Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Fall fertilizer application timing?

Post image

I picked up a bag of this at my local site one today. When are you guys doing your fall/early winter fertilizer application? I’m zone 5b in Iowa. Overseeded half my lawn about 6 weeks ago and the other half is established, will do that next year. Planning to apply it before a rain since I don’t have irrigation, but rain can be few and far between this time of year, looks like we may get some next weekend but not sure if that would be too soon to apply?

Optimal would be polymer coated right before complete dormancy. ~End of October for Z5

Keep in mind that PCFs introduce micro plastics into the soil.

If concerned you can use sulfur coated urea

Why in the world would you apply a slow release nitrogen source right before dormancy??

I put down a quarter pound of N via straight urea every two weeks up until the grass goes dormant/ground freezes.
