissu? If so, what's the right time?

  4. DIY vs agency. Would booking refundable stays myself and a taxi separately be as comfortable and cheaper? I suspect it's close to break-even once you add dinners and heaters.

What I'd love to hear:

\-Recent experience (last 1-2 winters) of snow in Manali, Solang, Kasol and Jibhi in mid-December vs mid-January.

\-Is a Kasol riverside cottage livable in January, and how do you keep it warm?

\-Is January actually worth the extra flight cost over December? Or is a later month like Feb and March better and more bearable?
