AskIndy Coming into town for a small weekend getaway
Hi, I’ll be arriving in Indianapolis on Saturday just to get away from my hometown for the weekend. I’m a young adult in my early 20s and want to have a solid time out here. I love malls so I already found thee-one to go to, so I’ll definitely go there. Other things I’ll check out is downtown (walking around) and Massachusetts Avenue (heard good things about it). I’m big into nightlife as well so I’m planning to hit a few gay bars in the evening. I’m kind of wondering how nice people are out at any bars here because I genuinely want to meet some fun people. I love making new connections out-of-state as well. I was thinking Italian food to treat myself to dinner out, but not sure what all is available and good quality.

I think Gregs is supposed to be really fun and welcoming. Maybe you’ll meet some people to go to Fountain Square/Mass Ave with! Bottleworks might be cool to check out for food. These are all really pretty close together. Not too far east is Irvington if you want to do some gift shopping stop at Hampton & Co (they have drag shows in their retail space frequently), nearby bar Monsterz, a bunch of excellent food options. It’s kind of a village inside the city, so possibly not your vibe, but everyone gets super into Halloween and it’s all very 🏳️🌈friendly… I hope you have a really fun visit!

Thank you, I did check out some of mass Avenue today and it has been very nice and so has downtown

Downtown ollys is also a great gay bar—definitely just a BAR, not a club, but the food and vibes are good and it might be an easier place to strike up a convo than some of the clubs!

As a black queer women I did not enjoy ollys. The drinks are mid and the people just stared. Definitely didn’t feel welcoming .

Fountain Square is a cool arts district to check out with a few solid Italian restaurants. We also have a bike share program that would be a great way to explore more of the city and commute between mass ave, downtown, and fountain square.
Metro and Tini are a few gay bars, I think (straight male who doesn’t go out much)
