Barbara Bush, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, donated to a political action committee that supports state Rep. James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate for Texas, according to campaign finance records.

The 2026 third quarter report to the Federal Election Commission for Lone Star Rising PAC shows a donation from the younger Barbara Bush in the amount of $2,500, dated Sept. 23.

"I would imagine that somebody in such a prominent political family, if she wanted to ensure that her contribution was anonymous or not visible, that any number of lawyers that they probably have at their disposal could have told her how," said Andrew Cates, a political attorney and campaign finance expert based in central Texas. "She didn’t give it to a [501] (c)(4), in which her contribution would have been completely anonymous. She gave it to a PAC that reports all the money in and out."

Cool. He should win. It's in his bones and he says things that really make us all question our trajectory and I like him for being Christian. That is a big step from someone that has plenty of religious trauma and indoctrination. He knows what he is saying speaks the truth and stand up for humans.

I like him for being Christian

I don't, but I also don't dislike him for it, so it's a wash. Seems like a decent guy with some good ideas so I hope he does well.

As a non-christian in texas, the fact that he's a pastor is a huge plus regardless of my personal feelings. We're part of the bible belt, a non-christian non-republican would never have a chance. Talarico checks a lot of the boxes to make him palatable to normal texans (especially rural), regardless of the smear campaigns going on. It says a lot that the only thing republicans can do is make shitty ai ads about how he will arrest parents for not supporting trans kids and dumb factually incorrect stuff like that.

I'm an atheist, but I'd sure love to see Christianity taken back from fucking lunatic fascists.

I'm also an atheist in Texas, it's nice to actually see a Christian that tries to practice what they preach and do what the Bible says to do to spread the "good news," which is usually just being a decent person.

I didn’t know there was a Barbara Bush the daughter. Thought the former First Lady was donating from beyond the grave.

The DOJ will probably try and invalidate the election because Barbara Bush voted

I heard on good authority that she was attending a Hawks game in Atlanta at the time.

this is Ws kid... Ws wife is Laura... Babs was named after her Grandma...

11

u/powerlesshero111 6h ago

Jenna was named after the other grandmother. Kind of funny how Barbara is actually a teacher in Texas. Probably explains why she is donating to Talarico.

Seriously ~ I thought, "She's still alive?!"

Anyway, hoping for the best for Texans to elect someone who is interested in their well-being and not picking their pockets while treating them like shit.

Seriously. I saw the name, and my first thought was I thought she died.

Maybe they don't know, but it's actually possible to give your kids a different name from yours.

u/eekamouse4 5h ago

She has her grandmothers name.

I just know in my heart that George and Laura are voting Blue in Texas….they can’t possibly support what we have now.

u/enunymous 15h ago

I'm pretty sure George did a fundraiser for Republicans a couple weeks ago in Texas, though I don't think Paxton was involved

There could be nuance to which Republicans he supports or not... I could see him supporting some Republicans but not Paxton.

I can't imagine a worse senate candidate than Paxton, it's as if the GOP was trying to lose the Senate race by nominating the single most corrupt Texan they could find.

This. My stepdad is a staunch Republican. When the orange dude came around I was worried how much worse the discord would get between us. He hates him and we finally are having real conversations. We fought so much while Bush 2 was in office. Man, I miss those days of the normal Republicans.

15

u/nelsonalgrencametome 12h ago

I was in a similar position with my dad. Him and my stepmother were lifelong republicans until 2016, and bemoaned that they had to vote for a Democrat for the first time in their lives because they found trump so repulsive and incompetent.

2

u/BaronGrackle 11h ago

And here we are, a decade later...

4

u/Bad_Idea_Hat 10h ago

My dad was a republican for a long time, but had also both distrusted and disliked donald trump for decades. So, imagine his reaction to trump getting the nomination.

Now he refuses to vote for that party. Exactly what I did, just about two decades later than me.

Nothing is better than being able to know your family is good still. It's always nice to have political conversations as long as you can have those with people who live in reality.

12

u/enunymous 12h ago

Anybody who is still a Republican remains complicit with Trump and the MAGA agenda. He is the party and the party is him. He would sooner burn the party down than tolerate dissent in the ranks

4

u/SoFloMofo 10h ago

He's already burned the Republican party down and they're just now starting to realize it.

There is this weird nostalgia on Reddit recently for Republicans of old like W wasn’t a war criminal and didn’t push forward the Patriot Act which severely limited our liberties

2

u/lu5ty 9h ago

Yea that comment being at the top just shows how delulu most redditors are. You think bush is a vote blue no matter who guy? Lmao give me a break

4

u/fourdoglegs 14h ago

Well that’s disappointing….

24

u/NonReality 14h ago

Did you actually think anything different would happen? Are we white washing Bush now?

8

u/Jsmith0730 13h ago

Reddit has been whitewashing Dubya for years, at least since the pictures of him and Michelle Obama hangout.

7

u/SpinningHead 13h ago

GW helped us down this road

9

u/TattooedBagel 14h ago

Laura, probably. W continues to suck.

14

u/computer-magic-2019 13h ago

But he paints portraits of the soldiers he sent into an illegal war and who got maimed for life!

Doesn’t that absolve him of all wrongdoing?!

1

u/cuse23 8h ago

lmao buddy you should learn some history about the bushes

10

u/theotherscott6666 12h ago

a bush with a brain!

2

u/howdoireachthese 9h ago

Giving West Wing vibes, where President Bartlett’s daughter intentionally donated the personal legal limit to Congressman Matt Santos despite the President maintaining neutrality

u/bdan13 13h ago

They did the math wrong on that form. 1k + 1k + 2.5k = 3.5k?!?

3

u/mynameisstacey 10h ago

The $1000 in Box B isn’t included in the total. To the right, there’s a *Memo noting that it was earmarked through ActBlue. Lonestar PAC is reporting it as a contribution, but not as directly received from the donor.

Act Blue will report it in their total receipts and note it was earmarked for & sent to Lonestar PAC.

It keeps the same $1000 from being counted multiple times as flows from platform to PAC to cause to candidate.
