I don't think the squirrel will have to pay for the new window. The squirrel has nothing to regret.

Brings back memories of the time I used a biology textbook to squish a wasp on the window in my apartment. Spent 30 minutes moving all the glass pieces inside so I could claim it broke from outside.

Why is your window single pane?

Old house
Buying ~10 windows alone is gonna be like $5000 at least. With labor, add another $10k, and more for bigger windows like patio doors or 2nd story stuff and higher. You could do it yourself, but it would take FOREVER, and there's a ton of tiny details that matter, like where and how you install various pieces of trim, channels, sheeting, structure, etc. It needs to be installed correctly, obviously, but it also needs to not leak air or water indoors while also being able to drain and not hold any moisture or water from things like dew and rain. If you crack a frame, which isn't that hard to do, it also tends to destroy the seals so you now have a way for drafts to get in.
Basically, good windows are expensive. Good windows installed well are VERY expensive, and really difficult to do as a DIY project because of the size, weight, and technicalities involved. All of the windows on my house are single pane. I hate it, but they're gonna stay like that. The window frames get sealed in plastic for the winter.

Don't punch glass panes, shit is sharper than any knife. If you really have to, wrap your WHOLE arm up with leather, denim, or wool, then hold something with metal edges or use your palm to hit near the edges of the frame, cracks begin near the edges. Don't punch through it, just jab at it hard. If you send your arm through you might get sliced the long (bad) way.
Might save someone from a fire or something one day, I dunno. Not really much point in escaping the house if you end up bleeding out in the yard, anyway.

I just had storm windows installed luckily due to a grant, and ive been thinking... If firefighters have to get in, I sure hope it isnt difficult. And sure hope I don't need to get out in an instant lol.

My dad started replacing all the windows in his house 20 years ago and finally finished last weekend.

Way too real lol, literally every step of the process is an enormous chore. Even for new construction it's still not a good time.

Did you tell him his windows are 20 years old now and he needs to replace them? Poor guy. Never stood a chance.

Also in warmer countries where the temperature never falls before 15° there is no strict requirement for insulation. So the glass is flimsy but in India for e.g. we had a grill in the outside.

To be fair. I feel like a normal window should not have broken that easily.
Still dumb to punch a window, of course. But it didn't seem like they hit it THAT hard.

I mean those window feeders are usually meant for birds but squirrels constantly try to steal the food. Dude just wanted the squirrel to leave the bird food alone

u/happyhippy27 4d ago
There are much kinder ways to do that

u/Bandin03 4d ago
He did it the kind way. He just also happened to have a window that was meant for an action movie set.

He obviously was too aggressive with the pounding on the glass but knocking on the glass is an effective method

I dont get how older houses in other countries have like, single ply glass, from my childhood till now, you could throw your entire fist at the glass and the only thing you'd get is a hurting hand a scolding for being a moron
