I looked him up one time and found he has his own channel where he has several videos of him saving babies like that. Just that one particular video went viral a few times. The dude is a legend. Dr. Islam Eldeh

My partner came from money but they don’t share it and he doesn’t have any which is fine. His mom proudly told me about working for Bernie Madoff so it’s all ill gotten gains anyways. What’s struck me as interesting though is that I was the child of teenagers and grew up in a house full of domestic violence, dysfunction, and drugs/alcohol, while my partner had nannies and family vacations.
At the end of it all, we’re very similar people due to our own neurodivergence and lack of trust and relationship with our parents. We both struggle with depression and feeling lost. His parents think they did everything right and he just turned out badly despite it all, but if my parents did everything wrong and I turned out “okay” despite my upbringing then how else are we to understand the impact of his unloving, wealthy family? The results were the same.

I’m sorry I don’t come to Reddit for comments that make me re-evaluate my childhood but here we are

The doctor is Egyptian I’ve seen his other videos. Egypt is an incredibly poor country, this child will have a lot to overcome in their lifetime.

My ex- had a waterbirth (not for fancy-schmany hippie reasons, but because she wasn't allowed a lot of drugs, had disabilities which gave her joint problems, and due to some poor genetics she was more immune to anaesthetics than most people).
My daughter came out like this but far more relaxed. The doctors literally had to rough her up with a towel after a few minutes because although they didn't think there was anything wrong, they MUST hear a cry to check lung function, etc. And even that little cry was the most half-hearted "I'm sleeping here!" murmur that you've ever heard in your life. Doctor just shrugged, wrapped her back up and let her sleep.
No wailing, even at the moments of birth, just went straight back to sleep for the next however-many hours. I carried her around for a couple of hours, while mum was attended to and put onto a ward, and there wasn't a sound from her.
Now, though, she's 18. Same attitude towards relaxation, but not nearly so quiet...
•
u/PeteLangosta 5h ago
Just to point out, a water bith shouldn't be considered as being hippy or dangerous... as far as people take the needed precautions and are well assesed by their midwife or obstetician beforehand.
•
u/zoolou3105 2h ago
My local hospital has a birthing pool for woman who want a birthing pool and to give birth at hospital! Really cool
•
u/Mediocre_Sprinkles 1h ago
My local hospital has an entire suite of 4 individual rooms for water births! All equipped with massive tubs, Bluetooth speakers, birthing balls, beds for dad etc.
Us C-section women just got shoved in a basic ward shared with 4 other women...
Guess which rooms they showed us in the tour?

Your ex sounds like she has hypermobile Ehlers danlos syndrome. If she isn’t already diagnosed, do her a favor and tell her to take a look at the diagnostic sheet: https://www.ehlers-danlos.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/hEDS-Dx-Criteria-checklist-1.pdf

Kind of sad you feel the need to apologise for and justify her decision to have a water birth.

•
u/smothered-onion 8h ago
I had to get ultrasounds every week or 2 and have so many of my baby in a thinking man’s position lol. He still sleeps like that sometimes too much older :) also quite the philosopher
•
u/EnvironmentalLime464 6h ago
She will probably sleep like that as an adult as well. Around the time most people stop swaddling babies, my kid started not being about to sleep without being swaddled. I ended up swaddling them until damn near a year old. As soon as I stopped swaddling them, they figured out how to swaddle themself. At 21 years old, they still swaddle themself when they sleep. They look like a burrito in the morning.

I often sleep like Dracula. On my back, hands crossed across my chest and legs crossed at my ankles. It weirds me out a bit when I wake up like that. Not to mention weirding out my partner.

It’s crazy to look at someone and think “How old is that person? He’s 15 minutes old.”
My car journey this morning was longer than he’s been alive.
•
u/Lunakill 7h ago
It’s extra wild when you’re the mom. Like “this little dude is two hours old and before that he was the little shit kicking my ribs?! How did he fit? What the fuck?!”
•
u/Working-Mountain6680 3h ago
Last week i was in the hospital for something. My doctor came in for a C section of another mom. The nurse brought the newborn right from the OT in the doctor's office while I was in the adjacent room. So she asked me if I wanted to see the baby girl. I said yesss!! I saw the baby for 2 minutes and then the nurse took her away.
Next day I'm telling my family, i saw a 10 minute baby. They're looking at me like....what do you even mean.
•
u/skr0369 8h ago
Ahh ... the same doc who saved the baby ( i am sure many..)

According to my parents, I immediately peed on the doctor and then they laid me on the table to be cleaned up and I flipped over to my stomach, they flipped me back over to my back and I immediately flipped back to my stomach.

According to my Mom, when I was born, I came out with a full head of hair, screaming and crying, and then nearly fell off the scale when the nurse was weighing me because I was rolling around so much.
I came into this world screaming, fighting, and with a fabulous head of hair, and I plan on leaving this world the same way

Very cute but what I find interesting is that the same doc has been on few viral videos ! Maybe he set the baby’s position as such , which is still impressive as babies don’t usually stay still that much (at least mine didn’t) .
