Painting Need help please
I haven’t drawn nor painted in nearly decade; I took maybe a class or two in high-school. I’ve been recently struggling and found art to be a great medium for me but I’ve always struggled turning a sketch into a painting. I would love some advice/ techniques I can use specifically for this sketch above! I’ve been browsing the subreddit and already have learned a lot. Sould I do another sketch onto the canvas or just free hand it? Thanks in advance!

I think the question you must ask first is: do I want to focus on drawing or painting first?
Edit: btw this is a great start.

Very good point, guess I have to focus more on one of them. Thinking I should maybe practice more sketching since my edge work and lighting needs some practice. I just feel so eager to hop into painting because that’s always been harder for me.

Start with drawing. Once you understand light and shadow, painting will be a lot easier. I would suggest doing light, shape, and gradient studies. The light-on-a-sphere exercise is a great one to practice with. You can totally work on both at the same time, but keep in mind it might be hard at first. If it is, don't feel discouraged; we all struggle when we're starting.
