Northern US & Canada (or cool season) First mow - SS5000 seed in Ohio
Did full renovation second week of September. I used SS5000 seed. Cut it lowest I could and killed everything first. Then I used one of those Jeff Bezos detachers and picked up as much as I could I had tons of clumping fescue. Areated and threw down soil, leveled it, then mixed the seed with Milo and went to town. I did use way more than it was recommended, which made me a little nervous. But so far so good.
Did the first mow yesterday.
The tree lawn is struggling a little because I didn’t use new soil like I did with the front lawn but it’s coming up. Just a lot slower.

Man super seed store confuses me. Are they shutting down or not? Their seed options have been drastically diminished.

I didn’t know they were suppose to be shut down. I went to their website and ordered. Super fast shipping too.

They just used to have way more selection. Blends of each type of cool season grass, individual cultivars, custom blends - now they only seem to sell SS5000.

I don't have the balls to do kbg in Ohio lol I wish you luck. If you ever want to overseed it twin city seeds has blue envy and every cultivar is recommended by Ohio State for ohio lawns

Yeah I was going back and forth between this or TTTF, but ultimately decided to do KBG. This is sunny area, which this blend is good for plus there is zero traffic. I am willing to give it all the love that it needs.
I might do TC for the back and sides.

As long as you're fine with irritating or it going dormant it'll be fine. It's a good blend and kbg is beautiful

Is kbg difficult to grow in ohio? I was planning on seeding by back yard with it next fall since it can spread and repairs area's my dog tears up.

It depends if you want to irritate or not and if you're fine with it going dormant. I wanted green all year and don't have the money to irritate 10k square feet so tttf was my option. I also get 12 straight hours of sun (my wife does not like wasting water so kbg was a tough sell)
If you go with Kbg I would definitely use blue envy.
I did super turf 1 and was extremely happy with it. Minimal fungal pressure this year I didn't irritate a single time. I didn't overseed this year but did my backyard with it and plan on doing my other side yard next year with it.
Kbg isn't good with dog urine so that's why I opted not to use it in my back

How long did it take you to get the lines so nicely marked? Two passes?

Thanks! But I only just did a simple one pass cut. I can’t wait to use the roller!

Tree lawn? That’s a devil’s strip, sir.

😂. I ran out of soil. I did put some on maybe 4 feet wide section and the grass is just like the front. But the space where I didn’t use soil looks like you can see on the left. It sprouted some but it’s not the speed as the rest of the lawn. I think it will be ok. If not, I will just get couple bags of soil and more seed and do it in early spring.

I don’t think your lines could have gotten any straighter. Looking awesome internet stranger!
