I don't think it's a remembering peter, i think it's much more of a "banner seen this boy before" type of recognition, like seeing someone that you went to high school with
39
u/badpiggy490 Sep 04 '26
This was my thought as well
While I love the theory that hulk remembered Peter, it doesn't work here entirely when Peter and hulk haven't really met much
More importantly, the scene kinda showed that it was Banner's influence because of that scene with the mirror and whatnot
18
u/T_AND_R_VLOGS Sep 04 '26
Adding onto this - the fact that it IS banners influence too, shows that Banner and Hulk could be both merging again, but not necessarily like they did in endgame, but a PROPER thing, like in Moon Knight where they can talk to each other kinda thing
12
u/whosawesomethisguy Sep 04 '26
All I want is a scene where Bruce and Hulk communicate in their collective mindscape. Bruce can come to terms with the fact that HE created by Hulk through his traumatic childhood and had been suppressing his emotions long before the gamma accident.
8
u/VallyMeowy Sep 04 '26
Yeah it bothers me that right now in the MCU the only explanation we’ve gotten for why the Hulk exists is Bruce is bad at dealing with his emotions. It would be so much more interesting to dive into his childhood trauma and how that affected him in such a subconscious and psychological way

u/northernCRICKET Sep 04 '26
I don't think he recognized Peter, I think Peter saying they're friends reminded him of Black Widow and Captain america and the other friends he's lost. His anger that makes him strong was overwhelmed by sadness that he wants to hide from so he relinquished control back to banner to avoid those feelings
3
u/SnooObjections6002 Sep 04 '26
I’d like to think Hulk actually considers the avengers as his friends, he knows his enemies and allies and he doesn’t need to be tight buddies with them. So when Peter said it, it triggered something in him. Hulk is intelligent too just has anger issues and is bad at communicating.
Thats what I think anyways

“Banner forgot, but I did not forget”

Most high schoolers you’ve seen again don’t wear masks. Hulk can’t recognize someone he can’t see with a mask on….

One of hulk’s powers is seeing spirits. This has been a thing for forever

They didn’t, people are misinterpreting the scene, because they want it to match with the panel from Immortal Hulk: Great Power

Tony’s funeral. Only time. Plus Parker didn’t have his mask on.

I think the running theory is at Tony’s funeral, offscreen. That would be pretty flimsy though so I’m leaning toward it being the word “friend” that made Hulk pause.

It's hulk usual. Hulk got almost 0 civilian casualty. And inside the mask hulk so he really is just a kid so he let go. Honestly that's the only way to stop hulk. Only hulk can stop hulk

Hes easily getting slammed by abomination in this panel?
12
u/wizarouija Sep 04 '26
Hulk just knew he deserved that for having slept with Abom’s wife
8
u/Mad_Mouthpiece Sep 04 '26
He would have deserved it... BUUUUT for some reason in this run they absolutely assassinated the Abominations character, they made Emil an abusive husband yet he still refers to his "loving wife" they were torturing him by making him watch the tape of her saying goodbye over and over again but if this is the case what was the real punishment? That he couldn't go home and Pummel his wife some more? He's nothing like that in any other run.

Sometimes I wonder what hulk's muscles feel like. Do they feel like metal?
36
u/meeBon1 Sep 03 '26
I bet it feels like hard stone with a thin layer of skin
19
u/jasberry1026 Sep 04 '26
Thin layer of skin? I'm picturing something more thick, like hippo skin or something
→ More replies (2)2
u/Original-Mirror3967 Sep 06 '26
spiderman literally exclaimed in the movie while trying to put the suppressor onto him “how thick is your skin!?!”
10
u/Mltv416 Sep 04 '26
With how strong he is and given hes able to punch through metal and stone id asume that its equally as tough so yeah probably feels like cinderblocks
4
4
u/RigBughorn Sep 04 '26
Thor's muscles apparently feel like steel cable, I imagine pretty much all super heroes feel like steel cables underneath either some thin elastic membrane, or with the Hulk, presumably a thick dense rubber.
3
u/AlwaysBeQuestioning Sep 04 '26
That’s why I don’t think it’d be pleasant to fuck Thor or similarly muscled people unless you are one too.
3
u/RigBughorn Sep 04 '26
Also makes it less plausible that any of them could hide being superheroes lol. One hug or pat on the shoulder and they'd think SOMETHING was up lol

There's one panel in the Baki manga where Baki describes hitting Yujiro as hitting a stone pillar wrapped in thick rubber, I imagine it's similar to that

u/laserbran2 Sep 03 '26
“I didnt know you could get that big”
58
u/dane_the_great Sep 03 '26
there's a subtle funniness or something about that line to me, like all the superheroes have certain laundry lists of information that they have all filed away about each other kinda like kids on a playground do about them

The heroes who don't personally know Spider-Man probably assume his webs have always been organic.

Anytime the HULK persona takes the driver seat without Banner he is physically bigger. When he was in the arena he was even bigger than this, BUT by that point Hulk had taken over completely for months by that point.
When banner is in the driver seat you get smart Hulk, and smart Hulk was even smaller during the She-Hulk tv series then he was in Endgame because by that point Banner had been in charge for even longer without reverting back to his human form.
Avengers and AOU Banner and Hulk were still fighting mentally for control and at that point Natasha was Hulks trigger because Hulk and Banner both liked Natasha.

My head canon right now is that this is the Hulk from when Norton was still Hulk. We have had a semi controlled Hulk since the end of that film with that controller being "broken" means it's us seeing a free savage hulk after a very long time.
2
u/DaiKaiM3CHA Sep 04 '26
Rmb Scarlett Johannson in 5'3. Hulk had to almost crouch down completely to meet Spidey's face and Tom is 5'8.

thats pretty much hulk from a baby to an adult. heard a theory the reason he looks so stupid and troglodytic was cos it was his first time out in a world so advanced and hes hunched over like a idiot this is one of the first times we’ve seen hulk stand up straight w a posture of a MAN. if u take a look at the hulks we’ve seen hes been getting more and more distinct in the facial features as hes grown more accustomed to the world and his environment

I don't think he's actually bigger, at least not from these pics. In the first he's clearly crouching down and natasha is taller than peter. Put these together and perspective makes him look bigger

u/vonDinobot Sep 04 '26
So there's this thing with spiders, where the female is bigger than the male.
So Black Widow is bigger than Spider-man, and that's why the Hulk looks bigger in Brand New Day. He's not, Spider-man is just tiny.
