I’m a non-student who got hit with a brutal parking ticket after parking in a spot I thought was allowed. A student friend says I can just ignore it because I don’t go to JMU, is that true?

Sorry if this post isn’t allowed, this is my first ticket too if that’s relevant.

If your plates or Vin number are recorded, then they can report the unpaid ticket to the DMV. So it will comeback to bite you in the butt at some point

Usually the first parking ticket at JMU is a warning and free and should say so on the ticket. The next fine is $100 that you pay through the JMU website

So double check the ticket to see what it says

They will probably let you buy a retroactive day pass and reduce the fine if you go fess up (and it wasn't a fire lane or something).
