Question - General Confusion regarding Tithis

Namaste,

I had a question. Earlier we used to have a normal fixed date for all festivals without any ambiguity. However in recent years, there is confusion regarding the date of almost all festivals. What is the reason behind this?

Tithis are based on moon calander, days are based on Sunrise Sunset. There are so many videos available on YouTube.

This is something you can ask AI to explain as well since it's pure mathematics and astronomy.

Another concept is Brahma muhurt, Vaishnavism mostly consider Brahma muhurt as start of day. Smart system consider Sunrise as beginning of day. Due to this reason, sometimes ekadashi is observed on different days by Vaishnavites and others

I know the concept and even the mathematical idea. However nowadays litearally for every festival you get almost two dates. Any random festival you search on net will show you dozens of articles even by news websites with the title as when is the festival date a or date b

When the Tithi lasts two days, you can celebrate on either day. Some pujas like Satya Narayana Vrata need to be performed on the evening of Pournima. So if that Tithi spans two days, you simply do the puja on the first day when the timing and the Tithi coincide. Some Lokashastras advise people that if a Tithi is prevalent at sunrise, you can consider that entire day as that same Tithi even if it ends before the end of the day. This is really not as big of a problem as it’s made out to be.

It’s always been like this. It’s the same calendar system that is being followed. A tithi spanning for more than 24 hours and a tithi getting skipped overall is a common occurrence.

I think this happens after every 70-75 years.
