u/Janul3 1d ago
Those go for more than $9k in China. I can't tell if that's mainland or Taiwan, but if it's mainland you have literally smuggle that shit into China, and it costs you more than $9k. For context you can get a byd car for less cost than one of those lol
For people that is literal unobtanium 'cus you won't have the connections to get it smuggled. This seems like a hell of a family flex lol

How much do think $9,000 invested in AAPL would be worth in 10 years?
More likely a lot higher than a 5090.
10
u/VinnieMcVince 1d ago
I understand your point, but I bought my whole PC, including a 5090, several years ago for $4300. It's wild (and unsustainable) how much ram and graphics cards have shot up. Can't wait for that bubble to burst.

The only thing cringe is hating on someone else's genuine expression of love.

Yeah it's always been bad but lately the amount of complaining, bitching, and buzzkilling feels even more extreme. Usually I can predict what sort of comments people will leave but lately I actually find myself surprised at what people manage to be miserable about.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Quick_Turnover 22h ago
Honestly it is probably because people are becoming more miserable and their commentary reflects it. We've lived through almost a decade of mudslinging political division, exhausting 24/7 outrage news, active wars in multiple countries, and what appears to be the rise of neofascism and the degradation of our social fabric thanks to capitalistic extraction of wealth by a few global elites, whose dumb fuckin faces we get to stare at every damn day because they keep opening their dumb mouths to spout some nonsense and pretend they're the second coming.
But, I agree that it's sad to see how our collective suffering is impacting our psyches. We can't enjoy a simple wholesome video anymore.

In my country a 5090 can be found between $6100 to $7199.
11
u/Exldk 1d ago
Conveniently leaving out the name of the country. I'd be willing to buy it and ship it to my house on the other side of the planet if I have to.
Heck, at these prices (and to avoid customs tax) it might be cheaper to literally fly down there, buy it and fly back home.
So I'm still interested in what mysterious country it is.

As someone married to a computer guy...some of the sweetest, most wholesome interactions he's had walk through the door are those of the computer geek couples who game together. The most recent one I can think of is a guy who had a pretty nice, but older computer and had spent all his money on upgrading his girlfriend's computer so she could game her brains out - and they came in because for his birthday, she had saved up money to upgrade his system so they could both game together at the same level. They are such a perfect pair and are now engaged.
I think that one problem a lot of relationships have these days is that people have forgotten how to play and to have fun together, to be friends. Gaming helps bridge that gap and keep the fun in the relationship, especially among neurodivergent people who struggle with neurotypical relationship interactions.
My husband isn't expressive with his words (he is autistic) but does a heck of a job keeping my computer up to snuff. Not with a 5090 but I'm not doing too badly over here lol.
All that to say that this 100% is a really sweet gesture from the bride to the groom. It's obvious that she knew exactly what would touch his heart and make him feel special. The day isn't just about them as a couple or her as a bride, it's also about celebrating each other on an individual level, and I think it's sweet. I have little doubt that she is thoroughly and deeply loved by this man and that it will be well reciprocated.
Women get the expensive rings, so I don't see what the problem is with men getting something valuable that they really desire in addition to their person 😄
3
u/mimich4ma 22h ago
There's something extra nice too about doing this during their wedding, which is always usually seen as the bride's day. It just seems ultra touching and nice

Speak for yourself. My wife rules. I get 2-5 hours of game time every day. And she always gets me gaming related gifts for birthdays and Christmas. She understands it's my hobby/passion and never belittles me about it. I'm 39 and we've been together 11½ years.
Edit: wow, this comment is getting a LOT of responses. Everyone keeps asking how I have so much time. So if you're curious, I'm a stay at home dad. I game at naps (1-2 hours) and at bedtime (1-3 hours). My wife naps when they nap and goes to bed shortly after they do. So I usually have plenty of time to myself.

u/Dutchie420x 1d ago
My husband and I game together! I don't understand the stigma of women "not allowing" their husbands to game. So silly to me!
15
u/Lethuul 1d ago
It’s not so much the way wife restricting you really, my wife don’t mind me gaming. But 2 kids that does sports, coaching, playing, friends it leaves maybe 2-3 hours a week for gaming tops.
Kids are the big detractor, not wives.
With that said it is totally self chosen, I’d rather spend 6 hours out in the cold coaching my daughters football team than spend that time gaming.

Same. I have a very stressful job and have trouble "unplugging" at the end of the day. If I do something more passive, like reading a book or watching a show, I inevitably find my self not actually relaxing but instead puzzling over a work issue.
My fiance loves that I can de-stress with an hour or two of games before I go to sleep.
