Excuse my ignorance, but what does a 64-bit mod mean for us?

Allows more mods compared to the 32-bit that we have

Thanks for the reply, and when you said more mods, In what capacity? Like more zombies? Higher resolution textures? Sorry modding newbie here, I want to be excited with y'all too! Lol

32 bit software is limited to only 4gb of ram and its a hard limit. 64 bit is so massive its considered unlimited, so 4k textures and hundreds of mods are now much more feasible.

Wow, very interesting, I (think I) know my way around a computer, but today I learned that 32-bit is limited to 4gb of ram. Actually I really never knew the difference for real, I just remember when I bought my first gaming PC, everyone told me to install 64bit windows so that way my ram wouldn't be..... OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I just put 2 and 2 together. But is why is 64 unlimited?

You got it! 64 bit is so massive, it theoretically allows for ~17 billion gigabytes, that number is so large it basically is unlimited for us. That is because for each bit you add, the memory space doubles.
Now of course your actual hardware is now suddenly the limit, but once your on 64 bit you don't need to worry.
Since l4d2 is currently 32 bit, it can only hold 4gb at a time so a lot of mods is very difficult if not impossible due to the ram constraints.

Yes, it can accept more mods as well and handle a huge numbers of zombies (e.g. super hordes) meaning lesser or zero chance of crashing with the "too many indices for index buffer" message.

More mods, more stability, more future proofing, less limitations

Huge hordes, WWZ style. HD textures, possibility of 8 human players vs 8 natively infected without installing complicated mods. It really is breaking all software limits that may exist right now.

That's only useful for the few people who use those mods though? Does it also have 128 tick and hitbox improvements? Does it unlock FPS or fix lerp?

8v8!? Did you say 8v8!? Imagine if people make mods so good that there will be a straight up revival of left for dead, made by the people most passionate about it. God, now that really understand, I almost want to shed a tear🥲

I hate to be that guy but where's your source?

I think OP's talking about L4D2 Outbreak which is not an official update to the base game but a separate community (Valve approved) version of L4D2 with 64-bit support.
