No no wait! let's think about this. How best to upset TERFs like JKR? Make Malfoy in Malfoid? No. Make Malfoy female and have her date Female Harry Potter? THAT would totally upset the TERF Community. Guys, think about it.

Harry Potter is a 30-year old fandom with a huge community of fanfiction writers. Why are people suddenly pretending genderbent-Draco is something new?

Because with the power of AI, these dumbasses can make their own "art" of it. It's so funny that they think they're original.

Because it's the 'wrong' group of lonely people doing it now.

They're also making 'malfoid' hilariously racist, which kinda goes against the original HP fandom.

Canon Malfoy is in Racism House?

4

u/NewelSea 4h ago

Racism House

Surprisingly enough, that's the first time I hear that paraphrase for Slytherin, but it checks out.

2

u/ValorousOwl 3h ago

Aren't they technically the ableism house? They hate magicless people. That's a disability considering squibs isn't it?

u/GalaXion24 17h ago

I mean it's kind of a new trend since I don't think fem!draco has really been a trend even if some examples of it exists (there's probably more fem!harry if anything), but I do think it's clear that a lot of the fans of this are larpers who never read (or wrote) fanfiction in their youth.

u/Aggrophysicist 14h ago

It's been around for atleast 15 years, gender bent characters and all.

28

u/cryerin25 12h ago

i did my time in the hp fandom and read genuinely hundreds of girl!malfoy fics over those years, lmao. it’s been done.

9

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 12h ago

Oh yes fanfiction.net is full of them

10

u/AliisAce 11h ago

Fem!malfoy isn't new and has been semi popular for decades.

Additionally some fanworks treat Daphne Greengrass as fem!malfoy bc she's basically just a blank slate of a female slytherin in Harrys year.

u/thiscouldbemassive 22h ago

When it comes to gender switching Malfoy, these guys are late to the game by 25 years. Women have been on that ship decades before these guys thought of it.

24

u/Kimmalah 10h ago

Yeah, but now men are doing it so they think it's this new revolutionary thing that is groundbreaking and they totally thought of it bro. Also they have to incorporate racism and right wing bullshit somehow as well.

92

u/Mynock33 22h ago

I don't understand any of this.

Please don't explain it to me either. I'm okay not knowing.

u/Sad_Hannibal 20h ago

What's with the pineapples?

71

u/fissionmoon 20h ago

The original comic this is an edit of is about brands co-opting fun/silly trends for marketing and ruining them.

People putting pineapples on their heads just represented any silly Internet trend/meme. And then the Brands show up and start doing it, so everyone else gives up and starts throwing away the pineapples/stopping doing the trend until it's basically just brands talking to each other while real people have all moved on

16

u/Sad_Hannibal 19h ago

Thanks for the explanation. I kept racking my brain and couldn't figure it out lol

4

u/fireinthemountains 11h ago

This is so prevalent on tiktok with branded accounts getting comments from other brands, it's absurd.

They are larping as r63 fand and harry x malfoy shippers

u/Sinisphere 18h ago

This whole thing is so weird. We got trans people desperately asking everyone to stop engaging with it.

People who unironically use the word foid angry at it.

And a bunch of oblivious reddit gooners in the middle, enjoying their genderbent trend.

4

u/OverloadedSofa 15h ago

I still don’t truly know what foid is or how it came about.

24

u/KingdomOfPoland 15h ago

Its literally a slur for women, its shortened from “femoid” and its from incels complaining about women.

12

u/Center-Of-Thought 11h ago

"Foid" is shorthand for "female humanoid", it's an incel slur that dehumanizes women.

12

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 12h ago

The core incel belief that women are both robotic and demonic wanting sex with hot men all the time and they are the heroic dragonslayers

4

u/Kimmalah 10h ago

Incels don't think women are human, so they use the term "female humanoid." Which then got smashed together and abbreviated as "foid" or "femoid."

8

u/GalaXion24 17h ago

I do think it's worth pointing out there's nothing unironic about the "foid" in "malfoid." The reason it caught on is precisely because it's so ridiculous and so many people found it funny.

27

u/Sinisphere 17h ago

I mean people unironically using it as it's intended slur.

-26

u/guleedy 16h ago

It was just straight gooner fun like the bowsette situation, but this time the internet instead of letting jt be what it is got very upset and political only emboldening them further

20

u/Sinisphere 15h ago

Its almost like this IP carries different baggage.

-25

u/guleedy 15h ago

I think the issue is that no one cares about rowlings anti Trans situation outside of the Trans community so similar to hogwarts legacy or this new Harry potter show no matter hoe much they cry about it it will fall on deaf ears.

5

u/OverloadedSofa 15h ago

Bowsette was cool though

2

u/verygenericname2 11h ago

Buddy, nobody's stopping you from jerking it fictional schoolgirls, just expect weird looks if you announce it to the world.

0

u/guleedy 10h ago

Im starting to think people are thinking I am defending this. Its not the case. I was explaining what was happening but it looks like i have egg on my face bow

26

u/BaneAmesta 11h ago

Lmao this trend is "ruined" already? That's hilarious, they totally deserved it. Specially for the "foid" BS. No fun for the neckbeards

10

u/Kimmalah 10h ago

I mean, honestly the "trend" was ruined because people won't stop pushing it everywhere. Like there are people out there who have seriously allowed a genderbent Draco Malfoy to basically take over their life, to the point that it's all they post about everywhere. I go into totally unrelated subs about shows or games and it's "Check out my version of Malfoid in the [whatever] universe!!"

It's also gotten a weird subset of right wingers pushing Malfoid as some kind of "victory" for conservative values? Not sure how or why they think that makes sense, but there you go.

8

u/BaneAmesta 10h ago

About the last part, I can see why. Female Malfoy is a regular conservative, blonde, rich girl. Exactly what the neckbeards and incels seem to like.

11

u/puffskeleton 19h ago

This is cockroach wifing, do these guys even like women?

1

u/kyl792 14h ago

It’s a recognizable verb now 😆

17

u/Center-Of-Thought 11h ago

I'm a woman, and I really hate the "Malfoid" trend. For one, JKR is awful and I don't want to see her series trending. And another, the character, who is a woman, has a name that contains a slur against women. That makes it clear the intention with the character was to be objectifying goonerbait, rather than to be a positive genderbend of a character. I normally like genderbent characters too, hell I even find some Bowsette art empowering, but this Malfoid trend just feels so gross.

3

u/moonprincessmermaid 5h ago

If anything I’d say the name containing a slur/being offensive is the most “realistic” part for an HP character. Like at least it’s on brand for the franchise.

6

u/Forward-Village1528 15h ago

Why do they have pineapples?

17

u/Fortehlulz33 14h ago

The original comic is about brands adopting social media trends (twitter source)

1

u/NewelSea 4h ago

"adopting social media trends" is a very goodwilled phrasing of "shoving their product advertisement down people's throats that just were having some dumb fun"

3

u/mulekitobrabod 10h ago

"Stop doing gay and troon shit!!!! I want to fap to minors not acknowledge their existence"

18

u/ZeldaCourage 22h ago

I didn't know Draco transitioned. Proud of her.

13

u/Snoo63 16h ago

The thing is, the majority of the current fem!Draco art trend is making her a cis woman instead of trans.

4

u/NomenScribe 22h ago

Totally shipping her with Petra.

I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again, I hate this trend sm bc:

  1. foid in the name? Foid is an incel term, why are we normalizing calling women foids even in a joking way.
  2. turning a gay ship straight. IF YOURE GONNA GENDER BEND. BEND BOTH THE GENDERS. If we’re really gonna make Draco a girl, why tf is Harry not also a girl. Come onnnn
  3. Harry Potter. Ew. (Self explanatory.)
  4. if you’re gonna genderbend Draco, why are we turning him into a basic tsundere mean anime girl. Can we really not be any more interesting than that? Booooo (I say this as someone who used to be known exclusively for drawing genderbent jjba characters)
  5. sexualizing teenagers. (Self explanatory.)
  6. lowkey I think everyone just yearns for the infinitely better dipcifica ship.

My brother keeps showing me art he found of it bc he thinks the trend is funny, and ughhh I try to be nice, but everything about it just gives me ick.

My jjba genderbending credentials:

1

u/NewelSea 4h ago

Regarding (2): From what I've seen online, it's less about isolated shipping fantasies as far as I can tell. Turning what was a non-romantic rivalry in the books into a rivalry with romantic tension is in fact arguably the biggest appeal of those that enjoy the Malfoid trend.

Being intentionally provocative by choosing that name and sharing some gooner-bait is what likely made the trend explode, but what really kept it going was the genuine interest in the "what if"-scenario of changing Malfoy into a girl precisely because it changes the gender dynamics between Harry and Draco. Example:

Korean Malfoid Rewrite is PEAK Fiction

There are whole fan-fictions at this point that went through all the interactions between them across the seven books, and think of how a Tsundere interpretation of Draco would actually make several interactions between them stronger in terms of writing.

I'll be sending this post to someone onto whom I'd like to impart a migraine.

4

u/WastingMyTime_Again 12h ago

Jesus fucking Christ almighty, I swear I wouldn't have heard about JK Rowling in ten years or so if Reddit didn't insist on throwing a fit about her every other week

Ohhhh god noooo, not the genderbent Malfoy, ohhhh fuckkkkkk, we need seventeen threads

Brother, I am BEGGING you all to get a hobby

4

u/RoughCoffee6 11h ago

Standing for our rights as trans people isn’t a “hobby.” So you’ll likely have to cope until she stops being a garbage person.

2

u/B-Dragons_2560 15h ago

Just hope they don't start with the "yuri" thingies

1

u/The_Ambling_Horror 11h ago

The irony, of course, being that if you swap the genders, it’s largely historically correct, starting with Trek, the OG fandom.

1

u/AvatarWaang 5h ago

These dudes are gay. They hate women and wish their favorite (male) main character had ended up with a different (male) character instead of the (female) character he did end up with. They can dress up Malfoy as a girl all they want, but they all think Harry should have ended up with him instead and that "fixes the romance" of the book. They just haven't realized they're gay yet. But they would all probably be happier if they just paired off with each other already.
