MISC. A Virginia man inadvertently left his phone recording while he was under anesthesia for a colonoscopy, which captured audio of the doctors: mocking him, instructing a medical assistant to lie to him, and discussing giving him a false diagnosis of hemorrhoids. In 2015, a jury awarded him $500,000.

Not like the WHO doesn’t have studies proving the link or anything. The rub is what type of food exactly increases risk.

Red and processed meat in particular and a lack of fiber and lack of fruits and vegetables. People eat horrible diets in the US especially.

These conversations inevitably lead to people saying how impossible it is to even eat 25-30 grams of fiber a day. That’s like a bowl of oatmeal with berries, an apple, a medium sized salad, and like two slices of whole grain bread. Any diet that’s not basically exclusively processed junk food will provide adequate fiber.

Exactly! People obsess over things like protein, but it’s fibre that people need to address.

I actually try to eat a ton of fiber due to having high cholesterol. Its not as simple as eating oatmeal, an apple and salad. You actually have to eat like 5-6 large meals of nothing but high fiber veggies to even get close to 25g. Thats why many of us supplement with psyllium husks. Even that has risks because it contains naturally occuring arsenic due to the fact that its grown in soil.

But yes, generally speaking we should all be focused on eating more fiber. Currently people are more focused on eating a lot of protein. We as humans need more fiber than we do protein. Hopefully the diet fads catch up and start promoting fiber rich diets.

Where are you getting that info?
1 cup oats = 8 grams of fiber
1 cup mixed berries = 4-5 grams of fiber
1 apple = 5 grams of fiber
Medium salad = 5-8 grams of fiber depending on what’s in it
2 slices whole wheat bread = 4-8 grams of fiber depending on brand

Not that hard and doesn’t require 6 meals of a ton of veggies

A cup of dry oats is actually a ton, I usually do 1/3 cup with banana and cinnamon and it’s plenty

1/3 cup of oats and a banana is barely 250 calories. I’d be starving after an hour

A quick google search 🤷‍♀️

First, you want to be sure to search for soluable fiber. Insoluable fiber doesn't have the same benefit as soluable fiber, but it does have some benefits. But the number I use in meal prep really focuses on soluable fiber (as instructed to me by my dietician). Here is a quick google search for the foods you listed above:

This combination provides approximately 3.4 to 4.4 grams of soluble fiber in total.

Breakdown by Item

• 1 cup cooked oatmeal: Contains about 2.4 grams of soluble fiber (roughly half of its total 4 grams of dietary fiber, driven by beta-glucan). • 1 cup mixed berries: Contains about 0.5 to 1.1 grams of soluble fiber (depending on the exact mix of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries; total dietary fiber for 1 cup is usually around 3 to 5 grams, with soluble fiber making up a smaller portion). • 1 cup side salad (lettuce, tomatoes, and carrots): Contains about 0.3 to 0.5 grams of soluble fiber (a standard plain veggie side salad provides roughly 1 gram of total fiber, with only a fraction being soluble).

Estimated Total Soluble Fiber

• Low end: ~3.2 grams • High end: ~4.0 grams If you'd like to increase the soluble fiber in this meal, you can easily add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds or flaxseeds, which can add another 1 to 2.7 grams of soluble fiber.

Edit: I forgot to include the apple and wheat bread but the soluable fiber totals are anywhere between 2g-4g if I can recall correctly.

When you have people thinking that eating healthy is to take a diet coke with their ranch soaked salad and some Taco Bell (because it has "vegetables") you don't really need to be a scientist to know what type of food is not helping.

Anyway, people prefer coping by claiming you can be fat and healthy and continue eating shit while shooting themself with Ozempic wondering why it's not working for them.

it’s the processed type

Processed type of what?

processed type of food, but americans can't comprehend that information

It’s more that there’s no good definition of “processed.” Butchered cattle for a T-bone steak? Processed. Chopped salad? Processed. The only think that isn’t processed is when you take something out of the ground, wash it, and eat it raw.

We have a quite good definitions. Don't bullshit people.
