First stunt kite

Post image

I read some good reviews over this stunt kite. I’m an absolute beginner but I managed to put it together all I need to do is attach the strings. I’m pretty sure it’s assembled right but if you have any advice or think otherwise let me know. I hope to attach the strings by using the larks head knot.

How did you get on, did you manage to get out

Yeah it went better than I expected, still crashed a lot tho lol. I need to practice getting it back into launch position from any angle it lands. I got it a few times but still had to do a lot of walking back and forth

If it is a expensive kite, it might be a better idea to do the walk than damage the kite, you could try shorter lines, saving the steps lol

I got a used prizm jazz for $20 so I won't be too upset if something happens to it. Figured that would be a good one to learn with. If I don't get it to pop into position after like 2 tries I've just been walking up to it. It's awesome when it works right

if it's hard to fly and control, it's not your foult... this looks to be a chinese copycat toykite and migth just be made wrong.

I’ll look for better options later I just wanted something a little fun to mess with

I bought one to try it out, on my one, I was worried about losing the standoffs so added a bit of cotton to the parts as in the video I have shared. Chinese stunt kite

supertramp... :-)

and that's a good trick, I usually just use elastic bands :-)

I do as well, but on that one the rods are small, very small. It flys okay, but not as good as a good named brand. But for £7. I just had to give it a try, not with the supplied line though, used my own one's

what other kites do you fly? because flying ok would be a surprise to me, lol... but I have ethical problems with those chinese copykites... so I'll never fly one.

Then I will make you cry! All apart from Two are either home made or China, Flexifoil Stranger, 10 stacking 6 staker and a Peter Powell trick kite, since COVID All our kite shops have gone in my area, so it's on line sales unfortunately, I do envy the USA kite pilots

Looks put together right maybe the bridle might be tangled around a spar, just lift it by the bridle and make sure it's clear.

Remember to step forward if you are going to crash, that's against what common sense says but it makes it crash slower.   Have fun

Thanks I was having issue with the bridle

Nice! What kind of kite?

I got it off Amazon lol but I heard good things about it. I’m not tryna break the bank just getting started and all

replace those lines asap and get good ones... these are nylon and stretch, making steering the kite a lot harder than it needs to be

Yea I echo this. Also if they stay on those handles it will be difficult to keep them the same length. Have fun flying!

What should I get? I heard kevlar
String is good for a replacement. And also where should one look to buy handles for kites

No Kevlar.

Back in the 1980s it was used, but fell out of favor and is actively shunned by all groups today.

Yes, it is strong and low stretch, but it will cut through everything else, including your own kite if you get a wingtip wrap. Back in the day a lot of kites needed repairs due to the stuff. Some stores still have it in the old stock, they will never sell it all.

Spectra/Dyneema sport kite line, not confused with spectra fishing line. Same synthetic, but different spun out with different fibers and different weave. Lots of brands like Shanti, Laser Pro, Matrix, and others are Spectra / Dyneema based kite lines.

Oh okay I’ll look into getting some, I flew it today fine but I do need to replace the line before it becomes an issue. Any recommendation for handles too? Thanks

Depends, where are you on the globe?

There's no point paying for international shipping if you have a kite shop nearby. And even if there's no shop, there could be an active kite club or someone who can help you locally.

Lots of us have old gear we'll happily give to beginners, or sell for cheap, or put in a shared order to save on shipping. Best to find local people first.

Yea I might do that thanks for the advice

Yes it’s kinda messed up, I’m kind of lost on how it’s supposed to go but I’ll figure it out

1

u/Aeri73 8d ago

you don't.

the kite should be set up right.

1

u/arcusthedeer 8d ago

I think it is I’m just horrible at tying that larker head knot for some reason
