A Horror Story:
Wheat and Crows
In a small village lived a priest who, thanks to his charisma, captivated the people; he exuded calm, filled the air with joy, and was fascinated by animals, though he had a deep fear of crows.
In the same village lived a mayor who was highly respected and loved by all.
There were also the hunters, responsible for great achievements and the protection of the village; their leader, believed to possess spiritual qualities, provided great security to the rest of the inhabitants.
However, as the old saying went: "Small village, big hell." Strange disappearances began to occur in that village, and no matter how hard they tried, no one could discover the cause.
One night, the priest went out to feed some of his sheep, but he came across the scene of a massacre; only a few creatures remained alive. From that night on, all the villagers were on high alert, keeping watch from late into the night until dawn for several days, until they finally found the culprit.
"A vampire!" –the rumors proclaimed–
"He wore a black hood that hid his face," –was the refrain repeated every day–
Knowing exactly what they were up against, they prepared a trap. They used a live lamb, given to them by the kind priest, and several sacred objects prepared by the head hunter as bait. Thanks to their strategy, they waited patiently in the shadows.
Suddenly, the vampire appeared, ready to feed on the lamb. Together, they stalked him, ambushed him, and tied him up tightly with ropes and stakes. But when they removed his hood to see who he really was, the entire community was shocked, and a profound disappointment fell upon them when they discovered that the monster was none other than the priest himself.
After the terrible discovery, they immediately went to search the church while deciding what sentence to impose. In the temple, they discovered horrible and abhorrent things. Filled with fury, the head of the hunters cursed him for all eternity:
"For all those you devoured, we condemn you to be devoured by worms and to have ravens as the sole witnesses of your misery," he shouted with force and sorrow, pronouncing the sentence.
To make the spell work, they left him hanging high up like a scarecrow all night. As the hours passed, the mayor embedded ears of wheat into his body before leaving. The next day, only the bleached bones of that priest remained.
From that day on it is said "that when you manage to spot a scarecrow in the distance and see that the crows are approaching it, you must flee from that place as fast as you can, since that being has been hungry for many millennia since its last supper."
