First time CDS Winner
Accepted a dogsitting job outside my usual range. The second night I found these two stinkers abandoned. They just got back from the vet they're healthy and perfect and mine!

Yes, you've truly hit the jackpot with the CDS. A double win with those two. They're both cute little kittens, who are destined to graduate into a pair of beautiful kitty cats. I love their green eyes.

Probably their mom. I found them in a really rural area and they're only 6 weeks old

Do cats do that?

Yeah they probably annoyed the crap out of her with their teeth. It happens. I'm glad they stuck together

Mom isn't jetting off to Vegas for a fun weekend. Bad things can happen when they're looking for food & water: car strikes, dog attacks, mean people (ex. man killing cats w/crossbow in nearby town), locked in a garage etc. She drank puddle water with lethal toxins like anti-freeze in it or ate poisoned food (lost 4 colony cats this way). She may have succumbed to disease like panleuk, parasite infestation or a post-partum infection. Given the age of the kittens & feline 63 day gestation, a likely & happier explanation of maternal abandonment is that she is heavily pregnant with her next litter. There's only room for one crew at the milk bar. Feral feline females walk a rough road.

Oh I don’t doubt that. I was asking if female cats intentionally abandoned their kittens ever. I really don’t know. I have found three kittens all alone in my rural area three separate times. I have rescued them all, but I never see any other kittens around or the mom.

There is one more reason moms abandon that single kitten. If they feel the kitten is not going to make it, they'll leave it. Saw a mom put a kitten in the gutter then go back up the alley & disappear. Kitten had a bad uri which meant it couldn't nurse. It has to be able to breath thru the nose to suckle. Well, I snatched the lil sniffler up and took her home. No uri is going to beat me but I have options mom doesn't. Sickness, prematurity, birth defects (external & internal) are all causes for abandonment. If kittens are 6 weeks plus, mom is heavy with the next litter which sucks but it happens. Of course, as u well know, people dump unwanted litters in rural areas. Kittenappers!

Ahhhh, the cat distribution system strikes another lucky person, just not me 😭 Kittens require so much attention and playtime, so the fact that these two already have a built-in buddy to grow up with is amazing 🫶 You seriously hit the CDS jackpot.
