This looks like something that distracts you in Star Wars while a monster the size of the Millennium Falcon sneaks up on you. 👀

Does that also make it the smallest mammal ?
•

No, the Etruscan Shrew (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etruscan_shrew) weights only 1.8g.
By body length, it is the Kitti's hog-nosed bat (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitti's_hog-nosed_bat) at 29–33 millimetres in length.

TIL. Didn't even know shrews weren't assimilated to the rodent family, interesting stuff !

From the wiki page.
The shrew has such a fast metabolism
It will starve to death in four hours
four hours without eating and it dies

Can someone tell me why rodents have such long tails? Like how did this evolve? They seem cumbersome

u/Sober_Alcoholic_ 13h ago
They use it as a balance point to keep balance/centered, particularly while maneuvering. Among other things.
Humans still have tailbones. It’s apart of mammalian heritage and evolution.

If you hand the dude doing your IVF a $50 usually you can have him CRISPR the tail genes back in it’s fucking sick my sons tail is like 8ft long. Makes baby-proofing a nightmare though because he can grab stuff off of counters with it real easy.

Also looks like the oldest rodent in the world. Like he needs a little rodent cane and an early dinner.
