Help / Question Does being a Lebanese Christian immigrant in Europe decrease racism against you?

I am sorry to be talking in this manner, as personally I don't judge a person based on his religion (Marrat ktir moudara2e w my colleagues l 2slem kenou a7san ma3e mn l masi7iyye so life has taught me 2nnou l adyen ma da5ala to judge someone), but we need to deal with what is happening in real life

I get offered a job in Germany, and I know that Germans are racist against Muslims based on some events in Europe (Which Lebanese Muslims have 0 involvement in it) and generally it also affected people that does not look white

Does wearing a cross there will decrease or even stop the racism aw ma 5as?
I am not brown (Asmar) bas also I don't pass as a European, I look normal Levantine (Not the typical Lebanese šŸ™‚)

Help / Question I (28M) want to convert to Christianity for my girlfriend (26F), but I can’t tell if I actually want it or if I’m being pressured. Lebanon makes this way more complicated.

I’m going to try to be honest even where it makes me look bad.

Quick context for non-Lebanese readers: there’s no civil marriage or civil family law here. Everything — marriage, divorce, custody, what religion your kids are — runs through religious courts based on your sect. Your kids legally take the father’s sect. So a mixed couple can’t just ā€œraise the kids however.ā€ It’s a legal fact tied to the dad.
I was born Shia Muslim but I’m not religious at all. She’s Christian, and she doesn’t want to lose her family by having kids born Muslim — she wants them raised fully Christian. Because of how the law works here, that basically means I’d have to convert.
Here’s my problem: I’ve actually explored Christianity before, on my own, and I liked it. I felt more comfortable in it than in Islam. I connect with the community, the values line up with how I already think, and honestly I’ve been drifting from Islam for years because of what religion has cost me personally (family stuff, friends, the war, it’s gotten between me and people I love). When I sit with it honestly, I do want it. That’s not the issue.
The issue is I’m scared of the cost. My social circle — my mom especially — will take it as a betrayal. In a society like this, converting out doesn’t read as ā€œI found my path,ā€ it reads as ā€œI rejected ours, and therefore you.ā€ I’m afraid of the resentment and of losing people.
And it’s all happening under pressure. We had a big fight where I panic-promised to convert because I didn’t want her to leave. I took it back, owned that it wasn’t fair, and now I’m trying to figure out what’s actually real vs what’s just me trying not to lose her. She’s the only person in my life I don’t feel like I have to wear a mask around, so the fear of losing her is huge.
She’s now saying she doesn’t think we should stay together — not as an ultimatum, but because she doesn’t want to get her hopes up and then get hurt if I don’t go through with it. I’ve been going back and forth on whether we should break up or take a break so I can decide ā€œwithout pressure,ā€ but I’m worried that just trades her pressure for heartbreak pressure and doesn’t actually make it clearer.
So, two questions:
How do you tell the difference between genuinely wanting something and wanting it because you’re afraid of losing someone?
Anyone (especially Lebanese) who converted sect for a relationship or for yourself — did you regret it? How did family react long-term?

TL;DR: Born Shia, non-religious, genuinely drawn to Christianity on my own, but the actual conversion is now tangled up with my girlfriend wanting our future kids raised Christian (legally requires me converting here). I think I want it — I’m mostly scared of family fallout and can’t tell how much of the ā€œwantā€ is her. Do I stay together and explore, or break up to decide clean?

Help / Question Question about alcohol consumption in sunni muslim culture

lol a stupid fucking question sorry but i am a sunni muslim and i moved away at 13 to the uk , im older now and i got in the habit of drinking with friends and stuff right, i know that no one drinks over there ( sunni muslim areas) since lots of gossip would go around when someone did when i used to live there and none of my family did. I dont drink when i visit lebanon because im scared of reactions . I obviously wont go out drinking all night and stinking of booze with my family but im asking if i were to go out with some friends who are muslim and i just have a few glasses of wine and small stuff like that would there be like a repulsive reaction and would they stop talking to me ? Like i have mentioned i drink and stuff but i got the sense that they just didnt think i was serious or that i had like a shot once and was overdramatic.

Help / Question What proportion of Lebanese would support a peace treaty like the ones Egypt and Jordan have with Israel?

There's been decades of peace between Egypt and Jordan and Israel. Neither Egypt nor Jordan seem concerned that Israel is going to invade them. Nor is Israel concerned about being invaded by them.

Would most Lebanese like to be in the same situation? Or is it popular among Lebanese to keep fighting with Israel for some reason?

Help / Question How to deal with a creep when no one wants to help

There's a guy that has a garage for motorcycles in Jal El Dib that has been causing trouble for the whole neighborhood.

He has been taking pictures and filming everyone and anyone but especially women and girls. He's always on his phone going back and forth in the street.

My aunt has a small business right next to his garage and he has tried many times to approach her since they were initially friends but they stopped being friends after he tried to sexually assault her. She tried to sue him but he's friends with her lawyer so she backed out.

When she confronted him about him taking pics of her and literally being like a stalker he started to threaten her and cut off her water and electricity. He literally stuffed rocks in the water pipes. And he did similar things to all the neighbors. All of them had issues with him at some point. They reported him to the municipality, darak, etc. but since he has connections they did nothing to him.

I recently discovered that he has taken pics of me too since I visit my aunt almost daily. He holds a grudge against my aunt and this has been going on for quite some time.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this mf? By the way he's married and has sons and his family doesn't believe us when we tell them what he's really like, in fact they threaten us too.

Help / Question Always heartbreaking to see lack of care for our beautiful city

I feel like this trash has been sitting here for years. I’ve even seen vlogs from months ago by tourists showing these ruins and this trash next to it, and finally saw it for myself. This is obviously just one example of a very common problem. I’m sure the ministry doesn’t care much and has bigger problems, but this littering (especially by our landmarks) is so embarrassing and preventable. 3ayb ya3ne. Is there anything we as ordinary citizens can do to clean these areas ourselves? Are there any NGOs that can deal with this? Or what would stop someone from picking the litter themselves?

Help / Question Can I report the threats in Lebanon without reporting the sexual assault? I'm genuinely scared.

I'm in Lebanon, and I'm trying to figure out what my options are because I genuinely don't know what to do.

The sexual assault happened about a month and a half ago. I was sexually assaulted by someone I was talking to, and I'm still struggling with what happened.

A few days before I removed him from Instagram, he kept contacting me and asking to hang out again and take me out for sushi. I kept saying no. I was honestly already completely done with him and couldn't understand the audacity of asking me to go eat sushi with him after what happened.

Eventually I removed him from my Instagram because I didn't want anything to do with him anymore.

The next day, he contacted me about it.

At first he was asking me to delete everything and basically pretend we had never met, saying that he wouldn't tell our friends anything. I asked him if he was scared of the chats I had, and he kept saying he didn't care. I told him that if he really didn't care, he wouldn't have contacted me and asked to hang out in the first place.

He then said that he only contacted me because he didn't want me to hate him and because he's "not a low person."

Then, completely out of nowhere, he started threatening me.

He demanded that I give him back all the money he had spent on me, and said that if I didn't, he would tell my friends and my mother things about me. He kept threatening me and insulting me.

I have the messages and screenshots showing the threats and the money demands.

The problem is that I'm really scared to report the sexual assault itself.

I know people outside Lebanon might say "just go to the police," but Lebanon is complicated when it comes to things like this. I'm scared of the stigma, how my family would react, what people would think of me, whether I'd be blamed, whether people would believe me, and what reporting could mean for me socially and within my family.

I'm scared of being seen differently. I'm scared of being judged. I'm scared my family will find out. I'm scared of what happens after you report something like this here, and I genuinely don't know how private the process is.

And honestly, I'm not ready to report the sexual assault right now. I'm scared.

So what I'm specifically wondering is:

Can I report the threats/extortion separately without reporting the sexual assault?

If I have screenshots of him threatening me and demanding money in exchange for not telling my friends/mother things about me, can I make a complaint about that on its own?

For anyone in Lebanon or familiar with Lebanese law:

- Can I report these threats/extortion separately?

- Does this potentially count as blackmail/extortion or threats?

- What kind of evidence should I preserve?

- Can I speak to someone confidentially first without immediately filing a complaint?

- Should I contact the ISF/cybercrime unit, or is there somewhere else I should go?

- Would reporting the threats automatically bring up the sexual assault?

- Is there a way to get legal advice/support without my family immediately being notified?

- Has anyone in Lebanon dealt with something similar and can tell me what actually happened?

I'm not trying to retaliate against him. I genuinely just want him out of my life and to be able to protect myself.

I'm especially scared because this person already crossed my boundaries once, and now he's threatening me after I cut contact.

I know I should probably do something about it, but I'm terrified of what reporting the assault could mean for me and my family.

Please be kind. I'm already dealing with the assault itself, and now I'm dealing with threats from the same person.

Help / Question Should I accept this job?

They offered me an opportunity for an admin position combining HR and accounting, which interests me. However, it requires visiting government offices and banks to follow up on paperwork. The thought of running around and waiting in queues makes me anxious.
They are waiting my answer to tell me the offer and the salary if i accepted that.
Without that part, I’d be happy to take the job.
Would you accept it or keep looking?

Help / Question Architecture/Construction experts in Lebanon: What's a realistic 2026 cost for this build (Core/Shell/Glass/MEP only)?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Ajnabi šŸ˜‚ newly married to a lebanese, looking to possibly do this project in the mountains, let us skip the cost of the land . I'm looking for a sanity check on current market rates for this specific architectural style.

The design is a modern, single-story pavilion.

I want to price out only the structure, glazing, and MEP/Solar. (Excluding the pool, garden, landscaping, and interior finishes like tiles/kitchens for now).

Here are the specs:

Total footprint: ~240 sqm.

Enclosed Interior: 160 sqm.

Attached Patio: 80 sqm open-air space covered by a large cantilevered concrete roof.

What I need priced:

1. The Structure (Concrete & Steel):

This is the biggest factor. I want exposed, board-formed architectural concrete for the primary walls and the cantilevered roof over the patio and the black steel I-beams for structural support/aesthetics.

2. The Glazing: The entire facade of the 160 sqm interior needs to be floor-to-ceiling glass.

3. MEP & Solar: Full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.(exclude anything related to the pool)

Based on the current market in Lebanon, what is a realistic budget range for just these three categories (Structure, Glazing, MEP+Solar)?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Help / Question Giving birth in Lebanon without health insurance

Healthy 37 year old mom to be, but I’m not eligible for maternity insurance.
Bellevue quoted around $3,000 for a C section, epidural, doctors and hospital stay. Our maximum budget is $8,000, but what happens if complications push the bill above that?
Has anyone given birth without insurance? Is there any way to protect ourselves from a very high bill?
