What day is it?

A little early, but St Hubertus Feast Day, which is on 3 November, owns the iconology.

Man I'm always taking phone pics of the deer around the papal cross while I'm out running, especially the white ones, and they usually look like shit. You nailed it tho

Actually, it's exactly the same with me. This time I went with my kids to look for some late conkers (no luck), and brought my standalone camera (a Canon PhotoShoot) with me. The optical zoom on cameras is still far superior to anything my phone could produce.

Yeah, for sure. You need a good zoom if you're actually respecting the animals space, unlike the clowns you see holding up their toddlers and handfeeding the wild animals

It's a beautiful photo. And a very happy Hart.
With the Papl Cross in the background, I'm immediately thinking of [Psalm 42:1]: "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God."
This brightened my day.

Never thought I'd see a reference to St. Hubert of Liège on r/Ireland. That's class

Gorgeous creature. Pity about the big feckin' cross in the background.

Oh yeah, personally miss the good ol' days when we fucked lads in bogs for sacrifice.

Thankfully, Christianity put an end to that with *checks notes again*, prolific sexual abuse of minors, slavery of women, and a litany of abuses. Thankfully that all came to a close *checks notes again* with the Church obstructing all investigation and refusing to pay their part of the settlement.
The bog bodies were atypical. They were a primitive response to a Europe-wide plague/famine event that drove people to desperate actions. The sexual predation upon children by the priests, however, was systemic.
I'm pretty sure Christ had a couple of choice words about judgement. Something about a mote in your brother's eye. Or casting stones. Or the number of fingers on your hand.

Yeah, i'm sure child rapists never abused a religious position in time of the druids.
It's almost like monsters are attracted to positions of power, where they then abuse the trust of the believers.
The key question is: can one enjoy Michael Jackson's music while understanding he probably was a bad man?

Problem with the church is ironically it's strongest asset throughout history. Absolute belief in forgiveness and redemption. Personally I don't reckon pedophiles can be redeemed but sure I'm not a priest.

Actually, the RCC's pathology where it comes to child abuse is unique.
While statistically the rate of abusers is about the same, the RCC was unique in covering up after the fact. In facilitating the abuser, threatening the victims with excommunication and engaging in Mental Reservation.
The RCC is singularly bad about it.

I'm not going to defend the RCC. But the notion that the entirety of Christianity was bad is Varg stuff.
•

Except that your opening post makes it seem like any Christianity is a big improvement.
Unless you're talking about the Quakers, then I'm afraid the skeletons in your church of choice are probably as bad as the literally extraordinary bog bodies thing.

Thoughts on the spread of Islam?

Why do I think this is meant to be a racism-masquerading-as-genuine-concern gotcha?
•
u/Educational-Wait5439 3h ago
I'm wondering what type of atheist you are, one who critiques all religions for their dodgy writings or a moral coward who only shits on Christianity.
Pulling racism from nowhere rather than answering the simple question gives me my answer
