Building two-sided marketplace

• Upvotes

(and its more complicated than just building two apps)

I work with Praetorix Foundry, a product development studio, and wanted to share one of our team's interesting projects: Vesna, an HVAC marketplace connecting homeowners with local professionals. Btw "Vesna" means "spring" in Ukrainian - just fun fact =)

The platform includes web, iOS and Android applications, location-based matching, real-time messaging, payment workflows and separate experiences for homeowners and contractors - kinda complicated, tbh I doubt somebody could just vibe-code this if they have no programming background.

You can see the project here: https://foundry.praetorix.com/cases/vesna

What I find interesting about marketplaces in general is that the technical challenge isn't necessarily the matching algorithm, it's more about making the entire process work when real people behave unpredictably (they always do that!)

Some questions we asked before moving futher:

  • Which contractors should receive potential clients request? Why them?
  • What happens if nobody responds?
  • What if several contractors respond simultaneously?
  • How do platform handle cancellations and missed appointments?
  • Who resolves disputes when something goes wrong?

Frankly speaking - what looked like a relatively straightforward app became a collection of interconnected workflows.

Interesting what you guys think on it given the current state of the industry.

Cheers

Building Promptory: Practical AI Tools for Small Businesses

• Upvotes

I’m building Promptory, a small digital store focused on practical tools for small businesses and solo operators.

My first tools include an IT troubleshooting assistant for common computer, Wi-Fi, and printer problems, plus a content repurposing tool.

I’m working on making these genuinely useful and would appreciate feedback on what small-business owners find most frustrating or time-consuming.

[INTRO] Critical Bananas — a shared ad wall for brands and memes

I'm building Critical Bananas. The idea is a shared wall where an image for your project sits alongside other brands and memes, and clicking it takes people to your website.

It's still prelaunch. Only the waitlist is open; I'm trying to find out who'd actually want a spot before opening the wall.

I also made a music ad for it, which was probably more fun than writing this introduction: https://x.com/dovrikson/status/2112164880581325234

If it sounds like your kind of thing: https://criticalbananas.com/

I built a tool to make renovation quotes less confusing. Would love honest feedback from people who've been through it

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm an Australian founder and I've built Quote Unpack, a tool to help homeowners make sense of renovation quotes.

It came from how hard it is to work out what's actually included in a quote, what's missing, and what to ask before committing to a tradie.

You can upload a single quote to see what it includes and leaves out, or compare up to five quotes side by side. The first look is free and there's no sign-up. Your files are only used to create the report and aren't kept.

I'd really value feedback from people who have renovated, are renovating, or work in the trades:
Would you find something like this useful?
What would you want it to tell you about a quote?
What would make you trust it enough to use it for a big spending decision?
I'm obviously close to it so I'd rather hear what doesn't work or what's missing than "sounds good".
Try it: quoteunpack.com.au
No quote handy? See an example report
Thanks, I genuinely appreciate any thoughts!

What's your business about?

I built a tool that finds the news relevant to your business and puts links to the most important articles into a weekly email brief.

I want to test it on some real-world startups/businesses and would really appreciate a short description of what you are building or running! I'll reply with the relevant articles it finds.
For best results try to include what you're offering, the size of your business and who/where your market is. :)

I've mainly tested it on example e-commerce business descriptions so I'm extra curious how well (or how badly) it works across different industries and business models.

If you're up for trying the real deal, the website is at www.yourweeksbrief.com

[INTRO] SellFinder — connecting independent shops with shoppers by interest

Hi r/indiebiz — we’re the team behind SellFinder, an app connecting businesses with shoppers around the product categories they care about.

We’d like to connect with independent shop owners and product brands interested in sharing their products, new launches, coupons or special offers with relevant shoppers.

If that sounds useful for your business, introduce yourself in a reply: what do you sell, and which countries do you serve? We’d love to discuss whether SellFinder is a fit.

For shoppers, our free email list lets you choose the categories you’re interested in and sign up for product discoveries, new launches and upcoming offers:

https://sellfinder.app/join

That link is the shopper signup. Shop owners can reply here to start a conversation with us.

I built an offline maintenance logger for technicians to record repairs without signal

Equipment Tracker Pro lets field technicians log complete maintenance visits against specific equipment, capturing work details, parts replaced, before and after photos, and labor hours.

I built this app because I am a working HVAC technician, and standard tools always demanded internet connectivity in concrete basements or required typing identical unit notes repeatedly.

When finishing a service call on a commercial ice machine, for example, you can record a water curtain changeout, sanitizing cycle, and 1.5 labor hours directly on your device. The history attaches permanently to that machine's record.

Basic equipment tracking works with no signal: records, work orders, PM schedules and service logs all run on the phone. AI scanning and diagnostics need a connection.

Bring your existing list in with the CSV import. It is free.

What projects are you working on this week?

[INTRO] I’m 18 and design electronic products—meet S.T.A.R.E., animated eyes for pumpkins and year-round characters

Hi, I’m 18 and invent and design electronic products under the name GurgleApps. I’ve just launched S.T.A.R.E., a pair of animated eyes that grew out of the eyes we put in our carved pumpkins every Halloween. It’s been years in the making.

I wanted to make the project usable by people who aren’t electronics hobbyists. Connect the parts, plug in USB power and the eyes start animating. You can buy the Electronics Kit for your own pumpkin, prop, costume or handmade creation, or choose the kit with a stand and eye mount for interchangeable character faces. I’m continuing to design new characters, with a Christmas set in progress so the same electronics can be reused beyond Halloween.

A big part of the work has been the Victorian-themed control panel. Open it in your phone or computer’s browser to choose designs or customise colours, iris patterns, pupil shapes, sizes and movement, without writing code.

For transparency, I designed these and I sell them: £40 for the Electronics Kit, or £45 with the stand. Character faces are sold separately. I’m happy to answer questions about the product and the process of getting it into production.

[INTRO] A small gift for the cat mom who loves her tiny troublemaker

Disclosure: this mug is from my business.

We offer ceramic gift mugs, and this cat-mom design is for someone who adores her cat despite the attitude and demands. It is an 11 oz mug with a humorous cat-mom message.

For a more personal gift, pair it with a printed photo of her cat and a note about that cat's funniest habit. The mug can be the everyday part of the gift; the photo and note make it specific to her.

[INTRO] DeadlineFloat: a small Mac calendar utility, looking for feedback on pricing

I'm the developer of DeadlineFloat, a Mac app that shows your Google Calendar day on a thin bar along the screen edge. Hover and it opens into what's due plus a day or week calendar. I've used it for about a month and just started selling it. I built it with a lot of help from AI coding tools.

I'm trying to work out a sensible business model for a small utility. It's sold directly through my website, outside the App Store:

  • 7-day trial, no card.
  • $3.99/month or $19.99/year.
  • $29 lifetime as a founding price for the first 100 buyers.

I'd like opinions from other independent business owners: is a monthly plan worth having at this price, or does it clutter the choice? Would you keep a lifetime option permanently?

The app is native Swift, signed and notarized, and works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 14 or newer. Google Calendar only for now.

One early-access limitation: Google verification was submitted, but I haven't confirmed approval yet. Sign-in may show a "Google hasn't verified this app" screen, and Google limits the number of accounts that can connect while it's unverified. Please try the free trial before buying to make sure you can connect.

Built a simple extension to see what tech stack any website is running

Hey everyone!

Wanted to share a side project I've been working on lately called TechReveal.

Basically it shows you what frameworks, libraries, and tools any website is running. I built it because existing tools felt way too bloated and I just wanted something simple, fast, and completely private that runs 100% locally with zero data tracking.

I also added a simple visual map to see how the frontend, backend, and tools connect, along with clean version detection.

It's free on the Chrome Web Store if anyone wants to check it out:

Would love any honest feedback, bug reports, or suggestions!

[Request] Android app that only shows what’s happening within 2.5 KM

I built Neighray, a live map of just your neighborhood (2.5 km around you), where you can:

  • Open a room on the map about anything: a power outage, a lost dog, a noisy party. Anyone nearby can join. Rooms close after 6 hours.
  • Buy and sell nearby. Listings stay up until they’re sold, and buyers and sellers do a quick selfie check.
  • Chat one-on-one under a random handle. No real name and no phone number needed. Private messages disappear after 2 hours.

Your location only shows roughly (about 500 m), never your exact spot.

I’d love to know:

  1. Would this be useful where you live?
  2. What would make you open it every day?
  3. Was anything confusing in the first minute?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neighray.app

Honest heads-up: it’s brand new and launched in Pakistan first, so your area will probably be empty. If you give it a try,

How do you manage invoices, expenses, and cash flow as a solo founder?

One thing I underestimated about running a small business was how much time goes into keeping track of the money side.

Invoices in one place, expenses somewhere else, payments coming in at different times and constantly checking what's been paid and what hasn't.

I've been looking into ways to simplify this especially using AI to handle some of the repetitive tracking and admin. I don't really need a complicated finance system, just something that keeps everything organized without having to check five different tools.

For those running a business on your own, are you still using spreadsheets or have you found a better way to manage everything?

I built a free real estate tool to help people decide whether to buy or rent. Looking for honest feedback!

Hey everyone!

I've been working on HomeIntel, a free real estate platform designed for the U.S. housing market that helps people compare buying versus renting, understand homeownership costs, and analyze real estate investments.

I have a master's degree in International Real Estate, and I wanted to build something that makes these financial decisions easier to understand.

I've included a description of HomeIntel below, and I'm happy to share screenshots or a quick demo with anyone interested.

The website supports English and Spanish, and I'm looking for 10–15 people in the U.S. interested in giving honest feedback before launch.

Would you find something like this useful? What would you improve?

If you'd like to test it, comment or DM me. The beta is currently private.

Any feedback is appreciated!

[INTRO] No Apologies Apparel — graphic tees with a loud front and a louder back

I run No Apologies Apparel, a veteran-owned graphic tee shop in Naples, Florida. The collection draws on hockey, locker-room attitude and after-hours style.

Two designs I’m putting in the spotlight:

No Chill UNK in Orange: blue Locker Room Mentality lettering on the front and No Chill UNK on the back. Printed on an adult Bella+Canvas jersey tee.

Sleaze in Graphite: sharp black-and-white lettering across the front of a relaxed-fit Comfort Colors tee. The back is plain.

These are made to order. Product pages show the size guides and available colors; shipping costs and delivery estimates appear at checkout. Please check measurements before ordering, since size and color exchanges aren’t offered.

[INTRO] Tiny Islanders: a Roblox game about friends becoming island residents, still in beta

If you enjoy Roblox with friends, decorating rooms and watching relationship drama unfold, Tiny Islanders may fit what you're looking for.

You turn your friends into island residents, with crushes, confessions, rivalries and weddings. You can decorate their rooms, dress them up, and team up in a mode called Island Quest. Festivals, trips and surprises happen every day.

It's still in beta and gets new content with updates. The player base is small: the page lists a goal of 3 active players, so don't take this introduction as a promise of busy servers.

https://www.roblox.com/games/116589867327797/Tiny-Islanders

For the players and small game makers here, what would you want to know about a social game like this before giving the beta a try?

Disclosure: I'm posting this on behalf of the roblox.com/games/116589867327797/Tiny-Islanders team.

Looking for Beta Testers for My AI Assistant XERION

Hey everyone! I'm building XERION, an AI assistant designed to bring AI tools, task automation, and other capabilities together in one platform.

The goal is to make it easier to use AI for everyday tasks without constantly switching between different tools. I'm currently testing the platform and looking for early users who can help me find bugs, test features, and give honest feedback.

I'd love testers to try a few realistic tasks and share what worked, what failed, and what could be improved.

What I'm looking for:

  • People willing to test the beta and report genuine bugs.
  • Feedback on usability, reliability, and features.
  • Suggestions for what I should improve next.

I'm offering 20 active testers access to the highest subscription plan, including all features, in exchange for helping test the platform. Everyone can try the beta for free regardless.

Try XERION: https://xerion-backend-production.up.railway.app/frontend/index.html

Join the Discord: https://discord.gg/2YUQJt3zea

I'm building this independently and would really appreciate honest feedback from other makers. Feel free to ask me anything about the project!

[REQUEST] Founders to test a free 2D/3D motion graphics prototype for their own product videos

I'm Andrea, a motion designer based in Italy. I'm building Framevolve and looking for independent founders who need a short video for a real product and want to try making it themselves.

It's basically vibe coding for commercial 2D and 3D motion graphics. Your coding agent builds the scene; a visual studio lets you refine the motion, cameras, lights and materials before rendering locally. Current local setup is tested on macOS.

The prototype is free. You use your own ChatGPT/Codex or Claude Code subscription, subject to its usage limits. There is no extra Framevolve subscription or rendering fee.

I'll help with setup and questions while you test it. What I need in return is honest feedback on where you get stuck and whether the finished video is something you'd actually use. If you're happy with what you make, you can use it for your business.

If that sounds useful, contact me here and I'll send the prototype and setup details. What would you want your first video to show?

[INTRO] Built a local-first Android and Wear OS second brain that syncs with Google Tasks

Hey everyone, wanted to share what I have been building over the past few months.

Most note and second brain tools these days try to lock you into their own proprietary cloud ecosystem with recurring subscriptions. I just wanted something fast and private for Android and Wear OS that plays nicely with the tools I already rely on every day.

So I built Thoth. The main idea is local-first data ownership. All notes and connections stay inside an encrypted SQLite database on your phone with Android cloud backup explicitly turned off. When you capture a voice note or quick thought that has an actionable task, it automatically parses the due date and syncs it straight into your real Google Tasks list.

I also built a standalone Wear OS tile and complication so you can capture thoughts with a single tap on your wrist while walking.

It is live on Google Play with a free tier. Would love any honest feedback from fellow indie builders on the concept, onboarding, or positioning.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.serkankizilirmak.thoth&utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=indiebiz
