MISC. In 2015 a woman accidentally snorted 55 mg of pure LSD (equal to 550x a normal recreational dose), thinking it was cocaine. She "blacked out" for the first 12 hours & felt "pleasantly high" for the second 12. A day later her chronic foot pain ceased, leading her to eventually end her morphine habit.

According to the study. which was published last month by Mark Haden and Birgitta Woods, the 46-year-old woman overdosed on the hallucinogenic drug in 2015 after mistaking it for 55 milligrams of cocaine, CNN reported.
The LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) was in powder form. The recommended dose (although it is illegal in the U.S. and U.K.) for recreational use is 100 micrograms.
After taking the drug, the woman, referred to as CB in the text, blacked out and vomited for 12 hours straight, CNN reported.
After that, CB recalled feeling "pleasantly high" for the 12 hours that followed, despite still vomiting.
According to the study, CB's roommate recalled the 46-year-old sitting still in a chair, while tripping, with her eyes open or rolled back. She occasionally spoke, but what she said was not understandable.
Just 10 hours after that, CB was "coherent" and was back to holding conversations as normal.
However, it wasn't until the next day that CB noticed a change in her body.
During her 20s, CB was diagnosed with Lyme disease, a condition that badly damaged her foot and caused her to go through life with "significant pain," the study revealed, CNN reported.
After her LSD trip, CB realized her foot pain was gone and she was able to stop using morphine. The pain later returned, but she was able to keep it under control with a lower dose of morphine and a micro dose of LSD every three days.
By January 2018, CB was able to stop taking both morphine and LSD completely and had no withdrawals, the study stated, CNN reported.
While her pain disappeared, CB said she instead experienced anxiety, depression and social withdrawal, according to the study.

Pleasantly high while vomiting. Cool. Cool cool cool

u/Vukling 10h ago

Have you never been there? XD I once had a bit too much alcohol before doing a candy flip and...vyrah 😅 the booze had to go. I hated the two and a half rounds of vomiting, but I was still pleasantly high 😂

71

u/jambokk 8h ago

I vomited after taking DMT one time, but I experienced it as all of the badness leaving my body in a purple stream. It felt amazing.

15

u/boofskootinboogie 5h ago

lol I once blended up a few grams of mushrooms into a smoothie and proceeded to projectile vomit purple in my shower, I thought it was awesome at the time.

14

u/whileiminthisbody 6h ago

Yes just felt like my body was purging what it needed to.

14

u/satanlovesmemore 5h ago

Puking on shrooms was like getting a nice pat on the back to get it all out

6

u/DarkWorldOutThere 6h ago

Same, for me it was a rainbow stream tho lol

32

u/Kitchen-Invite-5123 10h ago

Definitely felt amazing while puking my guts up before from a similar combination, hard to explain😂

16

u/Vukling 10h ago

Right!? 😂 And you know our friend Molly likes to amplify some physical sensations... can't say i was too happy with the vomit coming up 😂 but I bounced back pretty quickly. Was more worried my dose didn't have time to absorb 🤣 also went well though

11

u/Natural_Bet_5665 8h ago

I looked back at my girlfriend who was holding my hair and said with a smile “you know, I’m puking, but it’s kinda okay”. It was definitely an interesting experience.

6

u/Canadianweedrules420 9h ago

That's why I champed it out swallowed my puke the last time I took mdma. But now that I have a decent lsd connect I haven't taken mdma since. I really enjoy the lsd so much more. I never feel like puking and I have no hangover the next day. Everytime i take mdma I'm hungover for 3 days. Acid for the win imo!!

11

u/iwee3 9h ago

Why do I keep hitting myself in the head with a hammer? Because it feels so good when I stop.

15

u/Brutal_Kindness 6h ago

I used to vomit every time at some point when I ate shrooms. It was almost as if my body was, like, “okay we’re done with these and not interested in further digestive processing. Here, you can have them back.”

But after I did, I felt pleasantly high. /anecdotal shrug

7

u/lightsonnooneishome 5h ago

I’m giggling but also deeply relating to how you anthropomorphized your body’s response.

8

u/notmentallyillanymor 3h ago

Shrooms are high in chitin, which is a tough protein that your body is really bad at processing. It's possible your stomach really is saying "ok I can't digest these, better get rid of them".

I have a friend who loves psychedelics but every time she takes one (we tried about a dozen) she pukes about 45 minutes in, then is perfectly fine for the rest of the trip.

She doesn't even get nausea or any unpleasant feelings, she just suddenly realizes it's time to go puke.

4

u/crazykewlaid 8h ago

Yeah it's like, egh I'm puking but, there's worse things, if you're buzzing all over then you're kinda like backseat puking? Especially if youve been drinking waterbeers then it's just like warm water coming out

Cured but now anxious and depressed. Cool. Cool cool cool

5

u/FixergirlAK 6h ago

Yeah, that last sentence is pulling some weight. I think I actually hate my anxiety more than I hate my chronic pain, though I realize that's an intensely personal decision.

I also react extremely badly to hallucinogens, but in a therapeutic setting that's not necessarily a deal breaker.

I do wonder if the microdose LSD without the bonkers loading dose would be effective in the pain management with less of the side effects. I know LSD was studied as a neuro-psych med at one time.

u/TheSickestToastie 9h ago

1985, the first time I smoked weed, I ate an entire bag of doritos. I spent the next hour or so laughing whole puking doritos it my nose and mouth.

In college I railed a huge line of ketamine thinking it was coke, I don't remember anything for 2 days.

3

u/Defiled__Pig1 8h ago

Ever took Molly? I threw up every time I peaked, and it felt amazing.

I mean thats the definition of a "bad trip" and she still pulled through like a champ and i knew people personally that went insane from couple hits.

Just goes to show that its not all dose related when it comes to psychedelics as far as it goes with how will you accept the trip and move on with it.

9

u/Honest-Prune-5517 8h ago

Legitimately had a friend who had a similar experience from a single tab.

Ive had stronger trips from a few tabs than I have from a dozen of the same batch.

Set and setting baby

5

u/Pretty-Cockroach6394 7h ago

One new year i was supposed to prepare sugar cubes with liquid acid for 9 of us. Long story short it was the last bottle from the batch i bought and it was different from others so it didn't drip predetermined 100mic drops but i had to squeeze drops to get em out so instead of dripping like 1/10th of the bottle i dripped our cubes with like 2/3rds of the bottle lol.

One of the most memorable nights even tho i dont remember half of it lol. Intensity and headspace was next level so i can understand how wild shit can get but hitting peak doses to remain functional in such groovy safe environment is just next level.

So she stopped focusing on her pain after it went away and started being able to focus on herself and for life and then the anxiety and depression about that came in and then those two factors being relatively negative caused some amount of social withdrawal.

Lsd is one of those drugs that he used to be studied but..........................

u/matmah 10h ago

The question is, where did she get 55mg of pure LSD powder from? Asking for a friend!

47

Any source here? I have consulted on cases where people have accidentally ingested huge amounts of LSD, a lot of them have lasting anxiety and mood issues. They seem to dissipate after months to years, but it’s not good.

LSD is largely safe- it’s not safe if you take 100-10000 times the dose.

I do not want anyone coming from this thread thinking this is a good idea. I have doubts this is a real story.

Edit: I see the source. This is an atypical response. Still have doubts. This amount of lsd is not a good idea kids.

u/Ghosty_Boo-B00 7h ago

If anything about this is real it’s the equivalent of the woman who jumped out of a plane and her parachute never opened but she landed in a pile of red ants and them biting her kept her alive and restarted her heart so she survived.

30

u/velahavle 6h ago

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/339234169_LSD_Overdoses_Three_Case_Reports

Its actually true, it happened to more than a one person, and 2 out of 3 people had positive effects in that case study. I remember reading an article long time ago where there were more like 8 to 10 such case reports with positive outcomes, but I cant seem to find it.

5

u/taso131 5h ago

There are substances that have different effects at widely different doses

Naltrexone is known to lessen the tolerance against opioids at ultra low doses (macrogram) while its administered at 20-30mg against alcohol cravings (200x dosing)

Speaking of 10000x the dose... there was a young (probably mentally ill) man who stole and drank an entire bottle of liquid LSD at a small local music festival where I grew up. He completely lost his mind and went missing for months. He was institutionalized when he was found.

That was 20ish years ago, I was 13 at the time. As I got older I learned more about the incident, and it sounds like the people who were there really failed him. I guess they were scared of being arrested but... they could have done more to help him. I've tried looking him up over the years, but his name is really generic. I hope he's at least... comfortable, if he's still out there.

11

u/Vhorbis 5h ago

Lsd doesn't make you crazy though. What we often end up seeing is underlying schizophrenia emerging through the lsd like a catalyst. Specifically in cases involving young people.

This is also the age where it starts to manifest in men normally.

Without knowing which man or story this is, I'd guess that this is what happened.

People with schizophrenia should not do psychedelics and as it's kinda a hidden condition until a break occurs, I never recommend young people or young adults do psychedelics. If you're in your 40s, you're likely fine as schizophrenia would normally present before then.

I am not a doctor, just a guy fascinated with how our minds work. The information i parroted might not be correct and I would like to be corrected if anyone had a source.

7

u/rudderlessbarge 4h ago

It was most likely underlying schizophrenia, yes. He had been showing signs of mental illness before the incident. Sadly it seems his condition was exacerbated past a point that could be treated normally.

6

u/Statertater 5h ago

There are other kinds of disorders that can present like schiz, like bipolar with psychotic features for instance

3

u/Commercial_Bridge253 5h ago

That's so sad :( when I was a festival recently this guy took something (presumably LSD though it hasn't been confirmed in that festivals community from what I know) and took just a little too much for him. He ended up in psychosis from an underlying psychiatric condition that he didn't know he had. I was there and witnessed him get tackled and pinned down by security at the main venue space.

I think about him probably way more than I need to. It was really weird and surreal watching it all go down and being so shaken while everyone else around seemed to not acknowledge what was happening at all. I remember being almost angry that no one else seemed to worried about him or affected at all by the situation. I had to go to the med tent for something later and saw another person completely losing it in there waiting for ambulance. They were given something that they had no experience with from what I overheard.

I love festivals and they can be so great but sometimes its devastating. I remember last year there was several nearly fatal OD's because something laced was going around the venue.

Its a widely known case report, but OP seems to be citing an incorrect source. The original case report was actually published in 1975.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1129381/

EDIT: I see a second source posted below, I stand corrected and apparently this has happened more than once.

5

u/skiforlife1 5h ago

A good friend came back from a festival in the 90s where he took a lot of lsd it may have been bad but the people with him even warned him to not take so much. He was mostly catatonic for at least a year after that. We would go visit him and sometimes he could say a few words but mostly just stared of vacantly. He finally recovered and was able to function but it was crazy to see. I've only had the usual 12 hour trip and a day to recover after so it was eye opening to see him like that.

2

u/aldencoolin 4h ago

Lsd can definitely trigger mental illness. It changes the way you way your brain works in a physical sense, and can also be quite intense, and even traumatic. Mental illness can be trigger by any trauma.

Tho, in my anecdotal experience at least, the folks who take heroic doses tend to be a bit unhinged to start with. People with mental illness, (especially untreated) do all sorts of wild things.

It's like, yes lying in bed for 2 weeks can cause depression -- but it's also a result of it. Similar, (to a lesser extent) with reckless pychedelic usage -- people who are thinking straight heed the warnings.

3

u/skiforlife1 4h ago

It typically speeds up the onset of underlying conditions from what I've read. Psychedelics are unlikely to cause mental illness where it doesn't already exist. Seratonin syndrome definitely happens with some psychedelics but even at high doses people don't typically develop mental illness unless it was already there to begin with.

4

u/OsteoStevie 6h ago

I feel like the only good thing to come of this is maybe there have been/will be more studies about how this affects the brain. My brother is a neuropharmacologist, and while he doesn't often talk about his job (the rest of the family didn't quite reach his intellectual level), he did mention that he wants to see funding for these studies.

This is one of the things that won't be recommended by doctors, just like the guy who had a fault in the brain, shot himself in the head, hit the spot that was faulty, and was fine after. Some things happens to work for someone, but will never be recommended by any doctor in history

4

u/Smart-Primary1860 9h ago

It didn't help her as much and the title is omitting information on purpose. Just read the detailed summary in the comments. She just replaced her morphine dependency with anxiety, depression and social withdrawal.

I’ve taken extremely high doses 10+ hits of lsd on literally hundreds of occasions, this is no exaggeration. It was endlessly at my disposal in my teens and 20s. I’ve also done insane amounts of heroic doses of mushrooms many many times I’m talking 10 plus grams minimum. The goal for me was always to meet and talk to god however hard I tried this never manifested. I never once had a bad trip or didn’t come back but I did see several other people not come back the same maybe somewhat slower or crazy, things effect people differently some people do a tiny bit once and are never the same others do it for a lifetime and don’t change at all. Anyway I’m an old man now and those days are long gone for me, I now sit and wonder when I read all horror stories on threads like this, is it a sign that god was with me all along?

75

u/toroidalsoul 4h ago

Interesting, I feel like the revelation possible through psychedelics is the idea that there isn't a separate God, that the entire universe is a single consciousness and any perception of separation is a temporary illusion.

Or as Bill Hicks put it:

All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves.

Mushrooms can get you to heaven.

It takes DMT to talk to God.

8

u/RuinedFamily 3h ago

As someone that did LSD 20+ times and mushrooms probably 30+. Dmt was such a entirely different animal, that it could be so vastly different. Those hours on LSD or shrooms was so predictable. The 20-30mins on DMT was different each time. I remember each of these trips through very specific moments. DMT has to be my favorite memory.

2

u/blacklabel22333 1h ago

Yea I have had plenty of interesting acid and shroom experiences that I vaguely remember. Most of it is a blur with a few fun memories. But I will never forget the night I finally "broke through" with DMT. It's something I will never forget. I even remember the rest of the night after the trip contemplating the info I was given from aliens/god's/interdimensional creatures. For the next week I was talking to anyone who would listen about the oneness and interconnectivity of all life.

After I broke through I gave away most of the DMT I had left because i didn't think I would need to do it again for a few years. It was a very impactful experience.

2

u/Common-Direction3996 52m ago

Tell me more about your experience!!! I've done it once but not sure if i "broke through" ...?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Frequent_Evening_445 1h ago

Try making a tea with 5 dried grams of mushrooms and you’ll see what I mean. Reality isn’t completely replaced, the Dmt realm fades in and out in a kind of superimposition. Which, IMO, is further evidence that psychedelics unlock some sort of autonomous, ultraconscious non-conscious, COLLECTIVE capacity that allows us to construct and experience a completely foreign universe (or dimension, I think that some refer to altered states of being that way, i.e. NDE, death, breaking through, etc) that supports a kind of simulation model, but not one controlled by some external force.

Anyway, I could bore the shiz outta you for 10 more chapters, but this isn’t my post, so I’ll spare you 😏 YW

8

u/Various-Grape-5071 4h ago

I don’t know if I talked to God, but I definitely solved all the world’s problems on my first acid trip. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to remember any of the answers. Even with subsequent trips

I’ve probably had as many trips, though only ~50 involved 10+ hits. Never had anything close to an experience that seemed outside of reality until doing a heroic dose of DMT; spent some time seeing the usual geometric visual patterns, then everything melted away and I heard a voice very distinctly tell me “for one so comforted by sound, you don’t listen well.”

Never had a similar experience with any other DMT trips after that, and I don’t believe it was god—probably just my imagination reacting to expanded self- and environmental awareness. All the same, very spooky and definitely had a profound impact on me at the time. Never seen any machine elves or marble aliens or any other entities that people sometimes report.

5

u/RobertPower415 4h ago

I’m still jumpy from a bad trip in my teens, decades later. I came back and am mostly still the same but I jump out of my skin at loud noises or really anything surprising due to being spooked while tripping. It’s honestly insane what it can do to one’s mind.

Don’t regret it and still indulge occasionally but I GREATLY prefer cacti over fungi now. Definitely important to be careful though ALOT of people underestimate psychedelics

5

You gotta do dmt if you wanna talk to god lol

2

u/Lagneaux 4h ago

I basically did the same with shrooms and cid, minus the thoughts of talking to a god. Kept taking more and more, chasing what I thought the stereotype of "tripping" was. Never got there.

Then I tried DMT, and realized "ooooo, THIS is what they were talking about". Didn't experience a god feeling, but I did experience what infinity feels like. Only time I was ever actually scared during a trip.

2

u/One-Reflection-4826 1h ago

maybe You are god?

3

u/Appropriate-Crab-379 1h ago

Tolerance goes sky high after a day on triptamines and takes 3-4 weeks to recover. Unless properly spaced 10 hits after a few in a row and 10 hits after 2 months of nothing at all hits very different.

As others said seek out DMT if you want to meet the gods

Best high I’ve ever had was after scranning a massive weed brownie

The first few hours of having to lie face down on the bed not moving inbetween very wobbly trips to the toilet to continuously empty the contents of my stomach that eventually progressed to just being sick whilst face down on the bed whilst the room I was in spun around to a point the imaginery gforces paralysed in me in place

Eventually gave way to an unbelievably enjoyable time where I was very content in my vomit soaked state

Would 100% not recommend

29

u/Ok_Bath_1252 9h ago

God.. been there, done that... never wanna do it again! Was off brownies too.

I wasnt aware how strong they were, so my stupid ass did the whole "man these are shit. I'll eat another whole one."

Spin spin spin spin vomit vomit vomit vomit.

Halfway in the spin cycle my roommate called saying she had a work accident and needed picked up from the ER.

I was like "you... are shit out of luck."

9

u/werewolfbutch874 8h ago

I get so worried about something like that happening when I get high! I was considering taking an edible one night and ended up deciding against it, and an hour later my mum was asking me to take her to A&E because she had suddenly started vomiting blood (which was terrifying but turned out to be nothing serious). If I’d taken the edible then my poor mum would have had to fork out for a taxi and I would have had to admit to her that I was under the influence, and she would really disapprove of me doing drugs lol.

4

u/Natural_Bet_5665 8h ago

My husband travels full time for work and we have 3 kids. I had never thought about it before but one night I’d had a few glasses of wine and one of the kids got hurt and needed to go to the ER. I had to call someone to take him because I couldn’t drive. I don’t drink on nights my husband isn’t home anymore.

2

u/Ichgebibble 7h ago

My husband passed so now I have to wait for my kid to be at a sleepover to tie one on. It sucks so bad

4

u/Natural_Bet_5665 7h ago

Sorry for your loss. I wasn’t even drunk really! Just at that point where I knew I wouldn’t pass a breathalyzer. I probably could have been okay driving in a normal situation but add my kids in a normal situation and that’s a no go. And me in a bit of a panic and my kids, that’s a fuck no go.

6

u/AlterEgo96 8h ago

Y’know… the taxi part, ok, would suck, but isn’t there a point where you just say “You disapprove of anything you like, I’m an adult?” I’m not here to encourage you to try drugs if you don’t want to be high, man. Don’t. Just… you don’t have to make your adult decisions based on what Mom will do if she finds out.

Damn I’ve been there with a peach ring I got at a dispensary. The guy handed me the peach ring and I ate it before he said you’re only supposed to take half if you’re a daily smoker….. I was like oh 💩 and my friend took half. We were out of town riding our electric bikes downtown and the sidewalk started floating lol we had to pull over and have my husband bike all the way back to the campground (with kids in a bike trailer) and come pick us up with a truck to haul our bikes back. My friend puked her guts up, but after about an hour, it was a great for me. My husband and I made s’mores with the kids by the campfire and painted pumpkins (Halloween). She stayed sick until she went to bed when u gave her a phinegran (can’t spell)

Another funny part of the story was my kids were little then and we had that bike trailer so they rode behind my husband. When they got back to pick us up my friend was quite but giggly. They said “what’s wrong with ____” I said her tummy hurts. They said “oh yea my tummy hurts when I eat too much candy too ___” god that was so funny and such a fun night. Well for me anyways.

I've seen this many times and I don't believe it. I saw someone take a vial of acid once and they were straight tripping for like 3 days. There is no way she felt "pleasantly high" within 12 hours of ingestion

33

u/keegums 5h ago

She went to the hospital along with others at this party who also ODed, several having seizures, where they were certainly administered benzodiazepines and other supportive care medicines for blood pressure, seizures and other symptoms. The benzos would have taken the psychedelic effects down massively, especially ones like diazepam which are fairly longer acting (100 hour half life for one metaboite)

16

u/CompetitiveCut1457 5h ago

Had a buddy accidentally swallow a whole vial.

Fucked him for life. Made him go literally insane. Due to other poor choices after that, hes been in prison for life since like 2007

She snorted it, and usually snorting stuff makes it last less. I'm not sure about the bioavailability of nasal lsd

3

u/XDreadzDeadX 5h ago

Even if its 5% thats 55x a normal dose, I believe its higher than that, and some is ending in the stomach anyways via the drip making it significantly higher than 55x rec doses. A bump of cid would wreck someone for days. I know someone who took 1mg/ml nasally of liquid in a supposed 99% suspension and tripped hard enough to give himself HPPD. He almost killed himself multiple times. 2 separate times i had to stop him by force with a gun in his mouth. I dont believe someone snorted 55mg and was fine a full 24hrs later. Thats bullshit

2

u/Wrong_Rest8283 5h ago edited 5h ago

Well the definition of “pleasantly high” can vary pretty wildly with LSD, so can one’s “hard headedness ” (the psychedelic impact of a dose” as can the purity of LSD. This is all believable although the lack of any source of first person account makes me skeptical.

Though most of the time a large dose hits a peak effect and the excessive amounts just extend the duration. However LSD tolerance grows very rapidly so it’s conceivable that she’d developed some immunity to the psychedelic states during the second half. The whole
Thing is plausible but probably not likely

I agree, however it's not like she took a few extra tabs, she took the equivalent of hundreds of tabs. There is no fucking way she was chillin 12 hours later

6

u/LongjumpingJaguar308 5h ago

As someone said above, half life is half life and if you took more, you are still in the effects zone instead of microdose zone if you still have half of it going because you took more.

I agree not always but sometimes it did for me, there were times I took 3 tabs and it did last 12-16h instead of 8 like usual.

All the same batch but spaced so I didn’t build tolerance.

3

u/Substantial-Emu5745 5h ago

I’ve had 1 hit trips last up to 15. And I’ve had 3 hits last 12 but LSD was never done for me in less than 12, psilocybin was 8-10 didn’t matter how much I took. Definitely prefer the mushies, they didn’t emotionally sap me for days after dropping.

I’m getting a flashback just reading this. Seriously. Because the picture above is of a coin from 1990 and the summer of 1990 is the first time I ever did acid. What an incredible trip it was. I stayed up for about 30 hours and I completely short-circuited about 15 years of therapy in two days. I immediately became more outgoing and ever since then have never felt the same kind of shyness that I suffered from growing up as a child.

One drug. One time. Life-changing for the better.

The drug companies do not want to cure people. They want to addict people - that’s the business model.

17

u/DerKleinerKiffer 9h ago

I took LSD (or maybe it was the mushrooms) to cure my cluster headaches. I remember reading a paper on it as a teen, then finally could get my hands on some as an adult.

Was over a decade ago when I did it, and the cluster headaches have stayed away without needing to redose. Its been a godsend

3

u/plantpoweredalex 8h ago

I’ve come across quite a few ppl in the cluster headache subreddit who take mushrooms

40

u/9447044 10h ago

Title left out that she continued vomiting and was incoherent for the latter 12 hrs.

Shes also still taking morphine for her foot pain just less of it now.

24

u/Isario 10h ago

It says in the text that by January 2018 she was able to stop taking both and had no withdrawals. But while her pain disappeared, she instead experienced anxiety, depression and social withdrawal.

4

u/tXcQTWKP2w92 9h ago

She stopped and no withdrawal just makes no sense, either she was dependant on it and went through it or not, it doesn't disappear cuz of a high dose acid trip?!

7

u/Sharp-Sky64 9h ago

Opioid withdrawal is extremely variable. You can do not much of a weak opioid and get horrific withdrawal. You can do a lot of a strong opioid and get (comparatively) mild withdrawal.

It also has nothing to do with dependence, other than the inverse (fear of withdrawal causing dependence)

2

u/Kitchen_Law_9048 9h ago

Any tips?

5

u/Sharp-Sky64 9h ago

For when you’re in withdrawal?

Loperamide agonises opioid receptors peripherally. It’s extremely useful in reasonable doses.

Cold showers are a bonus

This amount of LSD is insane. Her mind will have been flooded with serotonin for 24 hours straight until there was nothing more her mind could give. I bet she was completely mentally shattered and had to reboot. LSD can form new neurological connections which make old ways of thinking redundant, but in this case, I'd say it was good fortune. Nice to know LSD can't kill you, glad she had a good trip.

47

u/blueskies3615 8h ago

LSD is not a serotonin releasing agent, instead a partial agonist at specific serotonin receptors. Thus it does not “flood” the brain with serotonin. Instead, it binds to the 5-HT2A receptors with strong binding affinity, essentially “mimicking” serotonin. Oversimplification but still.

If it caused substantial serotonin release, a dosage such as this would have likely been fatal via serotonin syndrome.

9

u/BroccoliSubstantial2 8h ago

Ah yes, I forgot about that. I was at the barbershop at the time.

Either way, max serotonin the receptors could muster.

7

u/Training-Common1984 7h ago

Did you also have an onion on your belt, as was the style at the time?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/blueskies3615 7h ago

All good, your points still stand about neurogenesis, plasticity and maximal occupancy at the receptors :)

2

u/muhdrugs 7h ago

No, max LSD saturation the serotonin receptors could achieve (because it is serotonin-shaped), no serotonin released. (I realize this isn’t everyone’s special interest)

2

u/blueskies3615 6h ago

Good to see someone with the same special interest haha. Wish it was a more common interest.

2

u/muhdrugs 6h ago

There are dozens of us! Lol

14

u/Hail_of_Grophia 9h ago

And ain’t no way that trip and come down only lasted 24 hours. I still felt the residual for 48-72 hours on a few tabs

4

u/Whole_Mongoose1854 7h ago

I’ve done some extremely large doses of lsd(I don’t recommend it) and been around others do the same. Her experience doesn’t track at all with how that drug scales up in my experience. I think people just assume big enough dose, it stops being the same drug? I mean, I guess. Drugs tend to get wonky at super high doses but usually it’s like, additional bad effects come in, you still tend to get plenty of the usual stuff. I think it’s likely something is off with this story, obviously I can’t know for sure.

2

u/Whoppertino 6h ago

I agree something doesn't sound quite right with this story - but it may just oversimplification and translation through an inexperienced medical professional. Inexperienced in terms of the subjective effects of LSD...

2

u/Whole_Mongoose1854 6h ago

Yes that seems possible. I truly have no idea what is missing from this story, I’m only pretty confident something is. Could be the dose was mis reported or misunderstood somewhere, bad(impotent( lsd. Hell she could have been so traumatized she just didn’t want to talk about it so lied. Trauma is more along what I’d expect. High doses of lsd and really most hallucinogenic drugs can make for a horrific experience.

2

u/CantaloupeShort2382 6h ago

Yea I don’t believe this story!! She wouldn’t be ok and only trip 24 hours. The whole story is off!!

3

u/muhdrugs 8h ago

LSD doesn’t flood your brain with serotonin, it is roughly serotonin-shaped and binds to the serotonin receptors, but it isn’t a releaser

Had a buddy squirt a whole dropper tube, which would be equivalent to about a whole sheet. He tripped for 3 days straight, through two summer football practices.

9

u/Necessary-Lack-4600 9h ago

Didn't the inventor of LSD did the same thing when testing his first dose at his office, panicked, and then took a bike ride home to safety?

17

u/Realcomeguardian 9h ago

Albert Hoffman and yes but he took a more humane amount. I think it was somewhere In the 100 microgram range which is a pretty normal recreational dosage. But his thinking was more like "let me do an allergy test because nothing is really active in those dosages" well turns out LSD is super potent and guy tripped so yeah he took his bike, drove home tripping (so the day where it was discovered is now called bicycle day), he then reported seeing his neighbour as a demonic figure and everything being very funky but also quoted to have felt great the next day(s) and directly kinda discovered the therapeutical potential which is also the reason why they already experimented with it for mental disorders in like the 50s (also tried to replicate schizophrenia and realised schizophrenia is dopamine and not serotonin related)

2

u/UncomfrtblyConscious 9h ago

If this is true, she’d be tripping for a long long time! I knew somebody that accidentally had three sheets (about 300 hits) absorb into his skin and he’s still Trippin. His name is Window Dave cause he just stares out the window all day….

12

u/Disastrous-Expert- 8h ago

I accidentally took 8 once. I didn’t realise the trips were 4 each. Plus I had done a few grams of speed. It was outside a rave, I remember everything starting to melt, nothing for about 12hrs. A mate took me outside to an ambulance apparently. They had no idea what to do with me. I was tripping for 4 days straight, no sleep, but weirdly I would not accept the fact I was tripping, I thought it was all real. I was 14

Wait what!?

6

u/Onelivestoblunder-CD 8h ago

For clarification this was a common rumor/urban legend everyone heard back in the late 90's early 00s.

You always had someone in a social circle who indirectly knew this guy who did too many hits of acid (usually absorbed through the skin) and went crazy in some way. The person I replied to heard the Window Dave story. I heard the version of the person went crazy and was in a psych ward believing they were a glass of Orange Juice that was afraid of being spilled.

It went along with Marilyn Manson having his ribs removed to give himself fellatio and Marilyn Manson being Paul Pfeiffer from the 80s show The Wonder Years.

I always wondered how the LSD story started. I wonder if it was DARE trying to scare kids away from trying LSD or if someone's cousin just liked messing with kids as we were gullible back then.

3

u/SadYogiSmiles 7h ago

Yeah there was a guy in my town obviously strung out and the rumor was he was dosed at a high school party and was neverrrrr the same after it.

Reality is he fell into hard drugs and was actively smoking meth.

I genuinely recall being told this urban legend in the early 90's.

How bizarre memories are that when the poster above mentioned the orange juice my brain brought me back 35 years.

2

u/WifeGivingMeSideEyes 7h ago

Yeah the variation I heard was that he wrapped himself in bedsheets and freaked out when people tried to remove them; he thought he was an orange and people were trying to peel him.

2

u/Disastrous-Expert- 7h ago

Yes, we certainly did. Also in the 90s. This one chap did a million trips and has never come back etc. Didn’t put any of us off

2

u/Onelivestoblunder-CD 6h ago

It put me off for awhile (I was definitely young, gullible, and sheltered), then I heard a different version (teapot version) and figured out I was being messed with. Then I tried LSD in my late teens and was fine.

2

u/Sad_View5940 2h ago

There’s a lot of variations of this tall tale. That mythological guy might be the most famous man in modern history! Some say it was that bike ride home in the rain that got him. Damn LSD is always inadvertently seeping into people’s skin! It’s a real epidemic.

I do have a REAL funny story like this though. I have a friend who took a novel dissociative MXE (like ketamine but waaaaay stronger) and he actually turned into a turtle. He was found on one of the benches at Red Rocks, stuck on his back (his shell) and couldn’t roll over. He was just rigid/stuck there. He recalls believing he was a turtle and feeling like he was stuck on his back,

He came out of it a couple days later…
