Who will replace President Daniels when he retires?

He's been doing great work for well over a decade.

But he's on the older side and imagine he'll have to slow down eventually. How do you see the most likely successor situation playing out?

The president is chosen by the trustees. Possibly they will have a hand-picked candidate, but more likely there will be a search. There may be an interim president while the search is ongoing.

He'll be retiring as of June 2029 when his term ends. So plenty of time for the Trustees to find other candidates.

Daniels also sucks actually - he’s a neoliberal sellout who has collaborated with the Trump administration:

He’s also pushing building an AI center and more conservative faculty/students

This sub has been flooded by inane posts made by “people” who popped onto Reddit less than a week prior with fuckall Karma (some might even refer to them as bots).

Keeping the research portfolio alive during these dark times surely should be a priority of a President.

he is obligated to think of the financial needs of the institution above politics. I would be shocked if he supported Trump from a personal standpoint but by not aligning himself with this administration, JHU is at even greater risk of losing hundreds of millions more in research grants. It's a messed up situation but I understand why he acted how he did.

He kept the university out of the crosshairs of the fasciist regime. He took the university on a far better path than Harvard, which has a much larger endowment to weather the storm. Hopkins is the largest private employer in the state of Maryland - Daniels has 1000s of employees to worry about. He’s thinking about and planning for the next 3 or 4 decades. He understands Trump is just an annoyance and will be gone soon.

JHU, unlike Harvard, has very close ties with the DOD. Just google “JHU and dept of defense.” Some of JHU’s Applied Physics Lab employees literally aren’t even in the school’s directory.

In other words, Daniels didn’t have to do much to keep JHU out of the crosshairs.
