Black or silver?

If you’re indecisive between the two I would go silver.
It generally ages better.
That being said, I went black because it’s gorgeous.

u/Ok-Replacement-2712 1d ago
imo silver looks blank in person, black it is
5
u/Rady151 23h ago
For me it’s the opposite, black is boring as fuck.
1
u/TheAppleSeedPost 19h ago
You might as well have one for photography and one for personal at this point

u/Special-Ice-9935 1d ago
Black if you don’t mind fingerprints chips and scratches silver if you want the safe option like myself
4
u/xCyanideee 1d ago
Silver or black if you may be quite young, but back in the day everything was black and silver and it was really fucking boring, but silver’s got a bit of an apple classic look about it and it won’t be a fingerprint magnet

u/lilaceyedsoul 1d ago
Black (and burgundy) can lose its color.
2
u/CharacterArrival21 1d ago
That’s only if you use hydrogen peroxide to clean it like a dumbass
0
u/lilaceyedsoul 1d ago
Idk, just go through reddit, it seems some people did not use it and still lost colors.

u/rosiebeir 22h ago
They’re also being acknowledged by Apple employees as defective units that are getting immediately replaced without an issue.

If you switch your cases out a lot and want the most versatility then go silver, trust me. But if you don’t wear cases or only have a few, then black.

Silver, crisp and clean. The black just looks cheap.

My 12 year old just got the dark one🙄. Meanwhile I’m still rocking the 14😭

A 12 year old does not need an iPhone. Ridiculous.

-2
u/Jazzlike_Two204 15h ago
Oh stop being so hateful. You didn’t buy it and you’re right, he doesn’t NEED one but he wanted it and since he’s a good kid he got it. Enjoy your evening.
3
u/BlueLionio 17h ago
Sounds like your kid has it pretty good. I hear some parents say they give their young kids their old phone with a new case and then they buy themselves the new model.

u/Sagnet 1d ago
A 12 year old has a smartphone? 😳
0
u/dajack60585 1d ago
Why not? Apples screen time controls and apps like Life 360 allows parents control to keep them protected from the worst parts of the internet
8
u/Sagnet 1d ago
A 12 year old should be reading books, playing outdoors, doing homework, play sports or an instrument, making handcrafts, etc. And maybe watch a movie or two on a big screen. Handheld screens take time from all of that. I can’t see a purpose for a 12 year old having a smartphone.
7
u/dajack60585 1d ago
I don’t disagree at all with any of this. I also find YouTube damaging if not monitored. Too many people set their children down and let them stare at a screen.
2
u/Mad-Habits 21h ago
My daughter has a phone and all of the other kids her age have one as well. I got mine a phone since I want her to be able to contact me wherever she might be, especially when she’s with her mom. I just feel better knowing where she’s at and that she can contact me.
2
u/Sagnet 21h ago
Kids having a simple phone with buttons and a small display to be able to call or text friends and family is useful. Smartphones with large displays, apps, social media, internet etc are not for kids, and are detrimental to their mental health and development.
4
u/Mad-Habits 21h ago
how many kids do you have ?

u/Tharealist08 1d ago
It’s not the 90s/early 2000s anymore
5
u/PartyArgument9542 1d ago
I’ve seen the damage it does to these iPad kids , it’s actually scary and terrifying , you wouldn’t let them anywhere near a device if you heard the stories I’ve heard .
1
u/Jazzlike_Two204 22h ago
Are you from a different country? Serious question. And for the record my son gets a 4.0, he’s a saxophone player, he’s in the choir, does his chores, listens well to his dad and I and plays outside from the time he gets home from school until it gets darks. A kid having a phone in 2026 isn’t a strange thing
1
u/Sagnet 20h ago
Kids having a simple phone to text and call friends and family is perfectly OK. Smartphones, not so much.

Do you want me to write a whole essay about why it isn’t that good for a 12 year old?

Kids don’t need such expensive devices. An iPod touch is would have been enough.

I think the 4 colors this year were great choices for everyone. Warm and cool color. 2 neutral colors.
1
u/New-Ship-5404 1d ago
Go with lighter colors. I had to return burgundy as the discoloration started around camera module.

I am partial to silver bc it’s low maintenance compared to the black, and it looks good with any case. My dad was set on black until he saw my silver.

use a case? get black. cashless? silver. got silver with intentions of rocking caseless bur the aluminum feels so slippery to me i rock a clear case. i do wish i would have got the blaxk

Same here, I went with the silver! I’ve always had black/grey phones so went with something different
1
u/AdRough7689 1d ago
Silver. The black looks a bit cheap to me on the 17/18 design which is rather cheap looking to start with.
1
u/Equivalent-Catch-495 1d ago
I was undecided ,but I went with the silver for the first time. I love it
1
u/Equivalent-Catch-495 1d ago
Didn’t want the burgundy or black because of finger prints, even though I always have my case on it the only time I might not use a case is occasionally in my house
1
u/Ranglergirl 1d ago
Neither one 1️⃣ s for me but he black has a sharper look. The silver is too blah.

I thought the black would be better, visited them in person all the colors stain extremely bad except the sliver, the aluminum is such a lame material choice. Though basic the sliver is the cleanest in hand for sure

I got the black one and never considered silver when I was buying on release day. I’m beyond the return period now but if I had to choose today, I’d go with silver because it contrasts better with different cases.

I have the black coming from the deep blue 17 pro and it looks so much better than burgundy and silver combined. Glacier is a really good color I should’ve considered
1
u/NohrianInstinct 20h ago
Silver. Just put a black case that covers camera plateau to have a “black phone”. When you want silver, just switch cases.
1
u/themikeguy1161 20h ago
Co worker just got the black, and almost out of the box it was showing finger prints like crazy. I’m leaning towards glacier I think.

The main reason I went silver is because it reminded me of the best looking phone I ever had, the HTC One M7.

u/_HipStorian 18h ago
Silver. Black on the phone actually looks good. I think it makes MacBooks look cheap
1
u/3meterflatty 8h ago
Why does it matter if your laptop looks cheap or not lmao if it has and apple logo it’s not cheap
1
u/Prince515 17h ago
Both are nice! I always get my phones in black or dark colors though. Only time I didn’t was when I got the product red iPhone.

Everyone wants black or burgundy, PS coming from a good source. Glacier is also popular! Anything other than a 17 colour basically

Silver! It works with every case! I switched from a black 16 plus to a silver 18 pro and I couldn’t be happier!

I’d say black because of its sleek, minimal and low profile. It doesn’t draw any attention in public too. I had the silver iPhone 17 Pro and although it was an elegant color, I didn’t feel comfortable with it in public so I threw a case on it.
1
u/yodapuuck 7h ago
Silver, otherwise you’ll be here in a week complaining about the paint chipping around the plateau

If you photographing a lot through the windows choose black as lighter phone reflects more.

I always get the black if it’s available. I made an exception for the NT and it ended up being one of my favorite colors ever. Now I got the silver because I skipped the 17 Pro and always liked the raw metal look judging from videos and pics. I hoped it would be close to NT but honestly it’s a lot brighter, as expected.
I like it so far though. It has an industrial clean look and matches with virtually any case way better than the other colors.
I didn’t go with black because honestly it’s way too black. I mostly like the graphite/gunmetal kind of black from Apple. The jet black looks a bit generic to me, not saying this is necessarily a bad thing though, but I do prefer the more unique Apple approaches to a black color.
What more can I say, both are super safe, silver and black. You can’t go wrong or “dislike” any of these colors imo. It’s just a matter of preference and if you want a light or a dark phone. If you’re a case guy then silver has a tiny edge due to matching virtually all cases imo.

It does get some, but it’s usually never like this. This is a really bad example.

If it wasn’t the black rim around the screen I would go the light colour but because of it I always prefer darker colours. I don’t like the contrast in my face when display is looking at me.

Dude, it's just a phone. Whining on a message board and asking anonymous strangers what to do is pathetic.

u/Its_me_jayman 1d ago
The white definitely shows less, but if you uses a case as you definitely need for the fragile phones. These are the most damaged phone in the iPhone series

u/joekendricks 21h ago
Every time I get black, I always end up bored. Every time I get silver, it ends up blending after the honeymoon period, but never gets boring. I still have days during the week where I just put it facing down on my desk just to amaze myself lmao

u/ElDuendeAnthony 18h ago
I got black pm wish I got glacier or silver I got two small scratches you can’t tell without me pointing it out. now I have a dbrand case instead of zagg just to avoid new scratches it’s covers most of the phone( I work in construction don’t know when or how I got it)

I went with black. It’s a fingerprint magnet, but you should be cleaning your phone regularly anyway. I do like all the colors of this lineup, but I’m a pretty basic guy, so basic black for me.

Get the light one. I can never find my black phone when I lay it down
