Digital Looking for feedback
I’ve been experimenting with a new style recently which has been a lot of fun, but I’m wondering what I can do to push it further.
i’d really love general feedback, since I can’t really pinpoint why some of my finished pieces still feel amateurish.
(some slides are rough sketches for more context).
Harsh critics welcome, i’m really looking to improve !

There’s a really unusual dream-like quality to all of these, if you can hone that and polish up your rendering maybe they’d look even more interesting and lovely ❤️

The "amateurish" feeling you're picking up on is probably the inconsistency in rendering, not the style itself. Your style is strong. But when some parts of a piece are polished and others are left flat or sketchy, it reads as unfinished rather than intentional.
The thing about having a distinctive style is that inconsistency stands out more, not less. When everything is "standard" looking, people forgive uneven rendering because it just blends in. But with something this recognizable, every unfinished corner pulls attention.
Practical suggestion: separate your sketches from your finished work when you show people. You said some slides are rough sketches for context, but mixing them in makes the whole set feel less resolved. If you ever put together a portfolio or a page to show your work, keep the polished pieces front and center and put process work in a separate section. People seeing your art for the first time don't know which pieces are "done" and which are explorations unless you tell them.

I think it has to do with your use of color and textures. It feels a bit off though you seem to have a good understanding of creating a 'vibe' or mood. If you want to see an artist in your range who is more developed please check out 'andreadieznin' on Instagram 👍

I seriously love this style, especially in image 4. The patterns/colors/pose are a great mix. I would hang a print of this on my wall for sure!
Is it partially done? Because if not the only thing I find off is how well rendered parts are, yet others are flat.
I really like seeing people with unique styles that I haven't come across. It has some Betty boop/bratz vibes in the face but is really unique. Keep it up!

Thanks so much !! Yeah it’s definitely unfinished but seeing how people seem to like it the most i’ll definitely finish rendering it and work on making prints!

Awyeah I am for sure going to save this post and see how it goes. I want this 8D
I say for sure keep up the mix of poses and colors because it is a rare thing to nail as perfectly as you have! It looks natural when for sure her pose would hurt lol

The pieces where you don't use black as outlines seem more cohesive with your style. Maybe experiment with that a little more, as well as being more deliberate with your line work? I think your style is really cool though, definitely keep at it!

I like your style but I think it feels amateurish because some pieces look unfinished or flat.
You can probably add more depth and experiment a bit more with colours.
Also, maybe you should work your anatomy. I understand it's heavily stylized but sometimes it lacks coherence.
Finally, some of your pieces look a bit unpolished while some doesn't. I think you have to pick a side so you have visual coherence.
All that being said, I think you should experiment more with this art style because it is interesting.

Thanks a lot I agree, I sometimes am torn between wanting really clean and refined eges and other times i prefer messy or paint-like rendering. I will try to figure that out for coherence. I also do struggle a bit with anatomy. Are there any resources that helped you in particular ? I use 3d models and photo references but maybe more academic learning would help.

I'm going to be real with you, I love this. It feels like present day cubism almost? I would keep developing this style play with more color pallets but def keep it up.

Betty Boopism. I jest, but I love how much further OP has taken the aesthetics. There is also quite a bit of Edward Hopper, especially the backgrounds?
Absolutely love these!
Fourth one is very Frida Kahlo x Betty Boop, I think each is a homage to different artstyles crossed over with the comic aesthetics of Grim Natwick.

There's something cute yet eerie in your designs, I think my favorite of the collection here are images 2, 4 & 7 where you push shapes and perspective with 2 being the strongest in storytelling in my opinion.
I think maybe there are some jumps in rendering styles but since you're experimenting that's understandable! So just keep exploring and push certain elements forward. It doesn't read amateurish to me at all, but as a journey
Btw, the way you design the face did remind me a bit of ring of fire by Andreas Hykade. He takes a very different approach to character design but thought you might find it interesting (might be symbolic nsfw topics/design just fyi)

Lots of folks have not bothered to read the rules or the sticky post that literally says to read it before you post or comment and would do well to do that before posting things like "I love it" or "it reminds me of something-or-other".
