Photo Parents are getting dog that looks suspiciously perfect. No phone call yet, Cage looks strange.

Post image

The cage seems to go in and out of the fur, the kennel seems to not work like that? Also the paws seem to be too bug for and Australian shepherd. Not convinced its ai and maybe filter? But the background looks strange also because why is there random unconnected cages there.

Update: Parents Got Video and are paying at pick up! So likely just portrait mode!

The picture isn't AI but it could be a scam if they want payment before seeing the puppy

Negative for SynthID, if it smells like a scam, it's probably a scam.

Also the paws seem to be too bug for and Australian shepherd.

Show line Australian Shepherds have big feet like that. So that's not an AI tell.

That said, puppy scams are super common. Don't ever send money for a puppy you haven't seen in-person.

And puppies always have very big feet for their bodies.

I’m not sure if it’s AI, but can confirm that phone cameras do weird things with this type of background when you’re in portrait mode because they can’t figure out which thing to focus on. It may well be AI but the wonky focus on its own isn’t proof imo.

Never buy a dog without seeing it first, my wife got puppy scammed before

Looks like a wonky portrait mode picture of normal Aussie Puppy. Don‘t think it‘s AI but could still be a Scam. Have you tried google image search?

I don't see a SynthID but I would strongly advise to never pay for or adopt an animal you have not spent time with in person.

There are SO many dog scams going around rn. A lot of them are fronts for puppy mills and/or they will just outright take your money.

I used to just suggest asking for more photos but AI is producing scary good deepfakes these days. Someone pretending to be an employee of the shelter my fiancée used to volunteer at was going around FB with AI photos of fake dogs claiming they were dogs that were going to be euthanized and soliciting donations to "help them get adopted."

Even at best if there is a real dog, if it's being sold this way there is a horror puppy mill somewhere cranking them out and you are a significant part of the problem by buying from them.

What are the circumstances? Can they physically go pick up the dog?

Puppy looks normal but scammers can use pics of real puppies for their scams. If things seem fishy, it’s probably a scam, real pics or no.

We got our blue Merle Aussie as a pup and looked very similar to this red Merle. I’d be more inclined that it’s a scam vs AI if the breeder isn’t reputable

It's not AI.

The dog is leaning against the kennel, it's not warping into the dogs fur.

It's paws a a totally normal size for a puppy.

There's nothing scammy going on here, unless they want you to send money before you see that dog in person.

Ya. Never pay a cent until you meet.

Also that looks like an Aussie so I hope your parents plan to do agility or something or that dog will be trouble

That cage or pen looks just like one I had for my pup when I adopted him.

It’s more or less like a fencing that does have a door you can open and close.

That's an X-pen rather than a crate, and you can hook several different ones together easily enough. The latch looks fine, similar to one of mine. The doubled section is because there's a door there. The grass looks normal. Puppy is fluffy so fluff is going through the bars as it leans on them. Voting not AI.

the blurry background is making it look very suspect. it just doesn't look right.

always meet a pet in person before paying any money for it

This bit is what makes me say that it's not. I have a feeling they just had a blur background setting on, and is getting confused what is foreground or background. The focused spots are dark like the pen, so it's getting picked up as if it's a foreground element, but in areas of high contrast, it seems to be more blurred. Aside from that, the lines of the fencing stay fairly consistent and match up. Looks like a gorgeous dog!

Taken with phone in portrait mode (adds blur to background).

I think that’s AI. What is going on in the upper left quadrant? It looks like the cage wall continues on, the cage bar vanishes, and that same vanishing bar is also… on the ground?

Was macht das rechte ohr genau??

Agree on cage looking strange, but more that it’s just inconsistent with the dog. Maybe real photo edited with AI

My grandmother got scammed very similarly. Paid in gift cards which I assume your parents probably wouldn’t do but tell them to be careful.

Are there "floorless" kennels specifically like this design (noting the latch behind is more typical of those with a bottom in them, at the very least)? I've not seen one but doesn't mean they don't exist.

Deeply suspicious of AI despite the absence of a SynthID (which can be removed):

- The latch behind the puppy is in the "open" position (circumstantial and not proof-- there is often a second latch further up that could be hidden from view).

- The "loops" next to the door are (in my experience with kennels) only ever positioned along the edges of the outer frame where there is a collapsible side (the collapsible side pops into the hook so it doesn't buckle outwards). Its location in the pic makes no sense.

- The two metal panels to the left are connected with the hinge (normal), but are installed in "reverse" (note the horizontal wire running on the outside for one panel, but the inside for the other panel). Theoretically it could have been a manufacturing flaw.... but unlikely.

- The vertical frame wire with the hinges (on the left) twists at the top, where the image was selectively blurred.

- The blurring is applied in a very targeted way-- i.e., manually (not in a consistent manner like I'd expect with a camera's autofocus). It appears that the blurring in particular was applied in the top left to mask the obvious inconsistencies in the cage's wire-- notice how the vertical and horizonal lines are inconsistent across blurred and non-blurred regions.

That's fake. The construction is like a wire crate, but missing the bottom that helps keep it rigid. Outdoor kennels and pens are built differently because they have to be rigid and freestanding with only a top cover to keep the walls from buckling. AI didn't know the difference.

Also, dude, the crate door isn't even latched closed.
