"Go check Kia.ca yourself" – Unbelievable experience at a Mississauga Kia dealership

Had an infuriating experience trying to shop for a new car at a Kia dealership in Mississauga today, and wanted to see if this is normal here.

I had a scheduled appointment, but the salesperson ("Sohail") still made me wait 30 minutes. When we finally sat down, he didn't know his own inventory or the differences between the 2026 and 2027 models - he literally Googled it right in front of me. To make matters worse, when I asked to test drive the top-of-the-line trim I was interested in, he claimed they didn't have any available for a test drive.

He then scribbled a biweekly rate of $398 on a scrap sheet of paper. When I asked for a written breakdown, he refused. When I mentioned I visited Oakville Kia a couple of months ago and got a number around $370, he claimed he could "work closer to that," but still wouldn't give me a concrete figure.

When I demanded to see his manager, he brought out someone after another 15 minutes (who honestly seemed like just another sales associate playing manager). This "manager" flat-out told me it’s "dealership policy" not to give quotations, and told me to go check Kia.ca.

So he opened up Kia.ca right there on his computer - and the official biweekly payment came out to $337. When I asked why Sohail gave me a ridiculous $398 quote, the "manager" claimed it included a mandatory "dealership service package" that adds 10%. Even basic math says a 10% add-on doesn't turn $337 into $398.
Is this location known for pulling fake "policies," phantom managers, and shady price padding, or did I just hit the jackpot for bad service?

North Vancouver Kia experience here, they gave me a formal quote with a breakdown of costs. They also laid out lease vs financing options, downpayment and varying length terms for comparisons.

It sounds like you had a terrible experience. Not every dealership is the same so it’s worth visiting another to compare.

I'll definitely not be going back to them again. Seems like I did hit the jackpot for terrible customer experience.

I get my vehicle serviced there even though they are probably the furthest from me in the lower mainland. Incredible service! Just don't ever go to applewood in Surrey or Langley. Theives!

This isn't normal. Walk away and tell your friends.

100% agree Mississauga Kia is the worst. I had a brutal experience there this week when I went in to test drive a Sportage. Just like they did with you, they wouldn't even give me a verbal price. Kept telling me the price is whatever is on the website and they'll just beat whatever quote I bring them from somewhere else.

When I mentioned that other brands are throwing in free add-ons like winter tires right now, the guy literally told me that's impossible and told me to show him proof. Super unwelcoming and zero respect for customers. Never going back there.

Go to Orangeville Kia, they no dicker, often detailed quote is less than Kia.ca by a few dollars a month. Great people there!

Will check them out, thanks for the heads up!

I second this. They'll give you a quote over the phone and it will be the lowest you find, because they don't have any dealer fees!

Oh good to know!!

Will definitely do that. I can't imagine dealing with such people on a regular basis.

Yup. Similar at Thunder Bay.

Tim didn't introduce himself when I walked in, I had to initiate that conversation. Test drove a Sorento. Hated it but was still curious of the numbers.

Kept asking me my monthly payment as I asked repeatedly back for an all in cost on 60m vs 66m financing. Wouldn't answer me till I gave him a number. I went high at $950 knowing what I saw online at Kia.ca was lower.

Tim didn't even have his own computer and needed his manager to give me numbers. Came back assuming I wanted to trade in my old car, I never said I did. And oh look, with my trade in as a deduction, he got my payments right at $950. Online they were $900 without a trade in. Didn't offer me the numbers on 66m like I asked

Tim was also trying constantly to sell to my Dad. I am buying the car, not him. Tim then texted me 15 mins after I left the dealership saying he "forgot" to tell me about another amazing financing opportunity.

So anyway, I bring my 2027 GMC Terrain home on Monday.

Wow, that sounds awful. Glad you finally got a good vehicle.

i learned early on buying cars that you should absolutely shop around and use the phone to call around. My last purchase was negoatiated all via phone, spent about 45 min at the dealership for a final test drive, sign some paperwork and leave with the car.

Actually, I took it a little further. I applied for kia loan online and was approved. Then searched for the specific model, options and color online as well. I searched dealerships in other states and found two vehicles that matched my requirements. I then spoke to each dealership and had them send a quote (which was much lower than anything in my area) I then took it to the local dealership with full intent to call the out of state dealership if the local one couldn't meet my price. They had a discussion before making an offer but matched the out of town price. There is some work involved but the savings was worth it.

I did exactly this process a few years back with a new 2019 Toyota highlander. The New Jersey dealerships would not give me a discount off Msrp but the 2 Pennsylvania dealerships had huge discounts. I showed the NJ dealerships but they only came down a small amount. I ended up buying out of state savings thousands and never looked back.

The answer is yes, that is typical for any dealership (not just Kia). No sense in going in person and wasting a day anymore. Just waste a couple hours online, get a deal in writing and then go make it official.

Dealerships are doing the bare minimum and expecting you to thank them for it now. We bought a 2024 Kia Sportage in 2025. About 6k miles on it. Essentially brand new. The sales guy had no clue about any of the features, hell, he didn’t even know how the cup holders worked. But guess who calls me every couple of weeks begging for referrals.

No this is not normal. I’ve purchased two vehicles at Bessada Kia in Pickering, years apart, and they’ve provided quotes written out in a complete breakdown on both occasions. And I’m a single woman who purchased the vehicles on my own.

2

u/yasirali2006 2d ago

That's what I thought they should have done. But the experience made me reconsider kia overall.

2

u/Forward-Source-5273 2d ago

I can completely understand why! I hope you have a better experience somewhere else and find the right vehicle for you!

1

u/abckiwi 1d ago

Just a bad dealership. I’ve bought cars many times over the years in the GTA and have seen so many “games” played.
Most of my vehicles have been purchased out of town like Cambridge , Orangeville etc.
good luck with your “hunt”

LOL we had the same exact experience a couple of weeks ago at same location. I thought it was just me but it seems like this is their customer service. They had no idea what inventory they had and wouldn’t offer a price on the spot which was so odd. They didn’t seem to care whether they made a sale or not.

I am not sure why this dealership does not provide a price. That’s the first thing that I would check once I have finalised my vehicle. They made me run away from Kia. I have finalised Hyundai Tuscon today. Hyundai was so welcoming.

I got my Kia in Calgary and they also showed me all the numbers and breakdowns between buying outright, financing and leasing.

I'm sorry, but you got a shady dealership there

1

u/EquivalentMaximum211 2d ago

Which dealership? Northland was not great for me

1

u/slinky_crayon 1d ago

South Trail. Northland was awful. They didn't care about my budget and tried to sell me an SUV that I didn't want

1

u/EquivalentMaximum211 1d ago

Sounds about right! I bought from Eastside but Northland was closer to me so I went for service but they were $$$ and tried to get me to buy a vehicle I didn’t need. I’m still trying to find a way to block them. They also add some ridiculous dealership $5000 package.

I was told that South Trail is great. Northland’s experience soured me from Kia altogether.

1

u/slinky_crayon 1d ago

When I lived in Saskatoon for work, the dealership there tried to convince me to trade in my K5 for a more expensive SUV that cost more per month. All I wanted was an oil change

1

u/EquivalentMaximum211 1d ago

Yup that’s pretty much what they did!

2

u/Much-Amaze69 1d ago

What a bunch of clowns. 🤡

1

u/ActivityAble4511 2d ago

lol I had an experience like this at a GM dealer in Toronto area, complete buffoon salesman and it was a hard to move vehicle, they literally phoned and emailed me for months to try to sell it but I ghosted them and bought something else

1

u/SuitSeveral212 2d ago

I go to Kia of Brampton. They re pretty good.

1

u/Environmental_Way513 2d ago

Definitely go to Orangeville Kia. Talk to Ryan the GM and tell him Patrick sent you. I've bought 3 cars from them with zero hassles.

1

u/jeffster1970 2d ago

Bad service.

When I got my car, I tried first at Kitchener Kia, they had no stock, so they sent me to Waterloo Kia. Price was as advertised and I had to ask for things they usually try to sell you (I asked for the winter tire package).

I have been dealing with Mayfield Kia in brampton and their GM Idris. Top notch service, really transparent and responsive. It's a newer dealership. Would highly recommend and at least its adjacent to mississauga somewhat.

I just wonder what possesses people to actually buy a Kia in the first place. Just go to Erin Park Toyota and buy a Toyota man. Stop messing around. Why light money on fire?

That new Kia EV5 is getting some great reviews

u/fae237 1d ago

I like 401 Dixie Kia personally. I mean it’s been like 5 years since I bought my car but I still go there monthly for my oil change and my tire storage.

We had a similar experience at Cambridge Kia and I wrote a Google review with a photo of the "quote" they gave us in sharpie on the back of a piece of paper that I wasn't allowed to take with us. We ended up going to Guelph Kia and had a way better sales experience but the service department isn't the best.

Yall wanna see some shit with kia. Google Lake charles Kia. They used parts off her car for another car. She was in there for a flat repair!

Most Kia dealerships are shit in Ontario! I live in the Kingston area and drove to Cornwall to get my sportage and Cobourg to get my used 24 Forte. Tried to get a simple price on a trade in on a K4 from Kingston Kia. For over a week I emailed Texted and called only to talk to an AI chat bot, even the manager who said he'd call me back never did! Made a deal for a car at Boyer kia in Belleville and a couple of days later the called to raise the price because the wernt making enough money on the offer lmao, his words! Don't even get me started on the Kia dealerships in the Ottawa area. Awesome service at both Cobourg and Cornwall kia.

This past week I too have been shopping for a Kia Sportage hybrid SXP. I did everything via email, phone and text and once I got one full out the door bid from one dealer, I sent it to others.

I didn’t go to the dealer until after I’d already received an out the door price sheet from them and was treated very well. I would play different Kia dealers against each other.

At least two of the dealerships I contacted never sent me any information and didn’t seem very quick on the draw.

I ended up with a price of $40,950 for a 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid SXP out the door. I’m in the Raleigh NC area.

I went to Mississauga Kia and few weeks ago and the sales manager Massey yousof basically interrogated me which felt like I had to convince him to sell me a vehicle.

I walked out right there and then. Told me unless I am willing to buy a vehicle this week, I am worth their time. Did not give me any info.

1

u/Optimal-Argument4623 23h ago

It seems more like KIA doesn't care about how the dealers are going about the business. Exact same scenario at Grimsby Kia even after I was looking to buy a car within a week. Just gave me a website quote and asked me to shop around and see if I could get better.

OP, do you know what OMVIC is?

The "All-In" pricung laws are very clear in Ontario. If a car is advertised anywhere, including the Kia.ca website, for a certain price, the dealership is legally required to honor that price.

If KIA.CA advertises the car at

MSRP + Freight/PDI + AC Tax + Tire Disposal fee + OMVIC

If the Kia website adds an admin fee(probably around $599-$799), then you pay that too.

  • 13% HST

Telling you that the Service contract is "mandatory" is called Tied Selling and its against the law in Ontario.

They are not obligated to discount their car below what I listed, but if the website says the car is $XXX then they have yo be willing to sell you a car at that price.

Thank you for reminding me of yet another reason I refuse to buy another kia.

1

u/Nscocean 1d ago

You both sound exhausting. Why did you put his name in quotations by the way?

1

u/keylimesicles 1d ago edited 1d ago

Each dealership has its own add ons, it’s up to you to check which are legal and which are negotiable, then you can figure out monthly payments that will absolutely depend on your financing options. Kia Canada’s website doesn’t include dealer add ons and fees, only the bare minimum purchase recommendations

And yes it’s normal for a dealerships not to have a certain vehicle in stock, they trade them around amongst each other frequently.

Which dealership in Mississauga? The Erin Mills one was alright, but I didn’t end up buying a Kia (dodged a bullet there!).

1

u/yasirali2006 2d ago

Yeah, the Erin mills one.
