Food and Drink 2000s Drink Awareness Ad

Does anyone remember a drink awareness advert from 20ish years ago, the slogan was something like “why would you end your night like this” or something. It involved a man ripping his ear ring out, pouring curry down his top and giving himself a black eye (I think) before going on a night out. Was nightmare fuel at the time to me, haven’t been able to find a clip of it

Nopes I just remember the horrific ones where they killed people in slow motion with sad songs.

Shall I tell you about my life?

Ruined a perfectly good early Fleetwood Mac song.

(((car strikes kerb at speed, causing it to violently flip into an adjacent garden and bloodily squashing the child playing there. Driver emerges from the wreck, suffering only minor injuries as he numbly surveys the scene of a devastated father running out to cradle his son's corpse while sobbing.)))

🎶.... and I just wish that I'd never been born...

Not only did those ads make me not drink and drive.... They made me never want to sit behind the wheel of a car....

That ad is my most abiding memory of the Troubles. Madness that was on TV.

I was really young when I saw that and thought it meant my da and all the other da's were leading double lives in the RA

It was "Dont have that 5th pint" and it was a spoof ad from a Mitchel and Webb skit

It was a British campaign, not an Irish one and had a boys and girls variant of the ad, the campaign was called "know your limits", I unfortunately can't link the YouTube video, but searching know your limits boy variant should bring it right up

These ads were done between the RSA and the DfI. They were shown on RTE and UTV

That would explain why it's coming as a British ad campaign, because I do clearly remember them, op has only half of the tag line, the full line was, " You wouldn't start you night like this, so why end it like this", as soon as I saw I knew which ad he was on about.

They had different dubs to change the accents depending on whether you were watching them on RTE or UTV. Sometimes it was fine, but there were a few of the characters in them where the lipsync and voice were just off. The one that used Samantha Mumba's Body II Body had a really awful voice over on the guard/police officer at the end of it in NI.

That Mumba ones definitely bringing back memories now, but as for the original ad, the know your limits with binge boy/girl, I'm finding nothing to say it was ever ran officially on rte, or part of an rsa campaign, there's the mentions of it being ran on utv and UK satellite channels that may have "leaked" to certain viewers if they had access to those channels, but again nothing that the ad was sanctioned by any official body in Ireland, the original ad was commissioned by the UK home office and Department of health.
