The weirdest piece of meat I've ever seen in my life at the supermarket
•
u/RedHeadedPatti 2h ago
It is a camel leg or possibly an ox - there's a tray of ox tails next to it.
- On human legs, there's either zero or next to zero tissue in front of the shin.
- If it was human, all of the calf muscles would have to be tightly contracted to hold the foot in that position - and they are not.
- The kneecap is not as distinct as it would be on a human leg.
- The muscles on the thigh are wrong for a human leg.
- The "foot" is one solid piece and not multiple bones.

u/uselessTamburine 2h ago
I'm weirdly uncomfortable with the knowledge you have xD
•
u/quirkelchomp 1h ago
This is just regular zoologist knowledge. Veterinarians come from the same schooling
•
u/Chaotic_Alea 2h ago
well, you need a butcher to answer this question or, you know... a surgeon who know anatomy well

Fyi, ox = beef. An ox is a castrated bull used as a plow/work animal. Oxtail can come from any cattle, though it's almost never from an ox.

Not to mention, even if the calf was contracted, it wouldn’t be that high up on a human leg in regard to the knee. Also agree on the guess of an ox or camel.

Long pork

How glad I am that my mind wasn’t the only one to go down that road cannot be overstated

I hope this isn't the answer 😂
•
u/DavidHoggsDong 2h ago
Long pork / pig is from Fiji, the term was a translation of local expressions like puaka balava (meaning "long pig")humans since apparently human and pig taste strikingly similar according to them.
•
•
•
u/JuliansWhiskey 1h ago
Yes and "long" because the meat appears just like the pig meat but is lengthier.
•
u/SpookyKid94 39m ago
They reference this in the hannibal show and I had no idea what they were talking about

They taste very similar, but old humans are quite gamey. All humans apparently are much more fatty.

someone with a random deep knowledge in meats to explain what we are looking at?
•
u/No_Hunt2507 2h ago
It's very likely goats leg, it just looks odd since it's not broken down. That bottom piece is a hoof, not a foot
→ More replies (2)•
u/OhYeahSplunge4me2 2h ago
That’s one tall-ass goat!
•
•
u/EnoughLuck3077 2h ago
You’re probably right. With a leg that long, it’s ass has got to be up there

Of course, I'm a butcher. Judging by the length and shape, I'd say it's a human leg.

Butcher here it’s 100% not from any animal I have ever seen.
As far as i remember this was a news story and the guy who owned the butchers shop was questioned about killing somebody.
- I copied that Comment from above, written by u/ImposterSyndromeNope
•
u/DangleenChordOfLife 1h ago
Butcher as well and I'm pretty shocked at that, I've never seen any animal foot or calf like that.

Lmao. When I was a kid I watched Titanic with my mom and when Jack showed Rose his drawing of the one-legged prostitute I asked my mom what a prostitute was. She said “It’s someone who sells their body” and for years I totally thought she sold her leg for money 😂

u/SheWasAlwaysJody 2h ago
I too had a literal child. When he was 4, he sobbed when I said, "It's raining cats and dogs outside. Better be careful, you don't want to step in a poodle." Because he was afraid someone would step on a poor dog.

If you have the balls to use Google search, try searching for “Tomohon Meat Market.”
Nsfw btw

u/Boobpocket 2h ago
I mean cows, pigs, sheep and other animals we normalized eating are as cute and intelligent as dogs and cats. Cows are literally big dogs
•
u/iLikeMangosteens 2h ago
I used to live in a place that had goats. They are the smartest, sweetest animals. Also quite tasty TBH.

Most meat eaters prefer the cognitive dissonance of pretending the meat they choose to eat is somehow more moral.
I'm a meat eater and just accept that we're murderous creatures.

Can you give me a description without being gory??
Edit: it’s nothing like I thought. No cannibalism or anything. Just the non traditional meats humans dont eat most places. Dogs, cats, bats, etc. The BBC article was kind of interesting on it. But yeah, I don’t think I’ll be trying it despite how good they claim the spices and pastes that go on these meats are.
•
u/the_original_kermit 1h ago
It’s not terribly graphic. But they have cats and dog for sale as meat. Both alive (in cages) and processed.

They don’t sell dog n cat anymore banned in 2023,.. more optics due to public safety re disease and covid than animal cruelty

Need banana for scale, but I guess either sheep or goat leg. I think what's called "leg of lamb" is smaller.
•
u/Biff_666 1h ago
Very good skinning if it is a human leg, almost looked like it was de-sleeved rather than piece by piece

Anyone who thinks they're selling a human leg at the supermarket is a compete moron.

The label next says Pakistan beef shoulder so my guess is that's what it is, they resemble this shape, the human leg has a hip joint that runs out a little not straight as an arrow.

We've never needed a butcher in the comment section more than we need a butcher right now.
