interview First time watcher! Just finished the show

For a CW show, this was probably one on the darkest tv shows I’ve seen, from Blaine killing kids to Blaine being a literal sex trafficker and filmore graves kinda being a dictatorship. Like this show belonged on HBO tbh. I loved the show so much!!! It was very well done

Definitely had a big drop off for me in terms of quality of writing for Liv in the latter seasons, but totally made up for it with the finale. I am hard pressed to recall a more satisfying series finale than this one.

Yeah I didn’t really care for the last couple of seasons as much, but they were still funny. I think like a lot of shows, it ran its course.

My issue was that they changed how the brains worked on liv. They went from subtle to overpowering. I like the slight personality tweaks, I didn't love the complete wardrobe resets. She's a good enough actress to pull it off, but I dont feel like the show could handle it.

I didn’t like when she became Renegade. Her whole thing in the first few seasons was how horrible it was to be a Zombie. She wouldn’t even turn her brother who was about to die. All of a sudden she is volunteering to scratch people. Didn’t make sense to me.

i think it could possibly show how her character has devolved (depending on how you look at it) from everything shes went through, because major does have a point when he says she volunteered just because she wants her "life" to have meaning/has a massive savior complex to cope with being a zombie. i also choose to look at her becoming way more immersed in the brains as an intentional representation of her mental state, bc she mentions how shes been leaning into the brains way more when she's on the guy who hallucinates his wife's brain because she was still grieving/traumatized from drake's death etc. it could definitely be bad writing (probably is) but its increased my enjoyment lol

I like your interpretation. For me, I preferred when it was more of a "Wait, why am I acting this way? What do you mean I have all these skills?" Or a "I ate a brain, give me a sec, I can probably do this thing" vs a random brand new wardrobe and accent and complete loss of 'Liv.'

yeah thats so valid, tbh i also liked the series much more that way. its definitely a "less is more" type of thing - when the brains were more subtle it was way funnier and/or surprising when traits would pop out. i also think the internal conflict between "the brain" and liv made her more of an interesting character, because she could actually recognize her real thoughts/feelings/morals etc were separate from the brain and it would sometimes create a lot of issues for her. a good example is the mercenary brain (i think?) where she logically knows shes being kind of an emotionless dick, but she cant fully control it.

A fantastic series for sure. So hilarious. Clive and Liv are so great in this.

Yeah it’s definitely my comfort show. I’m still waiting for the Izombie movie lol. Although I doubt it would ever happen, and they did wrap it up nicely.

Right? And it would be easy to come up with a concept. Everyone is off doing their projects though so it’ll never happen. And they did give it a good ending.

There's also the small matter of natural human aging, although I suspect they could always say Liv and Major took the cure then got rescratched for some reason. But you're right; they're off doing other things and they truly did end it well.

This show would be too powerful if they had an HBO budget, but it would have been so awesome in the last 2 or so seasons with the dystopia of it all

Beauty and the Beast (2012) 😄 I think it was CW too, and the same detective / procedural format.

Totally agree! From what I remember, 90210 had some dark plotlines too like they were so random 😭😭
