Seeking Support Christian from conservative upbringing interest in Islam

Hello 28 year old male here im sure this question gets asked many many times but i am and have had a lot of interest in islam for a long time. As a white Christian from a conservative family i literally have no idea how to even approach new faiths. Im not sure how the process works just looking for guidance.

Mashallah brother I was also a white Christian born from a conservative family.

My best advice too you is to go to a local Masjid (Mosque) and go talk to them yourself. No doubt online is good but talking face to face and seeing prayers is extremely helpful. Most Masjids are open most of the day and most of the night so you could just drop by anytime or schedule an appointment with the Imam.

Furthermore as you may know, there are five pillars of Islam

  1. Shahada (Declaration of faith, I’ll explain in a little bit
  2. Salah (The five daily prayers)
  3. Zakat (Giving ~2.5% of your wealth to the destitute)
  4. Sawm (Fasting, like Ramadan as you might know of)
  5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah)

The first one, Shahada, is the Islamic “Declaration of Faith.” Essentially it’s what you say to become Muslim and you say it during prayers too. Quite literally by saying this declaration and then practicing sincerely you become a Muslim, no baptism no nothing. The Shahada is:  أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ or, in English,  I bear witness that there is no god but God (Allah), and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.

I encourage you to look at Islam with an  open heart and talk with your local Mosque leaders about what Islam truly is. My DMs personally are always open if you have a questions about Islam or my story of becoming Muslim in a situation that is sort of similar to yours. For now, here’s a couple of links that helped me

https://www.whyislam.org/manual/ (Extremely helpful on why Islam is the truth, also they have a number you can call and talk too)

https://embracereverts.org/ (led by the ICNA on how to become a Muslim once you believe in Islam)

https://youtu.be/xK1yIXr1Inc?is=nH5HzJYlYm1sk4UI (Video on why a Christian became Muslim)

I’ll leave you with one last thing. Muslims, like me, believe the Isa (Jesus) is a honored Prophet in Islam. He is treated with reverence and dignity but we believe he himself is not divine nor the son of God. We believe he did Miracles by permission of Allah SWT and was the Messiah of the Hebrews back then, and on the last days he will return as a messiah for all mankind and defeat the Dajjal (Islams rough equivalent of the Anti-Christ). We believe that the Qur’an is perfectly preserved and is the continuation of the faith of, peace be unto them all, Ibrahim (Abraham), of Musa (Moses), and Isa (Jesus), with the Prophet Muhammad being the last prophet and messenger of Allāh SWT.

I encourage you to learn for yourself about Islam and take not just others words for or against it, but what you believe and what Allāh SWT has revealed to us in the Holy Qur’an

Islam is not the enemy, it is the way to Jannah (Heaven), May Allah bless you in your journey

Apostasy is a capital offense, I think anyway.
