There we are thinking a controlled fast entry into the offensive zone was what we needed. Nope, turns out the ol’ dump and chase is the play. Heck yeah dude.

Matthews has looked unbelievable along the boards to start the year

-3

u/Hadokuv 5h ago

I can't believe at the hissy fit this sub and the media has thrown over sitting a rookie for a period this week. Toronto is such a bizarre hockey town.

u/outawork 4h ago

Because we lost

0

u/TantalizingTortoise 4h ago

There was a lot more to it, though

1

u/BlastingBegins 5h ago

Any other fanbase would react the same way

3

u/Shooter_McGavin92 Matthews 5h ago

McKenna hits the scoresheet tonight! Guaranteed.

u/stream_punk 6h ago

I suck at hockey stats, but is their 3rd line kicking ass or something? 2.72 xG

u/MessiahOfMetal 6h ago

Well, guys and girls, I hope it's a good game. As I told myself after the Utah game last week, I'd rather they try hard and lose last minute than not try at all.

It'll be tough without Tavares but hope he recovers and McKenna's not on the bench for too much of tonight. Predicting a close but low-scoring game, fingers crossed for the Leafs winning but don't want to jinx it.

Leafs looked okay the other game without JT and ended up beating the Avs so who knows how it will go tonight.

It was only the last game that I thought they actually sat back and looked like they were trying to coast to a win. I’d say a lot of that falls on Hiller for poor coaching. All the other games I’ve watched this year, the effort was there they were just making bad plays, lots of turnovers and miscues but they were at least trying to battle.

Can’t wait to watch Matthews play with Sissons in OT

1

u/Loric76 5h ago

You mean watch Sissons with Matthews

-1

u/ilovetrouble66 Tavares 5h ago

😂

3

u/Canadian_Wageslave 7h ago

Our first over all pick playing on the 3rd line is getting old fast…

6

u/correct_eye_is Palmateer 8h ago

Has anyone checked out the pre-game pressers? I think Cowan really wants these 2 points tonight.

4

u/Cooker1091 9h ago

50$ says McKenna gets the start

-1

u/Generallyspeaking11 9h ago

Our 2nd PP unit is sickening. Blankenburg, Reilly, Groulx, Cowan, and Roslovic

0

u/ilovetrouble66 Tavares 5h ago

Absolute nightmare crew… shows the lack of depth in forwards

0

u/ilovetrouble66 Tavares 9h ago

Better not see a Maccelli goal tonight!

1

u/VaguelyObservant 6h ago

with him not scoring in our last game, i fear the revenge game is in the script

2

u/baylaust 9h ago

It's the free bingo space. Accept destiny.

-4

u/jonoc4 Knies 10h ago

Let's go pick up league style 6 forwards this game. Might work!

7

u/Optimal_Platypus_249 11h ago

Going to the game tonight, looking for a strong bounceback performance. GLG!!!

PS Sucks JT will not be in the lineup, hopefully he heals up better than ever.

-12

u/Key_Travel9620 11h ago

So are we going to be up by 2 points just to loose this one ?

9

u/brucenicol403 11h ago

Don't fuck this up boys, and don't be dumb Hiller.

3

u/Grand-Amoeba1832 11h ago

Big win tonight. I think the team will rally around Gavin and JT and all the noise. Also when will they reveal the Hometown remix unis?

3

u/TryParticular2364 12h ago

GO! LEAFS! GO!!!!!!

1

u/Beauuuuty TROYS BOYS 12h ago

Bounce back game tonight. Rested at home and time to see how they respond for the coach.

Also interesting to see how Mckenna plays. He not only has to produce offensively but now his responsibilities defensively have reached a higher bar.

Marchenko I bet has another great game. He got the hattrick before but you can tell he felt terrible for cheating on the sabres GWG.

-13

u/vegas_lov3 12h ago

I don’t know if I want to watch this game tonight or maybe just watch Patrick Kane and Bedard.

I always have high hopes for every leafs game and then ugh

I can’t regularly subject myself to this kind of trauma hehe

3

u/RedMcMuffin Holmberg 5h ago

Hawks are even worse

6

u/SalaciousPandaPart3 TROYS BOYS 10h ago

Then don't? Not sure why you feel like you need to tell everyone this.

-1

u/eclayds 13h ago

How long does Gavin play tonight?

7

u/Loric76 12h ago

Healthy scratched for Raty

1

u/HardstButton2Button Cowan 4h ago

He's actually playing pretty decent right now against Belleville.

-1

u/VisitPier26 8h ago

makes sense to send him a message

1

u/Sensitive_Caramel856 Phaneuf 13h ago

15 minutes.

Part of the opening lineup

11

u/re-verse 13h ago

Fuck the Islanders. I mean a bit extra tonight because one of their mods tried to rip off goalpost, kind of looks like what I assume you'd get if you asked chatgpt to make you your own goalpost. Here it is in action on the Islanders sub.

I know that imitation is supposed to be the best form of flattery, but if you're going to copy what I've spent the last half year+ building, at least make it look kind of good :(

2

u/Wise-Pen8752 10h ago

Never knew Islander fans were advanced enough to use the internet to post things. They even have their own sub-reddit wow.

3

u/CallejaFairey 12h ago

This is what they've switched over to in the r/hockey sub. Oilers game on Thursday was the first thread they set it up on for public view. Didn't realize they were branching out to specific team subs too.

I like yours better in most ways. The one thing I like about their's that is different than yours is that for the plays tab, they have names listed instead of the pictures you use. Now, I'm not saying I dislike the pictures, I like it better, in a lower event game. But if these were used say in the Oilers 2nd game this season with a million goals on each side, and lots of penalties, it gets pretty crowded. Maybe a tab option at the top to just go simple and have a list of the plays as a choice along with the way it is now.

But their's uses sliders over your arrows. The sliders just do not work great on the Android app and my post wants to slide when I'm trying to just slide the single page, both up and down, and side to side. It's pretty annoying.

Overall, yours is so much nicer, and polished looking.

As I'm in here and the Oilers sub the most for GDT's, I'm glad you got these in both before this one could get in either.

2

u/re-verse 6h ago

ok click on plays, then find the "list" button - is this more what you'd like?

https://www.reddit.com/r/nhlscores/comments/1x8ccxc/game_thread_devils_430_at_caps_430_17_oct_2026/

1

u/CallejaFairey 6h ago

Oh, that's nice! Especially being able to toggle between key and all.

2

u/re-verse 6h ago

Nice, I may still tweak it a little - feel its close but not all the way there yet, but i'll make sure it keeps memory on key/all, so whatever you're last on will be what it lands on when you open up.

1

u/CallejaFairey 6h ago

You're doing a great job on all the little tweaks and adjustments based on suggestions, making it better and better. Well done.

That other widget has nothing on this one.

1

u/re-verse 6h ago

Thanks, I appreciate it greatly!

2

u/re-verse 10h ago

Sliders can get them banned too, devvit design rules say no sliding/scrolling. Interesting.

I’m away from computer right now, but I’ll look into an alternate plays tab like you mentioned.

3

u/Loric76 13h ago

Imitation is flattery when it's done well lol. That Islanders version looks like ass.

10

u/rageface363 13h ago

Really hoping we try to win instead of trying not to lose.

6

u/L0rdFalc0n1 13h ago edited 13h ago

Anyone who’s dooming now needs to chill, we all know we don’t doom til about 10 games in lol.

But that being said I sure as hell hope Hiller and the other coaches smarten the f&@k up and not roll just three lines, and they do utilize their stronger players for key times aka when with the lead you don’t let your foot off the gas, throw everything you got at em. Tonight they’re playing against a decent defensemen and goal tending in the New York Islanders.

I liked the lines that were made the last game, balanced big size to drive the net, a playmaker or someone to get the puck moving, and someone with some scoring touch. They also need to play with a bit more tenacity, I liked Raddysh’s game the last game getting into it with the Sabres players when they got too close.

I sure as hell hope Matthew’s and some of the coaches sat down and talked about the collapse after a 4-2 lead and I sure as hell hope certain d-men got dragged, they’re who cost us the game alongside Hillers recklessness. Also Bob and Stolarz need to be better.

Marchenko has quickly become one of my favorite leafs this year along with Cowboy and McKenna, loving the resurgence of Matthews and Blackenburg and Stecher have begun to grow on me!

What do yall think?

4

u/OkSheepherder5992 14h ago edited 13h ago

Like others have said I want a defensively responsible game where we win with a multiple goal lead, but more importantly I don’t want to see any galaxy brain sit back and defend the lead nonsense and I want to see a goaltending performance that instills confidence. And I want McKenna to get the ice time he deserves

-1

u/Letterkenny_Irish 12h ago

"I want a defensively responsible game"

...

"I don't want to see any sit back and defend the lead nonsense"

Pick a lane my man. The leafs don't have the players to play a defensively responsible game, and if they did, then defending a lead wouldn't look like nonsense, it would be good strategy.

What you want is 60 minutes of full send offense, because that is how they're built and that's their biggest strength. Until chayka is able to bolster the D-core, wish for nothing but a fury of non-stop offense, because that's how they're going to get regulation W's with the current lineup

1

u/SenorEquilibrado 8h ago

There is a lot of daylight between "playing defensively responsibe hockey" and the "park the bus, give up every possession, and let the other team shell you and your goalie for 20 min straight instead" horse shit we saw last game when Hiller was trying to protect a 2 goal lead.

0

u/Ok_Elevator4215 11h ago

I assume he means defensively responsible in Erik Karlsson terms. As in, be good defensively by playing in theirs and the neutral zone more than your own and don't make dumb giveaways that lead to rush chances. Leafs have shown they're capable of limiting chances for the other team by playing well offensively and not just in a full send, high risk offensive way.

6

u/tortured_fanclub 14h ago

Id like to see a game where they look defensively responsible and win 4-1. Its more than just the 6-7 blueliners. Team Defense. And to the goalies….make a save

0

u/Alternative-View-909 14h ago

I wouldn't be surprised if the crowd boos the coaches during tonight's introduction.

1

u/Wise-Pen8752 14h ago

McKenna better get some time tonight, bury this media crap.

3

u/correct_eye_is Palmateer 10h ago

Think I saw he is pp1 tonight so that should help.

2

u/L0rdFalc0n1 13h ago

Hard agree, the kids barely played and when he has he has made some magical friggin plays! The game management needs to happen when it’s necessary not just because, that’s how you blow 4-2 leads.

19

u/Drew_You_To_91 Knies 20h ago

Would love for them to grab a lead and hold it all game, don’t even let them tie it up.

6

u/BaconWrappedEnigma 15h ago

Whoa whoa whoa. You're asking for too much, bud. Lead the game AND not lose???

0

u/Mountain_Town5759 21h ago

Leafs need a bounce back win. These guys know how to score, let's have a defensive game. You can still win 1-0.

7

u/Ok_Elevator4215 16h ago

Gotta be bait.

16

u/BlastingBegins 20h ago

Planning to win 1-0 is a great way to lose

18

u/A_Moon_Shaped_Cool 21h ago

We parked the bus last game and it cost us. We need more time in the O zone

-4

u/buddachickentml 21h ago

Ya and I get it. They lost JT and McKenna wasn't playing, but there hasn't been a Leafs team in my lifetime that could "protect" a lead. Gotta have the foot on the gas for 60 minutes. To me, that includes 92

2

u/Jonesdeclectice 14h ago

This is just some nonsense you chose to fabricate in your own head. Here’s some extremely recent examples of our record when going into the 3rd period with a lead:

- 2022-23 season: we never lost a game in regulation (31-0-3 record)

  • 2024-25 season: we only lost a single game in regulation (38-1-1 record).

In the three season span of 2022-23 through 2024-25, the record when carrying a lead into the 3rd period was 104-4-7. That’s a 90.4% win% and a 93.5% pts%.

-4

u/buddachickentml 13h ago edited 13h ago

Now do the leads they had in those games, whether they scored another goal in the 3rd, and the final scores.

Edit: Feb 10 2023 Leafs led 1-0 going into the 3rd, scored 2 more. Feb 18 lead 3-1, scored 2 more. Mar 11 lead 5-3 scored 2 more. Mar 18 lead 3-2, scored 1 in the 3rd and won in so.

Small sample size because I don'thave all day, but in those games that they were leading into the 3rd, they didn't sit back and protect the lead, they kept pushing and scored more. Which is what I am saying they need to do. The opposite of what they have been doing with leads so far this season.

3

u/Jonesdeclectice 13h ago

You want to know that information for 115 different games? Are you nuts?

0

u/L0rdFalc0n1 13h ago

They need to emulate this mentality

1

u/Icy_Stranger3368 14h ago

I love when folks do what you did here!

Well done on n the stats and waiting anxiously for buddy boys reply
